Asherons call is not a class based system (there are pre set TEMPLATES and you can make a custom TEMPLATE as well)
-when you start out creating a character you can choose either to make your own or use one of the pre sets-
-pre sets are basically an already done template which will have the stats and skills the devs thought would benifet that template most-
Choosing custom lets you change your starting stats and skills (You are limited in skill and stat points though)
-your stats-
Str 10-100
End 10-100
Coord 10-100
Quick 10-100
Focus 10-100
Self 10-100
(Health) -based on your stats chosen
(Stamina) -based on your stats chosen
(mana) -based on your stats chosen
-they have sliders that you can adjust how much of each stat you want (each caps at 100 base)-
as you move the sliders other stats will go down and up (because you have a limit to your stat points), I believe you can have 3 100 stats and all left over would be 10
======
-your skills-
You have Speciliazed / Trained / Untrained for skills -again your limited in your skill points to use as well and each skill costs points to go from untrained to trained and trained to specialized
-untrained skills you cant use
-you specialize your main use skills (a weapon skill / defense skill) -it costs alot of points to spec skills, so you wont have many specced (later you can add more, but I believe its capped to a certain number of specced skills)
==Youll get more skill points to train more skills later as you level==
-but as you level it takes more levels to get points-
(If someone wants to clarify, please do .. i havent played since the Garlaen/Martine patches, so I dont remember the level intervals)
-also needed to be clarrified is the formulas for skill growth (Some are based on stat + stat / number)
Okay lets say youve made your character now and portaled into the Land of Dereth
-as you kill monsters you get xp
-you use xp to raise your stats and your skills (You put xp into them manually) -each point you raise the stat buy uses up your xp-
-as your stats get higher you need more and more xp to keep adding to that stat and skill-
-your level is nothing more than a visuall way for people to see that you have higher stats and skills (as well levels are required to enter some portals and do some quests)-
-your stats and skills do not change as you level, you must put xp into them to raise them-
==If anyone wants to cover any other issues with the system, please feel free==
Rubycat hit it pretty much right on the money. There are no "classes" in AC1. You can build your character over time to be pretty much anything you want until you run out of skill points. For example:
You could be a pure 4-school mage, a hybrid 3-school mage/archer, a hybrid 3-school mage/melee, pure melee, pure archer, etc. etc. etc. I would literally be here hours typing up all the possible combos.
The best part about the game in this regard in my opinion is the wearing of armor. With only a few exceptions for special armor types like Covenant Armor, nothing limits the amount of armor you can wear except your strength.
