Thinking of playing Horizons??

http://outofthemouth.blogspot.com/2006/09/ei-interactive-dude-we-want-to-steal.html

That's my blog. Why do I link it? Because it's a post about what exactly is going on with Horizons right now, uncensored by their over moderated boards. EI Interactive, the current owners, are billing people who have pled desperately to get their accounts canceled. The online cancelation doesn't work, and their cancelation resolution links get responded to but never carried out. They will tell you your account is canceled, then bill you anyway. In my case I had a personal phone call with the company chairperson last month (see link for my description of him...he's quite a piece of work) who refunded the charge I shouldn't have been charged last month and, supposedly, canceled my account. I got billed again this morning despite the nightmare I went through last month (again, see link)

My only goal is to get the word out about their illegal and fraudulent billing practices. Feel free to pass my link around, pass this thread around, or just verbally spread the word.

If you read the official boards at community.istaria.com/forum you will see that they leave occasional threads on about billing issues. They do this so that they can refute claims they delete threads complaining about billing. They left my thread last month, which they wrapped in a nice bow and locked after my problem was "resolved" http://community.istaria.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15036

If you notice, my name (Nayal) says "banned" beneath it. Why does it say banned? Because I posted this morning demanding to know how they managed to bill me again despite all of what occurred last month. My post was deleted and my account banned within two hours of posting.

Horizons, for all the good things in the game itself, is not nearly worth dealing with EI Interactive. Take it from me, try another game instead and save yourself the headache.

I have also written to MMORPG.com and spilled the beans on what is going on.  I hope they do a review or at least check out what we are reporting about this company.  It is a shame that there are probably people getting hooked by this even as we speak.

I've lost money because of their billing issues. I highly recommend to new players, to stay the hell away from this game.
It's such a shame, as I had a good time playing it.

The second you have billing problems like this, you contact your bank or credit card company and instruct them to accept no further charges from that company and not to honour the fraudulent charge that has just been made. As I understand it credit card companies don't immediately transfer funds so you have a window during which you can put a stop on payment. Your bank/credit card co. doesn't pay EI and you consequently don't have to pay your bank/credit card co.

Then the only way EI can get your money is to sue you which they won't do.

I can't believe they still haven't fixed that. I tried it a few times years ago and their online cancellation thing was broken then. But when I got in contact with them they quickly cancelled my subscription. Sounds like this new lot are a bunch of thugs.

Yes agreed. To all new players or just forum browers....... Please do not play the trial or download  anything fromo Horizons.   My credit card ( as with many others ) was charged for a trial account of 12.95. For 3 months I have received emails stating they are working to resolve my problem. Nothing has been done in that time and I find it interesting that in a split second you can be charged but in 3 months we are doing everything we can to reimburse your credit card.

    Do not play this!!!

OMG... thanks for letting me know... I'm canceling the trial download right now. I was about to play this game.

Wow, I was seirously considering trying the game out again but not after this and never again. This pretty much caused me to throw my game cds away. If this is how things are being run I want no part of this. Sad really, I love playing as a dragon and can't do so anywhere else. :(

when Horizons was sold to EII it became a dead product. Things were progressing slow enough as it was under Tulga now under EII they will go no further.

Horizons simply is not a good enought title to justify playing at this time anyway. A new owner should have meant a fresh perspective on development. This obviously is not the case now and the billing issues have made the situation even worse.

It can be safely said that EII are being run by incompetant crooks. Proof enough is available for such a bold statement.

Done. And I've also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/GetStarted.aspx. I'd encourage everyone with issues to do the same. The name under which I filed the complaint was "E I
Communications Corporation," which is what they bill themselves as on their webpage at
http://www.eiinteractive.com/. Be sure to search for that name when asked to by the form, so everything will point to the same source. All of the contact information necessary for the company (aside from a phone number) is located in the contacts section of EI's webpage.

10 days, 5 business days, since they fraudulently billed me for a second time. I emailed their "official" links on the first, the same day they charged me. I have received zero communication from EI, nor have I received a refund.

I called both the number left on my caller ID last month, Ed Andercheck's home phone number, and the number given to my bank as their "official" number last month which turned out to be Raymond Rask's home phone number. In both instances I was met with a personal answering machine, upon which I left a message. Neither has called me back. The number they gave to my bank as their "official" number this month is a disconnected number.

This company is deliberately continuing to bill people who have made it more than abundantly clear that EI has no such permission. Last month my hope was that they would get their act together, this month my hope is that they all go to jail. As much as I love Horizons as a game, I'd rather see it shut down than run by these people. They're crooks and liars.

with whats coming out in the next year Horizons will be nothing but a bad dream. You will be playing MMO's that offer just as much as horizons and more. EII will not be able to compete in a market that will have some new very tough competitiion.

What you posted is scary and anyone who might want to support Horizons really ought to consider against it. These guys are just way out of their league and their total inaction on the billing problem makes me now think that yes indeed they are doing this on purpose.

I can't really understand how this game with all it's problems was able to survive that long, I never really played it exept for beta, while it wasn't that bad for beeing an early beta (back then) it never really was a game I liked. Since I left this game I never actually read anything good about this game. Still it seems to be still online, kinda queer I think. Might be due to the fact that people don't watch theyr CC bills carefully and pay for a game they don't play since who knows...

One of the reasons I quite this game after my first month was the rumors of dodgy billing.  Just before my free period ended I changed all my billing and contact details to fake ones so that I couldnt be charged for the 2nd month when it rolled over :)

Seemed to work, was a few months ago now though.

Such a shame, I was really enjoying the 14day trial and was thinking of subscribing but after reading this, I don’t think so. This is one of the only games I’ve really been able to get into without being bored after 10 minutes.

I guess I got lucky as when I signed up for the trial it told me to enter a CC number and when I clicked OK, it logged me out instead. When I logged back in I was able to play without giving them anything. I’ll probably continue to play until they stop me though.

Horizons was one of the better mmo's around at release, its to bad that it ended up like this. I was actually planning on going back when tulga released the expansion.

It was a dying game anyway when i left. To many issues that they were way to slow taking care of.

Aye.   I was gonna give it another spin, it's been over a year since I'd last tried it.

    Now, I think not.

    Yes, they have billing problems.

Yes, things are frozen right now and the future is uncertain.

But I still play it, like many others. And I like it a lot. None of the games that are due to be released has all the features that I like in this game, namely (flying) dragons, true multicrafting, and the chance to buy a plot and build all the structures on that plot. Not to mention a very good and helpful community.

Horizons has been pronounced dead so often before and has outlived many of the flashy newcomers.

Its not dead -- it just smells funny

which flashy newcomer did it outlast exactly ?

You do realize the game is only still here because of a shady chapter 11 filing right ?

Horizons needed to be sold to a company that could do something with it. So whereas it lived on previous CEO's ability to lie manipulate and cheat the system that is no longer the case. I doubt EII is as savvy and sneaky as the previous CEO was. The game is closer to death now more so than it ever was before.

First payment is due to CP baker in a matter of days. The next few months for Horizons will be very important.

I enjoyed playing Horizons too. But it still doesn't change the fact that I, and other players have lost money.
It may not be currently 'dead', but illegal and fraudulent billing practices isn't going to help them either.

    Wow.

Anyone else, like me, getting to think this game's history is more interesting than the game itself?

I havn't played or subscribed since 2003 or thereabouts so I don't think I have to worry about billing. Especially since that card has long since expired. Interesting thing though is that my account still works. I still have Horizons on my hard drive, I keep moving it from computer to computer. Tried it tonight and managed to play both my old characters. I typed /played on my baby dragon and it said my char was created 994 days ago.

Still boring, just now it's boring all by myself since I didn't see one person the whole time I was in New Brommel and the surroundings. I sure do love the music though.

Seriously all, after two-years of a stunted, unfisnished game, the players should just move on already. I swear, as stand-up as the HZ playerbase is, they have to have the highest pain tolerance and most masochistic personalities I've ever known. They're like abused spouses that've been led along with pretty promises of "It'll get better someday" for WAY longer than most people would tolerate.

With the crop of interesting MMOs coming in the future, like Hero's Journey, there shouldn't be any problem with them finding better home games than this. Heck, even Ryzom would be an improvement.

I had a good time playing Horizions.  It's not near as bad as most people make it out to be.  I had fun playing my spearman, and dragon.  Great crafting system.  The client is garbage I do agree.  It lags on my system that can play Oblivion maxed out.

I had one billing issue where they double charged me one month.  I got on their IRC server, and channel, and the guy fixed it within minutes.  You guys should try their IRC network to get in direct contact with someone.  I haven't been billed since I quit playing it.  I guess I am lucky.

Great game, but not worth paying to play, and now that all these issues are going on I doubt I ever touch it again.  To bad, it was a fun game to play. Way under rated
