There are roughly 20,000 People per server. (Not online all at once), Usually 2,000-3,000 On at a time, since FFXI was released on Japan, North America, and Europre. Diffrent time zones may mean you'll be playing with diffrent people.

can you talk to other people if you have it for xbox 360? that is through xbox live i mean..like could i talk to anyone instead of typing which i hear is a downfall for ps2 and xbox 360 players

I think you can if you're on 360, but only to other 360 users. And thats like.. 5% of the population (if that). The only time a voice chat is used is for endgame LS's while doing events. Its easer for the leaders to give orders where everyone can hear, instead of trying to type everything out.

Hmm, Hard to say. I wouldn't say its a bad time, but the population is on the decline. Key roles in a party are becomming harder to find. Maybe i'm just an elitiest becuase I've reached 75 and actually know what i'm doing, but lvling some lower lvl jobs this generation of noobs are retarded ~.~.  Since 2004 The game has changed quite a bit in many aspects. You could go two ways on this; You may have a harder time because you knew what the game was like before, or you may have an advantage because you know what you're doing. It just depends on what Job/Role you plan to take, The same one as before, or a diffrent one.

About every 2 months theres a major patch, Since late 2004 there have almost been 12 Major patches, & 2 expansions. So A LOT has changed, & Many of the jobs have been modified for better or worse.

If you have any specific questions I'll be happy to answer, but Do not! Ask:

    How is the economy?

Which server is the best server?

    Whats the best job?

Or any other retarded, opinionated questions that are nearly impossible to answer beyond an opinion.

xbox 360 is only 9.95 a month, and yes, you can communicate with others via xblive, as with any game.  you DO NOT need an xbox live gold account, the free silver account will work fine.

it only took me about an hour to download everything.

It should be 12.95 a month. I assume you started 1 week into the month. (Each day is about .425 cents). And when you first activate your account, it tells you you have 1 month free, then the billing for the next month (If you started 1 week in, It would say $9.95) After your second month (The 9.95 month), your billing will go to 12.95 where it should be.

Well To start off I guesss lol.

Subscription fee is 12.95 USD per month + 1.00 USD for any extra Content IDs

FFXI is a really great game but.. it has declined alot in my opinon, Playing from North america Release till just 2 months ago I've got sevral Lv75 jobs. Even being experienced in FFXI starting now would be a really rough time it doesnt seem like very many people still exp low level characters at all so it could be hours to days to get a party to exp.

the community (only speaking from being on the Valefor server) has gone down alot. so much drama on that server. prices of items have dramaticly gone down alot Eg (Serket ring starting off when I got mine they sold for 20 - 25 million gil now only selling at 4 million, Noble tunics (best white mage armor in the game in my opinion) selling at one point for 30 million now only going for 5-7 million.

well eco wise the game has improved but its extreamly hard to make money in the game to get what you need since you have to fight agesnt alot of people using 3rd party programs camping notorious monsters or Gil sellers monopilizing (Please excuse the bad spelling getting tired its almost 1am) all the good Notorious Monsters to make money off of.

community wise.... Valefor server is horrible.. I'd advise if your starting back up to aim for a diffrent server... Valefor is horded with gilsellers who are taking over alot of the end game stuff (not sure how bad it is on other servers) but its almost impossible to do end game fights Mainly Byakko and Kirin. One of the two items needed to spawn byakko, the Autumn Stone is almost impossible to get unless you attem to kill steal from the gilsellers. You can find this item by killing Ullikummi (Lv 85 -87) Found in the Shrine of Ru'Avitau. anyway this is almost impossible to get because of gilsellers living at the pop site 24 hours a day.

Good points though... Alot of the new content is fun CoP missions are very nice to read and get done but can be extreamly difficult. Sea, (well its what everyone calls it) is extreamly fun but requires alot of working together to get done. ToAU missions are really fun most are solo-able except for the BCNM (burning circle notorious monster) fights (which their are only 2) Chocobo raising is pretty fun but can be costly espicaly if you break your chocobos leg (lol).

I only left cause the community on that server is horrible alot of people act like they are superior than everyone else which is a huge problem in my opinion. I guess another reason I left was because its nearly impossible to make money as a mage job which is all I play. Crafting isnt much of a help because...

Clothcraft: So very expensive to skill up and very little profit unless you can craft High Quality items of Noble tunics, Vermillion cloaks, and cursed gear. (mind you even with that the ingrediants are insanly expensive to buy and harder than hell to get).

Goldsmithing: If you dont already have alot of money in game forget it you'll spend a life time trying to skill this up although in the end you can make crazy amount of gil.

Smithing: again insanely expensive to skill up but worth it in the end.

Cooking: waste of time unless you can make High Quality foods, no normal quality foods are money makers in my opinion (due to the ingrediants being very costly).

I'm not even gonna continue about crafting. its just a complete waste of time unless you have extreamly good resourses to get items to skill up with or you have heavenly patiences with it.

All in all I love the game to death even with its community faults, the game is 100X's better than WoW or any other MMO i've played. you just need ALOT of Free time to put into this game or you will get no where at all.

also this game is not solo friendly unless you play beastmaster (which you have to quest to open up)

    /end rant.

sorry for the long post but these are just my opinions and you dont have to agree with me. I just wanna warn you on how trouble-some this game is.

I stand corrected. Telaki is correct, I was a few days into it. Sorry for the mistake. But still, $12.95 is NOT a bad price to pay to play this game.
