I thought that Admin changed the game ratings so that you had to be like an advanced member to rate the games?  Not sure about this, though.....

Let them be, people fear that which thier minds can not comprehend. EQ2 will be a much better place without them and without those who listen to them...

I don't think there is much hype over this game because people probably just don't feel like dealing with EQ anymore.  EQ2 will probably be amazing, but people will have to learn that after the release.

I think people are also still confused on how they are going to keep EQ2 running while EQ is still going strong, and how they are going to relate with eachother, character wise.  Most people don't like starting over.

I think its going to be great to start over... I cant wait for the newness and the adventure of it...

Well if those people would just do a little research they would know that EQ2 has its own dev team (just like every other SOE game) which means they need not worry about keeping multiple games running strong. They would also know that EQ2 has a Heritage system that will give people the option to tie thier EQ2 character to one of thier EQ1 characters (Ancestry and such) carrying on thier family name and recieve Hierlooms.

image I honestly don't think any current EQ player is turning down EQ2. Its mainly the other people that tried EQ once and couldn't take the difficulty or couldnt figure out the UI so moved on to one of the other less intelligent games to perpetually talk smack about SOE and EQ. Doesn't phase me one bit, EQ2 IS the next game and will be rivaled ONLY by EQ1. Anyone who disagrees with me on this is just blind to the facts and doesn't deserve to play EQ2.

I just can't wait to play EQ2... I played EQ 1 for about 4 years and i think it'll rock! I wish EQ 2 would come out faster but it is better not to rush things so we have a quality game...

I expect that eveyone who has played EQ and hated it has given EQ2 a poor rating. It's same lame game.

I joined this website mainly to vote my "hype" of this game, i gave it a full 10 image I couldnt believe it had only 7.5 rating (probably FFXI fans giving it a rating of 0).

Being an ex Age of Empires2 fan, played it ever since it was released for 4 years, there was never a sequal, player populations fell.

I only knew EQ existed 6 months ago when i was reading news of online gaming for the Playstation2, the game EQOA. It read really good, i didnt know EQ was so huge. So i got the game (EQOA) and i just got hooked on it, was and still well addicted. I didnt get PC EQ because i figured well theres going to be alot of high lvled players.

Then a best buddy, (we both now experts, or atleast most experienced players of EQOA) he has been playing EQ for years, mentioned to me of EQ2. Considering the European/Australian EQOA servers are under populated, EQ2 seemed the perfect answer as the entire world can play together, also a much much bigger game.

I stated in my hype-meter message box that im a "true EverQuest fan", reason being is that i just love this game, i dont play any other game, and all other games just dont inspire me one bit.

So there you go, an EQOA fan recruited to EQ2 (soon) image

Yeah. Im hearing the same stuff man...all these people shutting down EQ2. I think it looks great. Screenshots cant tell everything, but theyve already blown me out of my socks.

The water in some of the shots is beyond imagination! Anyway, i just hope its a good game, thats all i can say.

Ok 4 year vet of EQ1 here - First 65 shaman on the nameless, 65 wiz, 65 Shadowknight.

I think the graphics for this game and the total immersion will be IN-frigging-CREDIBLE.

I also hear that they are going to a  "skill-per-use" system. Pick up and axe, get better at axe. Pick up a sword, get better at sword....that I LOVE.

But they are DROPPING THE BALL on the class structure. We are going to get the same cookie cutter classes that we had before - NOT a template system where you can be an individual.  I was hoping that there are skills and spells inside your archetype, class and subclass that you could pick from to makea UNIQUE character, but it doesnt look that way. Every brawler will be the same...every assassin with be the same.

    ....sigh.

I will play this game...and it will be one of the tops...but to make it out to be perfect is just wrong.

  • ZakorZakor Member UncommonPosts: 214

I am happy they will stick with the same class system. I played FFXI since it's release and i closed my account a week ago. The class system is really not nice.

They say to you : Make your OWN and UNIQUE class but that doesn't work well since there is always 1 or 2 sub jobs that work better than the others and there is sub jobs u don't want to consider since they totally usless. People just use the same sub jobs...etc.. So everyone always come out being NOT unique!

For exemple :  You'll see Paladin/Warrior but if the paladin take ANY other sub job no pt's will invite the Paladin since he can't "Provoke" or in EQ term "Taunt". etc.. So all the Paladins goes for Paladin/Warrior...image

I personally don't think EQ2 is being hated. I myself along with other people hate SoE becuase of their lack of customer support. I have played almost every SoE MMORPG made and have sworn never to play one again because that company doesn't care about their customers....all of their games have a very low amount of GMs available now and being MMORPG's they all have their problems (all MMORPGS not just SoE) and to not even have GM's around frequently is pretty lame.

I think the game looks great and sounds great but after giving 3 SoE games a try, EQ, SWG and Planetside and seeing the same cruddy customer service, I along with a bunch of other long time SoE players are not giving EQ 2 our money. We all really hope that one of the many other MMORPG coming up fits the bill and has customer service to boot. SoE just thinks they are the MMORPG gods and guess what, many big companies have gotten wake up calls with that attitude and I sure hope SoE does. They made some revolutionary games and they need to realize they aren't the only ones in the market anymore.

Whatever, EQ cust support was awesome to me, never failed me once.  Maybe its just people who act like asses who get dissed.

We never act like asses....it is just a matter of their GMs not being in game for a week at a time. Having a character stuck in a wall for near a week because no GM's are even in the game to help can be pretty darn aggravating.

I can't see how anyone is going to say that EQ2 sucks before they have even played the game.  To be honest I have played EQ and I really hated the game, but EQ2 looks very different. It looks and sounds like a much better game.  But come on people, you have only seen screenshots of the game so far. Don't bash it and say its a bad game becauseyou don't like EQ. If you do, you could end up missing out on an incredible game. Sure, you can read about the game and decide that you don't like some of the ideas the company is using, but atleast sign up for beta and see if some of the things work better than you thought they might have. If you like some parts in beta, the finished product is bound to be even better.

EQ is like a love/hate relationship, I don't understand the "I have been playing EQ for 4 years and I hate it" concept, there are problems in every MMORPG, but I still believe that EQ is the finest on market so far.

This is an appeal to those old-timers; please don't scare off new potential members with small details, remember the good times. EQ is great fun and can be played for years on end, and it offers complex and dynamic game play not seen in any MMORPG on the market today, even though the game is 5 years old.

A game that old is bound to have issues, but ppl still return after having tried every MMOPRG out at present time, they simply miss so many aspect that they can't find in any other games. I can't wait till EQII hits the market, its going to be great, make new friends, explore, hack and slash, quests, guilds the list is endless.

First point of action; gonna check if blackburrow still exists image oh memories, remember the first time I jumped in the hole with a friend, totally clueless as to what was in store for us, took us all day to get our corpses back image

And for the one being stuck in the wall for a week, didn't you know anyone who could port you out? Have someone kill you and then summon your corpse? In the 4 years I have played I have never had anything to complain about, I think SoE is doing a fine job. image

Just because THIS site doesn't have a ton of EQII love and discussion doesnt mean it doesnt exist.. Try the official EQII forums or the forums at eqii.com ^__^

hell.. even our GUILD forums are being over-run by posts... *grumbles about that*

i played EQ for a number fo years and i got hooked on it :P i don't hate it just the thing is it needds a overhaul butthen agian its still good like it is most of the people i played with on EQ say they will not goto EQ2 due to the fact they don't want to give up all their items they worked hard for

  • solutionsolution Member Posts: 33

I Never played EQ, becuase i didn't want to have to deal with being such a new player, but i played eqoa which wasn't a horrible game i liked it, and was going to wait for EQ2 so i could start new, but then i heard of WoW and i have always loved there games. So i plan on heading there, but the customer support for EQOA was horrible, i had logging on problems for around 6 months along witth proably 200 other people and they did nothing.

i called there help service ones, was put on hold for 20 mins and then they just told me to call some where else, and i get a phone bill from it for 30 dollars. game looks, great customer serives sucks and not enough gm's.

It seems like many people rate EQ2 bad because they didn't like EQ1 or SoE rather then anything to do with what EQ2 will be like.

I for one loved EQ (its still my favorite game after trying most other major fantasy mmorpgs).  I am however extremely disappointed in what EQ2 is looking like and can only hope it turns out much better then it currently appears.

While the graphics are technically superior, they have the worst art of any of the major mmorpgs out or in development imo.  Sadly I think even the original pre luclin EQ1 art is better then anything I have seen in EQ2.  This applies to architecture, landscapes but especially to character and weapon models that most kindergartners with a crayon could do better on.

One of the things EQ did so very well was the creation of a diverse npc faction system that made the world come alive.  Sneaking through highkeep or the tunnels under Qeynos as a Dark Elf avoiding the guards and citizens was so much fun to me.

I am currently playing Lineage 2 and really enjoying it but seeing elves walk through the middle of the underground dark elf city and knowing I can go anywhere in the world with none of the races caring diminishes the world and excitement.  EQ2 with its one good and one evil city concept sounds like it will ruin this vital part of what made EQ1 so good.

Visiting the very diverse and culturally unique cities of Norrath was so much fun as well and yet that is removed in EQ2 as all but two of the human cities are destroyed or lost.  Now your choice or race means next to nothing other then appearance.  You no longer have a diverse culture and are stuck with a large melting pot that goes against the natures of the races.  Dark elves, Gnomes, humans, ogres, and trolls living together sharing Freeport as their home city?  Horrible idea.  image

In an attempt to make choosing your class more intuitive they have come up with with a class tree that developers as you level.  While these sound fun they really only harm players ability to choose and take away from the game in general.  Now you get to go through half the levels of the game with an undefined character with few class skills or differences in style while you wait forever to get to a point you can pick the class you wanted all along.

On top of that you often have no better idea what class to chose in games with this mechanic then in one where you are forced to choose when you start.  Even worse, if you chose a class and dislike it you cant just start over with a new character and pick the class you want, now you have to go through 20 or 40 levels of the same bland play to get back to a point where you can pick a new class.

I of course have not played the game since its pre beta and can only hope they somehow make all of these things work out where the game is still a success.  The more I read though, the more I am beginning to believe all of the creative genius behind the original EQ is gone and working on the new Vanguard game or something.

I don't hate SoE or EQ2 but I do worry they have gotten far off track.

i played eq for about 3 years but i have to say it was a fun ass game. the only downfall now is that the graphics suck and everyone is high lvl. eq2 will probly be great cuz the same concept but good graphics and there wont be such a gap between low lvls and high lvls. im looking forward to it.
