For some reason sci fi never seems to cut it.

When AO came out I was so excited about it because it was a real change of setting but alas it never did it well and the rest sci fi mmorpg after it been getting worse .

One can only hope for a good sci fi mmorpg.

don't blame the suckiness of AO on sci fi oO

There are plenty of popular sci fi games.  In fact for a lot of people, having people arbitrarily running around spitting fireballs from their hands is rediculous and completely unbelievable.

I'm more of a midevil type player, but AO isn't that bad. The only problem I used to have with it was the pet pathing, but now that it's been mostly fixed it a pretty god game. Just don't try to find a group in omni entertainment, it's a ghost town since everyone is in the shadowlands image. TTyL TTFN!

LOL I'm supprised Kriminal didn't try to logicly argue why scifi is better than fantasy...

No serriously folks, I just don't think it's been done right yet, personaly I htink scifi would be excellent if done like shadowrun.  The so named Cyberpunk Genra of game.   Gives you large cites, plent of pvp optoins, and a stupid amount of missions, however I don't think this will ever happen.  Still when you get right down to it, it's really just personal prefrance.

Right now the games out there are based on medieval/magical fantasy type genres.  There haven't been many successful sci-fi MMO's out yet and none have really caught my eye that are in development.  I vote for the medieval type.

    *chuckles*

Sci-fi...it can be nice but, the main troubles is the SCIENCE they need to relly on(as opposed to magic)!  :)  Yes yes, those uber folks find new stuff and make any *future* game obsolete in a year with new science facts that need to be respected and obviously where not, since at the time, nobody knew.

Medieval...we all know the physics laws that we need to know about sword, catapults and all...and magic is plainly magic and from the start everyone agree that it is...magic!

Tolkien work dont suffer much from sciences discoveries.  Dunes, Star Trek or Star Wars on the other hand...

Medieval is a safe start...and for some reasons, we all dreams of those.  Not of Antiquity or Renaissance, just of medieval stuff...hard to explain or rationalise...Probably have a lot to do with our western history, the in fighting, great dangers, chivalry...religious fanatisms...those are all strong emotions.  You add fantasy and you complete it just fine and please folks.

Neocron is suppose to be cyberpunk. Not my definition of cyberpunk, but close enough for some people to like the game. Shadowrun is a lot of people's favorite cyberpunk game. It was a good game, but I rather see a MMOG closer to Deus Ex.

Being a big Dues Ex fan and Shadowrun fan, I have to say...

    I DON'T CARE!

Just get me one or the other :P

My hope for a good sci-fi MMOG is Fallen Earth ( http://www.fallenearth.com/ ).

Neocron had a cyberpunk feel, but that's about it. Didn't like some aspects very much. SWG got boring after six months. Only Anarchy Online stands out, in my opinion.

    Currently playing:
    * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

I think laser beams and all that stuff brings real life to MMORPG and my view of MMORPG is to make you feel like your in another world

That is why think Asheron's Call is going down hill. They started puting in presents, suits, and fishing. I think that is too much into the real world

Personaly I love Vehical games. I don't like running and killing little monsters- its just boring to me. My kinda mmorpg is: Eve-online, HostileSpace, Pirates of the Burning sea. I specialy love the fact that eve and pirates of the burning sea are OPENLY PVP- you dont have to many mrpgs that have that system. image
