Wondering about the quests, this isnt gonna be a grind game? or is it a hack and slash game :)

AoC won't be significantly different from WoW.  It's a grind game.

I'm not sure if it will have quest grinding for experience like WoW or if it will be primarily -sit here and kill this spawn 1000 times- like EQ.  But one way or the other it will be a grind.

Grind to max level.  Then do PvE raids for uber loot.  Occassionally take your raid loot to the PvP areas to play out the contest of <who spent the most time farming raids>.

And that's it.  The devs over there think that the word "innovation" means using different graphics.

Don't worry about Neanderthal here, hes the eternal pessimist.

the devs have promised dynamic quests, no Kill X mobs of type Y crap

Yes there will be grinding, there is grinding in every single level based game in existance I am afraid. The difference lies in whether or not the grind remains sporadic and refreshing enough to not take away from the enjoyment of the game.

If you know anything about mmorpgs, then you know that they are all grinds.

However, as Aelfinn said, they have promised us that it wont be "Kill 50 rats and come back to me" type quests.  Let us see if they can come through on that promise.

mhh...Like Aelfinn postet..they try at least to get good quest on the way....but imo there´s another big plus into this game when it comes to make sth. different than just questing for levels n xp....due to what i´ve read the crafting system inside aoc will be a great (if all goes into retail what they post now), so i think, if yer fed up hunting down the next 1000 mobs, get over yerself n fetch some wood n make a bow (for example *g*)....

    think positive :)

Ha at least we can agree on this.  I am the eternal pessimist.  But I didn't choose to be.  I don't remember the exact lines that Thulsa doom said to Conan in the movie but the general idea was that he had made Conan what he was.  Well that's what these games (and their developers) have done to me.  THEY turned me into the eternal pessimist.

So when I see new games being designed the same old way I tend to doubt the developers slick promises that even though it appears to be nearly identical to past games that THEIR game will be different and better.

Ok, but let's be real.  Even if the quests were generated randomly there would still be a certain sameness to them.  A few different types repeated over and over.  I can't even bitch about that.  That's just a limitation of technology.

I can't argue with that.  If you're going to make a grind game there is no point in pretending that it's not a grind game.  The goal would be to make the grind as enjoyable as possible.

    Neanderthal,

Sounds to me like your problem isn't with AoC in particular, but with MMORPGs on the whole.

Seems to me that you are wishing for something that doesn't exist and isn't even possible at this moment in history.

Perhaps you should wait another 50 years for an advanced virtual world that one can actually step into. Kind of like the Star Trek holodeck?

What did I say, specifically, that led you to that conclusion?

    Well sure, I wish for it...who doesn't?

In 50 years I'll either be dead or too old to give a damn.  And if I had a holodeck right now I doubt if I'd be using it to play mmorpgs.  I'd get too addicted to the Harem-Girls program I bought at some sleezy adult store and never get around to using it to play a mmorpg.

AoC is a combat-centered game and the devs said they would minimize the grinding.
But in every mmo there will be grinding to get crafting going and to make sure there will be some kind of economy.
Important is that this game will definately be not like wow.

If you consider AoG's gameplay grinding, then every single game (including non-mmorpg's) is a grind.

I hope that there are dungeon crawl type quests in this game at the very least. That should add some diversity and give the game multiple levels of immersion.(Other than the mundane outdoor quests mentioned earlier.)

Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games.
