I used to play UO 100 years ago.
I have noticed that alot of people are running their own shards online...not only can we D/L it for free, we can also play UO for free.
My question is, how do I (or you) make a server so that others can jion in and play. I would love to be in control of a UO shard and have a few 100 people in it.
If you have any information on the subject, please inform me.

DOH!
I just read that it is illegal to host a UO shard. MY bad, I should of did a little more research before I posted.
Sorry if I offended anyone, was truly an honest mistake.
Where did you read that?!?!
I believe that is up for debate and never proven in court...
Idunno if its illegal to run private UO servers or not but its a practise that been going on for long.
I played briefly on a free UO server in 1999 so they been around very long.
However,I know mmorpg.com frowns on this type of discussion. So I will just say-
1)do a yahoo search and you will get all you ever need to make a server.
2)it is not hard to make one just got to use the old brain a bit and voila!
3)why would you want to make one even. There are many already running and fact is many of this servers have been on for 5 yrs and still rarely hit above 500 online.I been on servers back in 2000 that i never met anyone but the owners so really making one now will probabaly be so empty might be just better to join an existing server unless you wanna play with the UO world .
It is illegal. The UO code is owned and copyrighted by EA and they do not allow 3rd party servers.
