i mean there seem like alot of current swg players that are just really bored and waiting patientlly for another game to come along that offers them something they had pre cu.
swg already had two mass exoudousses of players from what i observed. the first just before the first combat upgrade, the second and biggest before nge. i am one of the vets that returned to play the nge out of absolute boredom. there wasn't any other game i c tried that offered the things i loved in swg...even in its broken form. i feel like half the current population, maybe more, are pre nge veterans.
reason i ask is there are some really good looking games on the horrizon, including the most anticipated by myself personally because of the similarities to pre cu swg....that would be vanguard. i wont even mention the other games that look really good due out in 07'. should sony be nervous and scrambling to get their shit together with swg before these games come out? i could easilly envision a very large chunk of current swg players, present and former that will play vanguard if it proves to be good and i have talked to many that confirm they will quit swg once and for all and devote themselves to vanguard ( something i think alot of us are waiting for, the next great game to devote to). i for one will join them, no question.
i know soe is distributing vanguard so there might be little concern to them financially but if they really care about the future of swg as they claim *cough* and financially its success matters to them then i think they would seriouslly want to start making some big decisions very quickly and make current players very very happy very quickly. if not i can easilly see swg dying for good in early spring.

When the new games come out in '07 there will be an exodus from SWG. Some due to new games coming out and some due to the fact there there will be even less people logged in. Vanguard is only one of the games that will be taking players from SWG.
I would caution them against making sweeping changes yet again though. The 2 times they "revolutionized" the game everyone left. There is a current trend on the SWG forums of the devs asking for opinions from the players. This is what killed them the first two times. Making drastic changes because of the whines of the few that post on the boards will not please the masses.
I am playing again after a loooong WoW break. If they had launched the game in it's current form, I believe they would have had a very successful, long living game. It has it's problems (traders) but it is a decent game. Many people cry about how good the game was "back in the day." I call BS. It had it's major problems or they wouldn't have changed it. However during the change, many people's hard work went out the window (shout out to all you Master CH's and those of you that unlocked).
Like I said I'm playing again and enjoying myself. The main thing I'm wishing for is players though. Doing the same quests as everyone else, yet not having anyone to do them with kinda sucks.

Not a chance, at the summits the point was that you cannot dress up a turd in a suit. Because it is still just a turd, from the animations, to the combat feel, to what they did to Jedi to what happend to crafting.
No matter what I can safely say that (even after a year) most people still know what kind of game it is.
If I was wrong then the population and reviews, gaming community's input and response would differ from what I just said.
In fact, if I was wrong then I would not be here and nor would most to oppose me in self defense. Trust me, when the president of SOE says "The NGE in itself was a mistake", and then says "I wish I never did it", I have hard time saying that it would have been good in any form.
But hey, what does he or the producers know about thier own game right?? lol

Winner of the worst MMOS goes to.... the NGE and SWG..!!! http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm?loadFeature=1034&bhcp=1
It is such a travesty what happened to SWG. What a great game it was, even though it had tons of problems. The diversity of professions/templates was incredible. The crafting system is still impressive, even though there is no market for crafted goods and many obsolete items are still in the game. The player housing/player city situation needs addressing in a HUGE way. (And by 'huge way', I mean "fire up the wrecking ball!") With the lack of a large player base, they desperately need to merge the servers. They removed things like 'creature handling' because supposedly it is "un-starwarsy". This is truly funny since George spent loads of time adding MORE creatures to the original trlogy. Etc, etc.
At this point, i think the only thing left to do is to start working a new SW-MMORGP from scratch. I hope this is being done.

Not gonna happen.......
Sony doesnt listen to anybody. They are far too proud to turn back now. They would rather watch what should be their most lucrative licensed IP go down the shitter than do what they know they should to save it.
The only thing that would draw old players back to the game (which will draw new players with them through word of mouth) is to give us back the sandbox game that it started out to be. They are going to look like even bigger idiots if another game pops up later that has the old SWG system becomes a huge success.
Changing the game from something unique into a lame attempt to copy whatever game is the current leader (WOW) might have made sense to the nimrods at SOE but to the players who know better it was lunacy. What worked for WOW wont necessarily work for every game thats why you gotta be original and make your own way.
A Star Wars game should appeal to Star Wars fans. The movies were filled with unique and colorful characters that were never segregated into one class or another, they were dynamic and thats what the game should be. I liked being able to pick and choose my skills so that I wasnt exactly like anyone else. My character was unique and now that is gone.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
SoE might be a part of the sony empire but its a different department and would only be worried about the ps3 if they have to code one of the games for it.
SoE has for a long time been second in terms of mmorpg numbers.Never first apart from in NA/europe.NCsoft has been number 1 in terms of subs for a long time. Now SoE is number 3 because blizzard is number 1 and it should worry all game companies not only SoE or NCsoft.
I assume the number 3 you are thinking of is square for FFXI but it does not have the culmilative numbers of SoE clients .EA recently got DAoC but its numbers are probably worse then SWG and EQ2 probably has more accounts then DAoC and UO combined atm.
As for 90% of the market.I honestly don't know where you got those numbers from since NCsoft has for a loong time had more subs globally then SoE to begin with. Also the market in last 2 years has drastically expanded thanks to WoW.So someone who had theortically 30% of the market 3 years ago and now 15% would still have more numbers then they did 3 years ago.
Granted though SoE and other companies need to get going to grab those bored players of WoW.EA is making a good push with WAR and vangard might help SoE .Which is why the current sad demise of SWG.You get the impression SoE rather focus on the upcoming games and EQ2 which seems to still be growing in numbers despite been 2 years old now.EQ1 gets some love still been the first child of SoE sort of.
However,SWG and planetside seems to be paying a price.I played them all about the same period when i had all access. And one thing i noticed is EQ2 is continiously getting updates ,rapid CSR response to tickets and rapid bug fixes.SWG goes months/years to address most bugs.Planetside CSR is almost non existant and like one planetside player said "it looks like when they can spare a GM from EQ1/2 then we get an answer".And it does feel like that.
With vangard and the DC comic mmorpg as well as a unknown 3rd mmorpg in the works i wonder if this will only make matters worse. Will they hire new staff to help with the extra games/customers or will they dilute it further and make SWG and planetside the red haired stepchild.
Yep... and to think some NGE fans think we are the crazy ones... lol
My favorite one out of (Almost all of them) was "LEASET FUN" --- I must say out of all the awards this was a good one and so true and nice to see a large amount of people feel the same way.

LEAST FUN:
STAR WARS GALAXIES
Star Wars has no trouble beating out the other games nominated in this field taking 37% of the votes when compared to Dark and Light (16%) and RF Online (11%). Obviously our voters are still a tad bit upset over the giant overhaul of the combat and class system last year. It is more fun than picking the fleas off a Wookie or potty-training an Ewok? Who knows, but I’m not in hurry to experience any of the three anytime soon.
MOST DESOLATE:
STAR WARS GALAXIES
Once again, the majority spoke and gave SWG another dubious award gaining 51% of the votes for this category. Coming in at second place was Dark and Light (23%) followed by Dark Age of Camelot (9%) at a distant third. In my introduction to the voting last week I suggested giving preference to game whose population had dropped rapidly rather than a game that never had the big numbers so I’m not too surprised at this outcome. Maybe by this time next year, everyone will be over it, or playing a new Star Wars game.
WORST USE OF A POPULAR IP OR LICENSE:
STAR WARS GALAXIES
Seeing a trend here? With 63% of the votes, Star Wars beat out Dungeons and Dragons Online (37%) and The Matrix Online (4%) for the worst of the MMOG conversions. I’m pretty sure that no permanent damage was done to the franchise, but for most of the voters SWG betrayed the original concept of the movie, much like the newest Trilogy did. DDO has fallen pretty far from last year when it won “Most Anticipated for 2006”. Shows how much you can trust award votes.
MOST SHAMELESS DEVELOPER:
SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT
With a staggering 77% of the votes SOE won in a blowout and the next closest was Dark and Light’s very own NP Cube (16%) and Turbine (3%). What can you say? When the gibbering hordes have spoken all you can do it stand aside and watch them play ‘Pin the Punk Card’. Keep your chin up Sony, at least the PS3 works great right?
MOST LIKELY TO BE CANCELLED IN 2007:
STAR WARS GALAXIES
Star Wars wins its fourth award tonight in a close fought battle of bargain-bin hopefuls taking 29% of the votes edging out it’s faithful runner up Dark and Light (17%) and Archlord (15%). The voters continued to vent their rage on their favorite meat puppet and SWG beat out other games on the chopping block with less than a tenth of their subscribers. I can only hope that by the time next year’s awards roll around we won’t have to look at any of the games that received votes here.
BIGGEST STINKER:
STAR WARS GALAXIES
For some reason space opera games seem to win all the awards, good or bad here. Once again, Star Wars crapped its way past the competition gaining 40% of the overall votes. In a close second Dark and Light claimed 29% followed by Dungeons and Dragons Online (10%). This year the old school Pre-CU/NGE gangstas came out in ‘force’ and sent a message. Are they just Rebel scum without a cause? Will something good ever come of this franchise? Will I ever stop causing trouble by provoking die-hard fans? Difficult to answer, these questions are...uncertain the future is.

SOE should have never listened to the players who whined in the first place.
Players cried about combat and we get the Combat Upgrade.
Players whined more and the NGE was the result.
SOE should have just stayed with their design.

What boards are you looking at?
SWG?EQ2?
You can go to EQ2 offical boards and u notice much less moaning then on CoH or WoW boards.Sure there is moaning all mmorpg have that but the degree is pretty low to what i seen on WoW boards.
Yes SWG board is filled mostly with complaints. But you know what take the clock back 2 years and it was filled with complaints. The dilemma of SWG has always been the players. Before the jedi appeared for instance the jedi forum was filled with spams "i quit if you don't bring in jedi tonight".
After that it was filled with "i quit if you don't fix the game and balance the other classes out"(one might even be mine lol)
SWG has always been plagued with weak minded developers which bent to the most cries and had no vision of their own.Does not mean all SoE games are remotely like that .
And yes this site is filled with pissed off jedis who can't go around slicing everything in their path now .No sympathy from me at all for them(/violin) and now translate this into a year long spamming to put down other SoE games which they have no knowledge of.
With that said, I simply ask you to go look on SOEs own player discussion board.

I am sorry but any MMO board you go to is filled with negative whining. You show me one companies discussion board that has all positive things on them. Please because I would love to find a community like that. But lets face it. It doesnt exsist.
Help me find these boards please
