Shadowbane

What is the combat system like?

I mean is it

[/attack]
[You hit the goblin for 10]

or is it {targeted enemy]
[checking skill level]
[you lose]

or more like Earth and Beyond stuff (if any of you ever played)

Where you target then use your weapons by pressing like the corresponding buttons stuff like that?

Or like planetside?

Where you fire and aim at them yourself

Shadowbane is like EQ or DAoC. You target, choose your attack, and the server checks your skills and tells if it was a hit and how much damage.

That is not the defining point o ShadowBane. It is the PvP. If you can handle full on PvP where anything goes, 50th lvl killing 20th lvl, etc... Then this is the game for you. Large guild wars, player owned buildings and cities, guilds detsorying other guilds cities, etc...

But, like I said earlier, it is full on PvP. So, be prepared to NEED a guild or a large group after 20th lvl (when it is possible to be attacked by other players). I don't mid a little PvP, but I am a soloist at heart, and that just is not possible in Shadowbane...

Hrm, ya, get a guild at lvl 20, and if it was like when I played, the guild and their allies were so large you couldnt attack anyone!

Well murt what would you suggest?

Here are what I've narrowed it down to (although I'm open to suggestions)

    FFXI
    Shadowbane
    Eve
    Horizons
    ---------------
By the way does anyone have an estimate on the launch of at elast beta for Ninth Domain?

Again, any suggestions for other games

If you don't mind a game without PvP, you should try FFXI.  Eve & Horizons are crap. They barely have anybody playing those games now.  FFXI has over 500,000 subscribers even though half of them are Japanese players. Still, if you can find a good LS (guild), you won't have any problems.

Sorry to tell you this, but Ninth Domain was cancelled about a month ago. So was Rubies of Evertide and Mythica. Unless by some miracle a publisher actually picked up Ninth Domain and the game has come back to life.

Here is the News from MMROG.com newsroom.

    Ninth Domain : Funding Lost
    Date : Feb 12, 2004
    Author : Tom Fletcher

In another game ending shocker to everyone here at MMORPG.com, it appears Tektonic Studios has lost funding for their MMORPG "Ninth Domain". Dan Scott of Tektonic Studios had this to say on the matter:

"If we do not have funding within a month or so the team will be pretty much gone.  They have already existed with no paycheck for six weeks.  They do continue to try and work on the game but of course they need to support their families.  We lost funding through no fault of our own, we were on time and on budget, rather the funding company ran in to a contractual problem with another loan that kept them from being able to continue to fund us."

We will be leaving Ninth Domain on our list for a while to see how everything pans out. Hopefully everything will work out in the end and Tektonic Studios will find some new funding for the game.[/quote]

Their website is still up, so who knows. Maybe they'll survive. Don't think a whole lot of people were eager for this game anyway.

As for other games, besides DAoC and maybe Anarchy Online, there aren't too many to recommend. FFXI is probably the best choice, as it's pretty much Bug FREE and has a LOT of content to keep you busy for the rest of the year.  Even hardcore players haven't completed all the content.

Also check out Lineage 2 and City of Heroes in April.

Oh, I didn't see that (bout Ninth domain)

    Anyway how bout Darkfall Online?

Does anyone have an idea for a release date on that or did that lose funding too?

If you don't like Shadowbane or EVE-Online but want some sort of PvP then there is Lineage 2. It will have an open beta at the end of March. It goes gold April 28.

During Fall of this year I expect to see "Dark and Light" and "Dragon Empires". Early next year is "DarkFall."
