More Bad News for Democrats
Democrats still have visions of Speaker Pelosi and impeachment hearings in their heads...but its things like this which will provide a rude awakening for them in November:
NEW YORK (AP) - Falling gasoline prices helped brighten the mood of American shoppers in September, sending a gauge of consumer sentiment higher than analysts expected. The New York-based Conference Board said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index rose to 104.5 from a revised reading of 100.2. in August. Analysts had expected the index to rise to 103. The reading, the highest since July's 107...
Americans are happy, healthy, prosperous and confident...and not in a mood to turn government over to leftwing lunatics and the obsessional hatred of President Bush. If Democrats were still a Party which could tolerate Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman, then we GOPers would be in trouble - we'd certainly lose the House and have all sorts of trouble hanging on to the Senate. But as the Democrats are now the Party of Howard Dean and Michael Moore, I fully expect us to increase our majorities in both houses.
You see, Democrats, people are a bit war weary. I sure in heck know that I am - I pray God that this horrible war ends soon. I'd like to get back to peace and the really rather academic discussions about levels of taxation and spending. When's the last time we had a political knock-down, drag-out over school choice or sex education? Don't you miss those days? I sure do. But it is not to be, at least not right now.
We've got horrific enemies who hate us for what we are and who will keep trying to mass murder us unless we stop them. I don't want to fight, but sometimes we have to fight just to maintain ourselves in a fallen world, capable of immense cruelty.
My bet is that most Americans agree - wish the war were over, know we have to keep fighting...and thus the Democrats mantra of harping on alleged failure in the war falls on deaf ears. We don't want to hear it - tell us how you'll win the war, with specifics, and we'll start to pay attention...but if all you've got is, "Bush Lied, People Died" leftwing nonsense, then just stick it...well...you know where you can stick it.

I'm sorry, I'm not impressionable enough to stick myself into a political mold and call my self a Republican or Democrat. You need to stop watching Fox News. This country needs a change of office because Bush is running us into the shitter, which I can say because I made the mistake of voting for him. Democrats are known to fix the nation's economy, which is what we need after 8 years with Bush. There is no war in Iraq and don't call it a war, because it's simply not one. It's just a run-of-the-mill peace keeping mission, which we've had more of before. Regardless though, politicians are taking over and getting more and more cocky. I want to move to Australia before someone blows us up (if we don't get ourselves first).
On the note of the Iraq situation, it was handled poorly to begin with. Pulling out now would be a mistake and it's what a Democrat would probably do. Also, the Iraq thing just made the terrorists realize how effective they really are. They realized that it's easy to get us pissed off and into bad situations that make us look like even bigger douche bags to the rest of the world. Our country's cockyness will be our own downfall unless something changes. I love America, but I hate modern politics/Bush/Democrats/Republicans. Nowadays, there is no real difference between the corruption of Republicans and Democrats.
Knuckleheads think their vote really matters.
When someone says the war was a failure, what they mean is that it put us in the position where we were forced to keep going even though we knew it was a terrible idea. Some people, who actually have a firm grasp on how world affairs work, saw this coming, and yes, many of them were Democrats.
I can't offer you a suggestion on how to win the war because I don't think it can be won. You're talking about a force that grows more rapidly the harder you push. Over here we may think we're fighting for freedom, but over there they think we're sacking them for phat lewt, and every one of them we kill will be replaced by several more. If China rowed up to our shores, would their claim that they were fighting for freedom mean anything to you?
If the Dems actually get someone good running for once, I'll vote.
Let's take a look at their last canidates:
You got WTF
Then there's the MORON
"I invented the INTERNET!"
And most recently you got the Viet Vet Traitor
A Work in Progress.
Add Me
Yeah, because the Democrats started the war..
Actually, they approved of it initially, but now put the blame on the right.
I hate both parties, since they're nothing more than a political facade in front of the major corporations.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
I think you'd have a difficult time knowing any less what you're talking about.
Both parties had supporters, but of the two, the Democrats were more vocally opposed. That's where the whole "liberal = traitor" thing came from. They now put the blame on those specific individuals who still support the war, as there are many on the right who have switched over to their side.
Only one kind of party can be a front for a major corporation, and that's the one that's fiscally conservative. No large corporation would give its support to a party that wants bigger government regulation of the economy. Only minor corporations that might want a leg up might ever do that, and even then, only occasionally. In addition, any candidate will always be defined by his ideas, not his party. McCain and Liberman are good examples.
Go get your GED and a college diploma, then try to talk about something other than video games again. Not until then.

@ Cooktastico: Yes, Americans are cocky and for many reasons we have no right to be, but there is nothing wrong with national pride, as long as it is not TOO misguided. Will it be our downfall? I do think we will get knowcked down a couple of pegs (and maybe we need the wake-up call), but I do not think it is the end of our country. Look at all of the great national powers of the past: GB, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Spain, among others, they all were "cocky" at one point in time. Then things happen and they get knocked down a few pegs. I think it is similar to growing pains.
I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.
There is a thin line between opening a political discussion and flamebait. This thread crossed the line, clearly, so I won't even bother posting an opinion.
Ok fine, I will.
An overwhelming majority of 72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year, and more than one in four say the troops should leave immediately, a new Le Moyne College/Zogby International survey shows.
The poll, conducted in conjunction with Le Moyne College’s Center for Peace and Global Studies, showed that 29% of the respondents, serving in various branches of the armed forces, said the U.S. should leave Iraq “immediately,” while another 22% said they should leave in the next six months. Another 21% said troops should be out between six and 12 months, while 23% said they should stay “as long as they are needed.”
23% of troops in Iraq agree with you. Last I checked, a majority was 51%. 28% of American citizens agree with you, last I checked you once again needed 51. 25% of troops think we should leave now...so more troops think we should leave immediately then stay indefinately.
Keep living in your Fox News bubble and posting flamebaiting, baseless rants.

You site a poll of soldiers in a combat zone...and many of them want to leave?! That is crazy talk!!! Lets see, they are away from their families, getting shot at, bombed, its hot, many of the locals don't like them, and the ones that do support them are afraid to let the soldiers know that they are grateful to have them there. Geee I wonder why they want to leave Iraq. In other words there are more than just political reasons behind the fact they want to come home. Actually, I would be willing to bet the politics on near the bottom of the list.
Soldiers do not get to choose what conflicts they want, or don’t want to engage in. They are ordered to go somewhere and do something, then that is what they HAVE to do. They don’t have to like it.

Thank you for conveniently avoiding the American citizens' poll results.

What, we're still in Iraq?....I seem to remember the prez on an aircraft carrier a few years back with this big "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner.
Next you'll be telling me that the Bush administration has been trying harder than the Clinton administration to get Osama Bin Ladon....I'm sure Osama is shaking in his combat boots over that thought.
Luckily, Cheney's got a gun...
To the kid on the thread that wants to go to Disney World, forget that, you can see a Mickey Mouse operation in action (or is it "inaction") in Washington DC.

I did overlook those polls initially, but that was not intentional. I did just go back and look at the second site you posted. Interesting, but it looks like people are just getting tired of it. Meaning, because it did not end quickly like the first gulf war they are loosing patience. When wars drag on the populous starts question and second guess the initial reasons for going to war. This is not a new phenomenon. It is human nature.

No, the reason was because she was not hot...caused the American people to question Bill's judgment.
I'm American and happy..
But it has nothing to do with republicans or democrats..
If this what your happiness hinges on mr. OP then you are truely a sad sack of poo.
You're absolutely adorable! A majority of the senate approved the intial action in Iraq and quite few of them were DEMOCRATS! Fancy that! Don't believe me? The facts are there; at least when I took American Government in college my professor had presented us all with documents showing how a majority had approved the presiden't decision (at least half of the democratic senators, most of them republican.. the number of independents is trival). They were required to disclose the documents, btw: Go google them and then shoot yourself for being so stupid.
Ever consider corporations donating to political parties to lessen/abate restrictions? You don't see democratic leaders attacking pharmaceuticals and oil companies. The party stands for whoever lobbies the most; the whole ideology is just part of the scheme to get a majority of the votes. They do make their own salaries, ya know. People think Americans are so stupid, because of fundamentally naive people like yourself.
Yeah, unfortunately I'm in my senior year of college, so I guess I don't have a college diploma yet
I do have an associates degree though and scored in the 92nd percentile on the general GRE....
No, I'm not majoring in political science, but I am majoring in mathematics.
If you'd like to discuss the cardinality of the reals and the dubious existence of a well-ordering thereof, then I'm game... of course I'd probably make a fool out of you again.

Wow, 5,000 households, what a great sample size! It's just like the "unemployment number," which measures people collecting unemployment beni's not the number of unemployed, it's all statistical BULL SHIT! Like old blue eyes said: "Statisticians are pimps and whores..." Or was that the media, well both are apt.
How this meaningless number is made.
