Will it be pay to play ?

Yes it will be pay to play, it will be about 12.99 a month just as almost all are.

is there a limit to the lvl of your character  ?

Well so far i cant answer this for sure, but as far back as when their was Fame it was said you could only go to lvl 100. But things have changed since then so I dont know.

the way i understand it is its all the one city how is it going to be run online as in how is it run on a global scale ?

Well in real life it is about 18 square miles, which is really big. Since manhattan is about 22 square miles.

What will be the most powerful powers a hero can have and will there be expasion packs to let people go super villains ?

Yes there will be an expansion pack allowing play as a villian. As for the other one every power is balanced, there is no "most powerful" power.

    ...Hope that helps

It will require a monthly fee.  Pretty much all MMORPGs do.  They charge monthly fees do to the amount of support required to run an MMORPG.  Many MMORPGs have people in game to settel player disputes and help they if they encounter a bug that was missed.  They also have in game events, special 1 time only things, that are run by employees.

They haven't said what the lvl limit will be but there will be one.  With out a lvl limit after a certain lvl a hero would be able to single handedly take out any villon in the game.  Some of the villains are meant to require large groups to take them down, and be imposible for a single hero.  Comic book perspective:  with no lvl limit the Punisher would be able to kill Dr. Doom and Galactus eventualy.

The Game world will consist of just one city, but there will be several servers.  The city and NPCs will be the same on each server, but the players will be different.  Comic book perspective: each server is an alternate reality

The powers are supposed to be balanced, so no one power is more powerfull than any other power.

The company hinted that they may allow players to make villains in an expansion but they are still deciding

It was going to be capped at lvl 50, but was changed. I've read that they plan on bringing it back up to 50 around the first Expan pack. But they have suprised us lately with adding tails to release so who knows?

Yeah i know, not a huge fan of tails, capes, trenchcoats, etc but still knowing that they are working on it is still good to know. And atleast they admit they are leaving things from out release were as SWG  said they had many things they did not. Hehe...but atleast SWG is getting back on their feet, well not as much as back on their feet as much as it is on their feet. I'm sure that when the x-pack for SWG comes out they'll be doin okay....but i'll save that for another forum. Where as here i can say. CoH rocks!

It's going to be around $15 a month, That includes a comic of CoH Sent to your house every month with current/upcomming events (as long as you are subscribed), you might even be seen in it =)  tho I have no idea how they pick who's in it, and all that nonsense. It was going to be only a 7-day trial, but it seems they have followed the norm and changed it to 30 days when you buy COH.

Yes the price monthly is 15.00 dollars.

is there a limit to the level of your character?

Yes. Some people seem to be saying 40 but i read or heard somewhere that it was 70.  But either way the developers said that they had a plan to give player that maxed out new powers. so don't worry.

    I desperately want capes….<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Capes make a man.. Like,  a Superman! Or a Bat man, or a Captain Marvel or.. well.. I NEED capes..

I almost did not pre-order because of the lack of capes..

And we have guns, and “cross” bows.. but no “bows” ? What’s that about? Archer characters are almost a template in and of themselves (blaster- I know- but almost) Green arrow, Speedy/Arsenal, Arrowetta, Hawkeye and the Bowman fer’ gosh sakes!

Also, I REALY want to chuck large object around, cars and such. Ripping up light poles and chunks of the street in a fight would be ultra- Cool. Slamming a guy into a building an leaving a spider web crack OOOooo  (inspirations?) I herd that this will not be (because the resulting violence in a city of heroes would leave the place wrecked in no time) but I say, “hey, it’s a comic book!” lets have the technology left behind by the aliens be adapted by some NPC scientist who is able to make the city “regenerate” from minor damage.. So once a building is cracked in a fight, its back to new in a minute or so..  Sound keen?

Oh, and get me my cape.. image

    Check me out

After buying CoH, you have to pay $15.00 a month to play(after the free 30 days of course), character limit im not sure about. Capes are said to be put in at a later time. I'm not sure about crossbow, I think it might of been a typo for crossblow. but im not sure. Don't quote me on it! they didnt add throwing cars, running up buildings and such yet, I think they are concerned on What do we need right now to release, and what can we add later. An ability lets you pick up a chunk of rock out of the ground and throw it at a villian tho. and as controller of Fire you can summon Fire imps to attack all villians around you. thats what im looking forward to.

I think they left out wing because flight isn't a starting power.  On the official site it's shown in the Power Pool and those powers can't be taken for a few lvls.

Actualy i believe the reasony behind that is more of a graphical concern. Because we all know we earn new costumes parts and etc as we head through the game. So they could easily throw in wings later, as soon as they get the wing funk down.

Any one have a good answer to why flight is not a basic starting power? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

If this was the Golden age of comics, I guess I could see it. (Super man used to leap tall buildings.. Some would say in a single bound... But it was jumping, not flight)

But post silver age, flying is like running down to the corner 7-11. No big deal. (Sort of makes Angel loo

Still, flying is a pretty basic power. Not to Offensive or defensive from what I have seen. (Flyers tend to be big floating targets for a blaster from what I have seen)

So Why hold flying over the heads of the player who want it? To make people subscribe longer to play more? any one?

I think you kinda answered your own question Voodoo.  Flying is neither defensive or offensive and realy wouldn't make a strong foundation for a character.  Taking flight at the start would leave the character a bit underpowered compared to the other heros.  You can still base a character around the flight ability, you just need to be creative.  For example I want to make a super fast character like Quicksilver or the Flash but speed is a Power Pool ability.  The solution I came up with, make him a Srapper with Martial Arts as his primary power and Super Reflexes as his secondry, adding speed when I have access to the Power Pool.  Super Reflexes was chosen to represent the first manifestations of his super-human speed.

  • voodooDollyvoodooDolly Member Posts: 34

I guess what Im saying from a Mechanics point, is why not let the characters start with one primary, one secondary and one power pool ability (even a modified power pool for first level with that contains powers that have no heavy attack/defense ability) Just seams that it would make more Silver age level characters to start...

...Then again, I see a merit to starting out "golden age" and advancing (as Long as I can skip comics in the late 80's Ugg.. Darkness and blood and Anti heros and a guns and Blah..)

I guess I am of two 'Dollys on this topic...  screwit, Im just gonna play it and have fun :)

I promise I dont mean to start some verbal fight between Voodoo and me in some kinda "I like this and you like that so you suck," but whats wrong with anti heroes?  I mean from a story sense it advances plots along by having a character who might not really feel like doing good things all the time, but isnt really a villain either.  I mean if you really look at it, characters like Wolverine, Deadpool, and even Batman are some kinds of anti hero type.  When Batman was first released all he did was kill anyone who harmed innocents anyway.  I'm sure there are a lot more heroes that fit the mold, but I havent exactly read comics in a while and I've lost most of my memory on the subject.  Basically what I'm saying is you can only do so much with all Goody goody types when it comes to story.  And as for guns...Superman never had any problems going against someone with a gun...lol.

  • voodooDollyvoodooDolly Member Posts: 34

    Hey man, No problems!

     <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

We can have differing opinions; I don’t hold it against ya :)

I don’t think I made myself clear though.. Wolverine is fine, so is Early Bats (Actually, he never killed anyone, just scared the crap out of them- Bats has always had a strict no kill policy… and he started with purple gloves… strange…) even the punisher is Ok..

(Have to admit, as a one shot, I love the Ennis stuff)

I think I was thinking more of everything Rob Lifeld stood for. When he was the controlling interest in Cable (overly big cyborg arms and guns) not that he even did it to much… just that the 11billion off shoot comics that started up (mostly from Chaos comics) had huge crazy looking guys that replaced a personality with a urge to kill everything that moves. Dialog? Bha, Kill it. Sex appeal? What’s sexier then killn’?

To me, that period in the 80’s is anathema to what a comic book is. Or at least, detrimental to what a hero is.

That sort of mentality is what I see in PVP. If some one wanted to play the way-cool Honorable martial artist, that has to spar with some one to know them- or the Comic book “first they fight – then they respect each other!” well, then I would be fine with it..

But in an online community, that has to be something earned for the enjoyment of others. Not freely given. (Immature PVP can kill the fun of a good game as surely as immature spamming)

Or, at least that’s what I think now.. In any discussion I am open to accept a new viewpoint I may not have previously seen.

    That’s just me :)

Oh yeah I totally agree with you in that case.  I thought Cable was cool enough for a single character type, but then it did get rediculous with the offshoots.  And maybe I'm mistaken about the Batman thing, I just remember seeing a comic frame in Wizard once where it was early Batman and he had leaped off a building to land on a criminal's head snapping his neck...so I guess TECHNICALLY he might not have killed him...lol.  And actually the type of hero you describe is sort of the way I want to play my hero...minus the martial artsish stuff.  Sort of the loner who knows he has to team up with others when something big is going down.  Anyway...I guess our opinions werent so different after all.

I was wondering....since I have to pay 15.00 dollars a onth to play this game i just want to know if its worth it? I played the Sims and I was so trashy and dissappointing that I thought all MMORPG's were like this...thenn I saw City of Heros and Final Fantasy XI and I as in awe and I want to play MMORPG's again...but I want it to be worth it!

    image

So, is it! Is it worth 15.00 dollars a month?

    Yeah, yeah...

Think about this. If you play the game 15 hrs a month, you are only paying a dollar an hour to play. If you play 30 hrs a months, you are paying 50 cents an hr to play. If you look at it from that standpoint, it is worth it. I keep hearing people complain about the price. The monthly cost is not that high really. It is to help pay for server maintence mainly due to the amount of abuse those servers have to take daily due to the high level of traffic. I think its not a bad deal. Also, if you dont like the game, discontinue your account. It is just like buying any computer game then finding out you dont like it. You just stop playing it.
