Yep...looking at FFXI again.

While reading over MMORPG.com's new review of it, I have to ask:
How much of the game has really changed? I asked around on another
forum recently and the players stated that it hadn't changed much at
all (I stopped playing a month before Chains of Promethia came out).
I'm looking for a nice temporary MMORPG to hang out on until WAR or
something else like SUN comes out...and something seems to keep drawing
me back to FFXI for some reason.

I played it for about 3 months total and quit. The community was
excellent, but my computer sucked back then (compared to my current
computer) and I guess the gameplay was too slow for my taste. But after
playing WoW for a year and a half, and playing a little of Guild Wars
I've come to thinking again...about FFXI.
     I didn't have the
most horrible experience ever with that game, it was just a little slow
for me. But I don't know now...I think I'm a little more patient with
that in whole bit now...that whole type of gameplay. In WoW however, I
am not as patient. I'm not sure how things work out in FFXI when you
get into the end-game, but with WoW, I just couldn't get my end-game
equipment worth a dime. Sure, I got a few epics but nothing serious. It
just seemed like such a waste of time to me. But in games like FFXI
there seems like much more accomplishment involved. The community is
nicer unlike most guilds in WoW and ... I guess I dunno where I'm going
with this :p but I was just asking my fellow gamers how it really is. I want to know everything! :p ...and for the record, I only got to level 24 on a warrior/thief. So I'm not insanely experienced.

Thank you muchly! image

You know, it's funny, because I'm the same way. I quit about the same time as you did, though I started playing a few months earlier. I had a lvl 43 Rdm, and tons of other classes leveled decently high. But I keep thinking about the game, wondering what the full storyline would be like with the missions, which was my favorite part of the game.

This doesn't really answer your question though. I just know how you feel. The only things I know that have changed is that there have been some job adjustments so game play is more even, the world has gotten even bigger thanks to 2 new expansions since you quit, you can raise your own chocobo now (something I loved from FFVII!), and they keep booting loot and gil sellers from the game on a fairly routine basis which I've heard has helped keep in game prices down a bit. Last November I took a peak back into the game and prices were insane, but over the past 3 months they've booted like 2000 people or so that were using illegal 3rd party software.

I know I'm going to purchase the new pack when it comes out Nov. 8th or so, and I've got 3 or 4 friends that are going to join me.

One word of caution though: this game does eat up a lot of time with it's leveling. So if you're looking for a game that you can get really far into in a short amount of time, it isn't a good choice. It's a great game, but you can't expect to get really far in a few months. If you've got friends willing to come into the world with you, that will help since you won't have to sit for awhile looking for a group. And soloing isn't really an option past level 10 (lower for some classes, higher for other).

Someone else will surely have more info for you though. If you decide to join up again, I hope you have fun. image

Lol thanks :) that helps a little. I'm actually looking into writing my own novel soon (sci-fi/fantasy), and I'm trying to cut back on how much I game. But I used to have a few friends in FFXI who had busy lives, but still managed to make decent progress in the game.
I hear that the game is faster now? What does that mean? Servers, or actual gameplay?

I started playing Final Fantasy on Sep 04 and leave it on Jan 05!!

But i'm comming back on November with the new bundel. One of the reasons why i have left the game is because of the Gilseller and GilBuyer!!!I wss unable the catch the price with my Ranger/Nin at level 30. The price the Hunter knife(not sure about the name) was 8000K each (dual wield). You may tell me that i dont really need them...maybe but my Elvean does!Like leaping Boot its starting price was about 15k was when i left it reach 500k+! Always funny when you see a lvl 10 War with no sub job (im major cases that mean is new) and he/she wherring lepping boots and telling me he farmed a lot 4 them!!!! Yhea right. And every dude here who's playing FFXI know that when you got in higher level you need the "Damd to expensive" equipments to get fast invite in a party (is even worst when your Elvean Ranger miss all the time cause you did not have the +10 range accuracy shit)

Another thing ive heard people complain about is the "Dont try new job/sub that nobody use" They are kind of right on this one...look a lot of people is playing this game for more that 3 years. They know what work and dont.

The major reason why i'm comming back is that i tried a lot of MMORPG and i was unable to find what i have like so much about FFIX (you have to make party to advance) In WoW im level23 and i never made a party even if you yell 4 help everybody was telling me that i can do it all by my self!!!!!%#$%@&; i know i can solo it stupido....Is a MMOrpg i bought it cause i want to play with others! Maybe at lvl60 is more party Quest but i dont like the HUD press button on the screen to attack and the cartoon like grafick! and i tried GW i like it...but is not a real MMORPG that king of game got another name that i dont remember.

    So i got some question

1)Does the 4000+bann account have done something?

2)Does some Server have more US ppl on it?

3)Do the game will live long enough for me to make a trip back in Vanadiel?

4)Does being a dragoon still suck?

5)The new job BLU/COR/PUT are nice?

6)Does anyone haved tried the chocobo new..breeding thing yet?does it change ur Chocobo a lot?

7)Do SE have close some server cause ppl leave the game to balance server?

thx to all who took time to read/answer my topic

There is two thing in life are infinite man stupidity and the universe and im still not sure about the first one.

Chaotic16, If you have any specific questions I can answer them, but asking somthing broad like "Whats changed?" I'm not going to bother answering, Because 1 It would take me hours to list everything when you could visit the FFXI Website and read through the update notes yourself. But again, Specific questions I can answer.

Your whole top part didn't need to be answered, But it is very possible for a lvl 10 Warrior to have Leaping boots (Back when you played), Now Leaping have been moved to a BCNM and a Rare/ex Version calld Bounding Boots drops of Leaping Lizzie now, I've seen a couple New players with them that just got lucky while Leveling. So camping & even Killing LL is possible at lvl 10.

    1) It always does somthing.

    2) No.

    3) Take an English Class please, But from what I can decrypt Yes it will.

    4) Call Wyvern was moved to a 20 minute ability and they got a new 2 hour. But aside from that its about the same. DRG learnt they can solo pretty well though.

    5) Blue Mage is a powerful damage dealer, but Leaning blu magic is a bitch, Cor is like a Bard, that can buff the same things and some different things, A support DD or Puller. And Puppetmaster hasn't really found anything its best at, Its like Druid in WoW that It can do multipul jobs, But unlike WoW Pup can only do them at maybe 30% effectivly.

    6) Again, Take an english Class. It takes 1 month to raise a chocobo (Real life time), You must check on it everyday, take it on walks, do diffrent things with it as it grows and it will have its own attributes. Most all chocobo's that have been raised are slower than rented chocbo's.

    7) No.

In conclusion, I strongly recommend you either Calm down or Take a Basic English Writting class.

Okay...is the community any better than WoW's community? :)

Yes definately.  I haven't played in a while but I made so many friends while playing FFXI that were mature and great people.  There are gonna be the linkshells full of people you would find in WoW, but FFXI has a way of getting alot of mature people together.  I miss FFXI because of the people and the huge amount of content, but I don't have the time.  I'd say i would want to play at least 25 hours a week to enjoy this game, but that reveals the biggest problem in the game and that is finding people to play with that match how often you play.  Go on vaca for a week and all your friends can outlevel you.

Yeah...well, I don't think it'd be insanely hard to find a group as a white mage...which is in fact, what I plan on making.

Do you think it would be hard at all to maintain balance in your life and play this game?

It just depends on the person, You'll need a good 2-3 hours playtime at a time to accomplish much, Late evening to nighttime is when most people are on, Since many people Have work/school during the day. There are lots of people who're married & work full time and still find time to play FFXI.

Um... If you could find the Ps2 Version & Harddrive go for it. They kinda stopped making the Harddrives >.> So you may have to find one on the internet unless you already happen to have one.

I have looked at going back many many times.  When I quit I had a 53 Paladin, but even for me I sat around and waited for a group for over an hour, closer to 2 sometimes.  I was always broke as hell and crafting was such a pain, but I have to admit, I really enjoyed my time on the game until the waiting just got to be too much for me.  I keep getting their newsletter and every time I do I go on their site and look at everything.  It's so tempting, but I have to remember, if i did go back, I doubt I'd ever have as much fun as the first run.  That tends to be the case with any mmo I go back to; my memories are grander than my new experience.

More or Less PLD's still get shafted. But its a bit better for them now, 35 they get a 1mp/3sec Auto-Refresh (The same as Smn get) And at lvl 50 they can get a Parade Gorget . Your post was too nuteral to add anything else... Do you have any questions? >.> Was there somthing you wanted to add that remotely followed the theme of this thread that you forgot to metion?

Negatory chief, just empathizing with the original poster's feelings on retro-mmo/ffxi-ing.  I relate to his experiences.

Im playing this game since January 2003. I quit 4 times for short periods of time, i was a Hume male Thf75, but my account expired and then i get a Mithra Whm75. Now im quiting for PSU, but i know if nothig happens i will return to the game, cause of my memories.
I dont recommend this game to any new players cause is hard to level all and, if u havent any friends this will kill u cause wait 5-6 hours for a low level party is hard.
But ppl who is playing it long time ago knows what im saying. Is like a song that u cant forget & sometimes is like a drug.
But i love this game and i hate this game, and i always will play it and will quit it.

  • Hey everyone, what's up with sites like oloot.com being able to sell accounts, currency, and powerleveling.
I thought that was against the EULA; So why are they able to do this?

  • JovennJovenn Member Posts: 18
The do it inspit of the EULA, Squareenix banned over 1400 accounts recently for selling gil/using 3rd party programs, but they still do it because the $$ is so good.  Untill there is some law that they can officaly charge them under, they will always break the user agreements.

I'm coming back too... Was a 75PLD on Ramuh and my char got banned because I let my friend use my char while I was out of town and he camped with some gilsellers one day at Simurgh cuz his HNMLS was taking the day off.. I've tried WoW and other games but none can fill that void that this game filled.
