Are you posting a poll to see if your choice not to play this game is right? I know alot of ppl are looking forward to this game. So you don't want to fly around and combat crime. I don't mind. I will be there and enjoying the genre that is closest to what I enjoy reading the best. I have played mainly fantasy with some sci-fi. I enjoy both but I got into reading as a kid by reading my moms comic book collection. Mainly Spiderman and Batman.
I did not and will not vote in your poll because it does not offer viable choices. Cool is the only one close to what I would choose. I personally think it is a very interesting concept. It might or might not work. I don't want to say it is cool till after I see if the game is done right. It could be a nice change of pace or a great game. Cool concept but is more interesting than cool to me at the moment.
I hope that Cryptic will release the MMO that will keep me playing. If not guess WoW will be my next try
Hmm...a game that has little leveling grind, no player equipment or items so no kill stealing or ninja looting, and the ability to be a superhero and work in teams of over 50? What's not to look forward too?
I'm in full agreement though, if this isn't all it's cracked up to be, I know there will be WoW to fall back on

Ahh yes the doom prediction.
This game has a lot of potential it eliminates parts of other games that I have always considered unecessary. I am so glad a gaming company is not focusing on satisfying everyone, instead it is focusing on a specific type of player and making that player type happy. Planetside kind of tried that with PvP and they sort of succeeded in a way, but the game itself certainly needed modifications. I just hope Cryptic can half anticipate what the needs of the community that plays their game really are.
We'll see soon enough game release date is looming on the horizon.
Does The Human Torch, one of the original Fantastic Four, count as a Flammer?

Sorry that is like Compairing Diablo with everquest or something like that..
Just becuase its the same Genera dose not make it the same.. FF was a great game. But it is Point and click.. Pausable.. CAMPY..(in the good way) and online playing is to Kick eachothers butts!
WHile CoH will be Presetent. And No PVP at launch (or ever i hope) and not camp.. (in a good way.. hehe)
This game is going to rule all.. or suck.. I am leaning twords Rule all..
I mean really Flying to a roof top to stop a midnight sacrifice of a cult.. Very cool!

My 15 seconds of fame, but I think a lot of you would agree

I have been ANGSIOUSLY awaiting a Super Hero game; let alone a MMORPH, FOR YEARS that can keep me interested and entertained in such away other than for comedic purposes. This is just MY OPINIONS, not the masses (I think).
One reason a lot of people think superhero games suck is because of its predecessors. I remember playing Super Hero League of Hoboken about 15 or so years ago; it was solely based on comedy. Because of the corny dialog of the Golden Age of Comics, plus TV series like Batman, or old spandex movies like Capt. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />America and Spiderman gave the genre a comical feel. Throughout the years as software companies have made Super Hero Games that were caddy and superficial. Most based their product off of the POW, BAM, WOOSH feel of the genre that was prevalent at the time; who could blame them? I sure played that way when I started. But with a lot of Independent labels poking their heads out in the comic business, the software companies did not seem to give them attention. They were still influenced by the Marvel, and D.C mind set.
I was following Freedom Force for years when it had a few other names. I cannot remember the first name, its been along time now, but the second cognation of its name was Guardians (or something like that). For awhile I lost track of it, but then it reemerged as Freedom Force. I was so thrilled, but when the demo came out I was disappointed. It had the same corny dialog that had long overstayed its welcome. I could not get into the game, and never purchased the retail version because for the corny air about it.
When I was a kid, I started playing Marvel Super Heroes as soon as it came out. It was a great change of pace form all the Fantasy based Role playing games out at the time. It was so simplistic; yet, it was 100 times more fun game play. Character creation was so simple which made the process was brilliant. Who cared if you started money, you never had to buy a sword or armor, unless you wanted them, to start a campaign. You had everything you needed inside you, POWER, a god among men. As new expansions, Adv. Set and the Powers Unlimited Book, I got more immerged in the story line of my characters, rather than what glory I could reap in campaigns. This was a whole new ball game compared to the style I played in Fantasy RPGs; I cared how my character became who he was. As I grew up, and computers evolved, I wished I could play my old pen and paper heroes on the PC and see them come to life! With City of Heroes, that may be possible for the first time!!!! The Fantasy monopoly is getting alittle old as did D&D did after playing for years.
I am looking forward to playing City of Heroes, and I know there will be some POW factors in the game, i.e. role playing and the stereotypical obnoxious contacts or NPCs that will give the game some of its content. I am not saying it is all bad in my opinion, but too much has always been the genres Cloud of Death that has followed it for generations. Hopefully, City of Heroes will not fall trap to the POW factor, even though the Devs have said they tried to veer from the killer path of its predecessors.
I'm in beta and I won't vote on such moronic poll. In my opinion, this game is going to blow away the competition. There is just so much detail that went into everything in this game.
Well I do think COH will be a good fix for use comic book fans. At least until Vevindi Universal releases Marvels upcoming MMORPG in 2005. The problem I have with COH is that its a bit hollow as a game. I think COH is hoping to survive off it game play alone. I for one hope that COH game play is really THAT GOOD. Either way Im looking on games to fill my MMO schedule until TOA is released and it will be awhile lol. Probably will take on COH, DnL finish up with MEO.

Okay, if CoH is not gonna be point and click, how is it going to control?? Do I need to buy a steering wheel?
I was responding to a post by teratya. My mentioning Freedom Force was to remind others that CoH is not gonna be a entire new genre of game. You cannot create a new genre if someone else did it first. The two games have the same premise of superheroes, cusomization, and online play. CoH is just going to improve in areas that Freedom Forced lacked, ie alot more customization, MMORPG, and no camp factor. We will see how great of a game CoH will be, I'll tell you when I get the Beta.

You can't really compare an RTS with RPG elements to an MMORPG. Kind of like comparing apples and fish. Both are food but taste drasticaly different.
As for the controls, you'll see if and when you're in beta.
Maybe I should have clarified. It will create a new genre in the MMORPG realm. I have played Freedom Force, liked it, but think that CoH is the real deal. We shall see.

When I first heard about it, it soudned interesting. Now...the more I look at this game (screen shots and movies) the dumber it looks. I mean...There's gonna be like thousands of super-heroes running around the city...fighting bad guys...Flying around...Fighting more bad guys...
Where's the fun? Customization? I don't want the heart of the game to be in making the character.
I think its a great idea, sure the game wont be as good as it was first made out to be with teh new archetypes and all but still alittle restricition to maintain balance isnt bad. Plus it wont be like SWG when you see two hundred people running around wearing the same armor as you. It has a unique gameplay experience for everyone.
If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

The fun is in the storyline and the gameplay. I can't get into it much for fear of breaking the NDA but I do want to say that both are outstanding so far.
The last time I felt so giddy when first playing the game was way back in the first days of UO. Not to mention that I have a kick ass looking char.
Then again, this is just my personal opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
