Anyone else feel the same way?

I love this site, but i find it very hard to have a some what decent conversation on the forums. I always feel tension when i come into the forums, I always have things i want to ask or question but i never do b/c of the level of maturity from some of the members. Don't get me wrong, I am a VERY excited fan of vanguard, I have followed it for some time now and love how its turning out. That doesnt mean i should snap back at people who question the game (which tends to get some people angry), if you think so boldly of the game, have a conversation that can go somewhere, not just beating it down right when it starts JUST b/c you dont agree with what that person is saying. And yes, there are people who just love getting people angry, they are just mean =P. I just want to see more creative conversations and less tension filled ones. Just wanted to share how i feel.

Cheers

Sure other people feel like you too and never mind about the maturity of other players. Veterans are mature in the sense of reading between the lines of company announcements and are not too fond of games promising revolutionary features and when those games go retail it's just the same shit with different graphics than all the new titles in the last ten years. But they do not need to be more mature than you in social behaviour so there is no need to be tense. Just keep up the spirit and try to find some really nice game you have fun for years. This forum can help you with that.

To be more specific don't let other people's opinion spoil your anticipation of Vanguard. It is a classic title and probably the best for gamers who only know WoW so far. But we older players don't want to play everquest round three. I can't really tell you why other older players visit section Vanguard to bash the game, that's just immature behaviour.

You're not the only one who thinks or feels that way. It's hard not to notice the cutthroat atmosphere between those labeled "the haters" and "the fanboys" on any forum, but especially this one. I think your best bet for creative conversation is to find a smaller community following the game and throw yourself in the mix. Here well, despite the occasional constructive discussion, it's too often like a clusterf***.

  • Sometimes people should just say "I don't know".  Except me, I know everything.  Especially when it come to games I am not interested in, like Vanguard.

    I agree 100%

I've been a member of this site for a pretty long time and I don't post any more (with few exceptions obviously).

Too often opinions are stated as fact.   Too many kids talking out of thier asses (in my opinion!).

Look at this gestalt guy for example... member since may of this year.  Over 1000 posts.  He is not interested in Vangaurd...yet he is here... posting on Vangaurds forum.   Just keep'n his school grades low but his MMORPG.com rank high.  I think if I did the math correctly he has had to post about 6.75 times per day, every day since he has become a member.

I can understand your trepidation posting questions or thoughts on these forums.  Personally, I learned long ago in life that it is best to hit the jettison button on people who bring nothing to the table.  I'd say I get past the second or third sentence of a post in these MMO forums maybe 20% of the time.  Most of the time it is the tone that gives these people away because it is almost always an indroduction to drivel consisting of controversy, crap and confusion.  If you are a reasonable person and met someone like this in RL, you'd realize pretty quick that they were spun out or a short bus and mozzy off ASAP.  Same strategy applies to these forums.

Man am I glad I'm mature, I wouldn't want the mighty ValiumSummer to think I'm an 18 year old guy, I might get stereotyped as a 'kid who talks out of his ass'.

    (Fun Fact : I'm 18, I am a young man, not a 'kid')

I'm sorry but that was funny lol anyway Vanguard gets a lot of hate because of their new relationship with sony. And some people, like me, don't like people being misinformed on my favorite site.

I now how you feel BlackWhysper, thats a part of the reason why I can't commit 100% to this game.

I just seems there are so many angry people involved in MMOs, it seems they don't have the wonderful life they think the world owes them so they immerse themselves in an alternate personality (whether in game or as a forum member) and just vent all over anyone they feel like as there is no social ramifications.

It is a shame, but sadly its the way things are for now.

There are a couple of extra ingredients with Vanguard as far as I can tell, there are the Brad followers who were drawn to it simply because of him (scary but true), there are the ones who feel betrayed by Sony and then there are the ones who don't really care about much, they just swarm to anywhere where they have a sizable audience and randomly attack people for fun (I suspect most of these people enjoy ganking but I have no proof).

Its funny really I would love to love this game, but the vocal minority just won't let me and with so many alternatives out there now - many offering give or take many of the same features - it's just easier to go where its "nice", after all what sort of masochist seeks out conflict?

What Vanguard feature would you like to talk about?

My pet peeve is people who do posts complaining about the other posters. They don't even talk about the game. Instead, you have Vanbois posting that only people who wuv the game should speak, and you have haters posting that the Vanbois should hush. Then you have the folks who say we should all be quiet until the game comes out.  And there are the folks who delude themselves into thinking that their opinions are fact and everyone else's opinion is speculation. And so on.

Just talk about the game and stop worrying that other people might have a different opinion than you. Guaranteed some of them will.

Oh the irony.  Hold on is that that irony when you denegrate others for something you are doing yourself?  No I think that is a word that starts with H.

I have posted a lot because I am bored at work and I se no reason not to put my opinion on things onto a forum. Great assumption there.  Real solid.  And if you had read any of my posts in the developers corner you would know I am no longer in school since finishing my grad degree.

But instead of saying "hey I don't know", look what you have done.  Made silly assumptions about someone who wasn't being nasty or even condescending and was in fact making a somewhat tongue and cheek self-denegrating joke.  And have done so when there is information readily available to show you are wrong.

    Stones and glass houses.

Perhaps  I post on Vanguard forums and peruse them because it happens to brush on general MMORPG topics of which I am in fact interested in.  I simply have no interest in playing Vanguard itself.
