Hey guys, I NEED ADVISE
last rpg i think i played on my PSX2 was xenosaga I or FFX or Zelda. Now i had played xenogears and all parts of the final fantasy series then it hit me. They were all too easy and mainstream.
2 days ago, after a while of online RPGing (not that it has any storyline) i started playing Fable.I heard it was "epic" "hard" "and a really good storyline". I played the pc version with extra content, but i finished it in 11 hours with half of the sidequests gone,a weapon i had almost half the game, all houses in game bought, blah. It was very dissapointing. And even the additional content only lasted 2 hours.
WHAT I NEED:
An offline RPG i.e. Xenogears, Zelda, Fable
THat is HARD, and LONG and involving...
I want it to last 40+ hours and to have a complex storyline basicly like xenogears and final fantasy 7.
It can also be a game like: Vandal Hearts and final fantasy tactics wich was like a strategical RPG, but still very heavily focussed on storyline.
Please give me advise if such games still excist! I wanna cry cause Aerith died, fall in love with Elly like in Xenogears, fear my enemy like in final fantasy tactics I.
Or has the genre died and is it satiated?

Yea knights of old republic 1 and 2 were nice. Sorta ok storyline. And difficulty was reasonable.
Morrowwind / oblivion however is just a MMO in a singleplayer jacket without any fun story line That is to say, compared to games like Final fantasy 3/7, xenogears, chronotrigger I
Someone actually said Fable was hard and epic? Was he missing hands or had severe ADD or something?
Balder's Gate, Fallout, Planescape. Sad I have to go back years to find one. Although it's slow now, Bioware is making some for PC. Neverwinter's Night 2 will be another to look at this month. If the story sucks just download someone's made one. Bound to get something cool eventually.
Kingdom Hearts...
Valkyrie Profile 1 (if you can find it) and 2
Suikoden Five was awesome...
Don't buy that new FF7 Dirge of Cerberus it's very stupid.
Disgaea 2 is really good you should try that out.
Neptus - FFXI - Pandemonium
Neptus - WoW - Detheroc
<--- Loves suikoden 1-4 its a great series just takes abit of time to get into
If you have an XBox, Jade Empire is pretty good. It's more action based than strategic, but it has an excellent storyline.
Note sure how you feel about games like GTA, but San Andreas had an excellent story as well. Probably has the best characters of any games I've seen in a long while.
First of all, you don't NEED help, let alone do you need expedited 'help.' You should try working out or playing a sport or something for a while if you think that you NEED a game to play. There are other things out there.
But if you want advice, I would say Oblivion for a fantasy game, The Sims 2 for a simulation/life replacement game, any one of the Grand Theft Autos for a crime based game, Battlefield 2142 for an FPS (or BF2), or one of the Warhammer games for an RTS. Good luck.

Indeed, its my favourite RPG series. I'm currently trying to collect all of them.
If you want a long RPG, give Romancing Saga a try. If you can get past the fact that you can't rotate the camera (I couldn't), you might like it. Also Unlimited Saga. Just about any game with Saga in it.
Also, Atelier Iris 1 & 2 (sp?)
I'm playing Disgaea 2 right now. Disgaea was wonderful and I like 2 so far. Note that this is an SRPG (grid-based, like Final Fantasy Tactics). With RPGs, the difficulty is what you make it. I overlevel big time, so the game usually isn't that difficult (I don't like seeing the same storyline more than once or twice).
In Disgaea 2, you unlock new character classes by leveling what you have now (they don't tell you what to do to get the new classes. You kind of just have to play with everything. Also, there is something called Item World. You can go into an item and fight inside of it to unlock special abilities and increase the power of the item. You'll understand if you play it.
Disgaea (1/2) are goofy RPGs. There is a lot of self-reference, like making fun of leveling and the path to the boss that exists in all RPGs. I really enjoy it myself, but I prefer SRPGs to all other forms.
Disgaea is an epic and now that 2 is out lots of 'veterans' have flocked to it.
The genre has not died, yet. It just isn't mainstream anymore. Even Final Fantasy is moving on to a more real-time combat system. Turn-based games are just taking a break. I have no doubt they'll stick around, to some extent (even if it's just one game every couple of years), for a long itme now.
The modern MMORPG is simply not worthy, of the acronym RPG. The straight grind and lack of atmosphere leave me with no choice. From this day forth, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and all the games like them shall be referred to as PIGCRAP. People In Guilds Constantly Raiding And Power-leveling
