SouvecSouvec Member UncommonPosts: 693
Interested in a MMO were one can coexist with others in a city building, civilization builidng style MMO.

Is there anything out there that has such a flavor.  I am looking for more (Civ4, Sim City, AoE3) syle.  Can be anything from web based to 3D.

Thanks.

The closest I can think of is A Tale In The Desert (ATITD).  Do some research on it.

wurmonline has town building if thats what you meant.  its also community based.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

This is the only one that I knew of that matches the OP's description.  I do wish that the graphics and clients were a bit better, but it's free isn't it?  I forget. :P  Anyway....

It has no plans to be an MMO. It's single player with user-generated content.

ATITD is $14/month and a 24 hour gameplay free trial. Atitd you gather resources, build buildings, and build a society with other players with laws made and voted on by players. That's the short version.  It is completly non-combat. I don't think you can  get much closer to Civ 4 or Sim City than that.

Edit: Well I see I've lost 2 stars. Bummer.

Let us know if you find one.   I'd enjoy it.

Even if it had a periodically refreshing world map (after a victor has been named)

and Roma Victor, but you should read the forums for it on here before you try it. Game seems to be a bit unpolished.

I literary have dreams about such a game!

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll have a look at those.

In terms of Civ or Risk, try www.travian.com or www.inselkampf.com they
are browser based though. But Travian especially has a good deal of
graphics if thats what you want.

Thank you all for the suggestions you have made.

I will take a look at the ones that ones mentioned here and hopefully give you some feedback. Unfortunatly I don't think they are exactly what I was looking for, but they may come close to the "ideas" that I had in mind.

Side note:  Is anyone else here getting tired of hack and slash style games.  Maybe its just me and getting older, but from the days of UO, I enjoyed building the home I owned.  I have always enjoyed the Civ-Sim games and would love to see how this could be done in a never-ending setting.  More progress and development, really personalized to the land holder rather than set in a specific treadmill for advancement.  Just curious on your thoughts.

How do you feel on a Community Building MMO?

I may have read your post wrong, but it seems what you want is an MMORTS, take a look at www.mmorts.com for a list. I'd recommend Mankind, and Ballerium, Ballerium however takes a while to get into, but it's a reasonably new game and is a lot of fun if it's your kinda thing.

Id have to aggree that you will love Spore. While you are having direct interaction it certainly is like The Sims when you introduce a family someone else made. You can feel there intent. On the galactic scale itll be all the more apparent. In anycase as for the current crop of games Id recommend A Tale in the Desert.

Can't say I'm getting tired of them, I just want an MMO where the combat and crafting system are both excellent and actually have a purpose. In most games, PvP is largely meaningless other than who has the largest e-peen, and crafters typically can't make anything that holds a candle to common drops.

I'm older too, and Civilisation is one of my favourite games of all-time as well. An MMO simpler than that with the same concept (searching for resources, building towns near them, defending those towns against other players from opposing factions, etc.) would be great if it was done properly.

PvP would have a purpose (more/better resources = better crafters = better outfitted troops, etc.) and there would be a role for everyone. There could also be a strong PvE element, with NPC-controlled towns where you complete traditional quests and gain information on where the best (depletable) resources may be found, or possibly gain new technology.

Eventually, someone gets ahold of a nuke, and everyone starts over again. ;)
