I had made this post on another board but feel that it may also be relevant to this post.  Regarding the original rumor that really kicked off alll this discussion.

Oddly enough - the problem i have with this rumor is that the OP uses "SW:G" instaed of SWG and "Star Wars: Galaxies" instead of Star Wars Galaxies. I have not seen one person from SOE use a colon when talking about the game.

I know it's little, but it's a writing inconsistency I've noticed in this thing. In addition to this - some things I did not like.

"Commonly referred to as PreCU?" If this was from SOE they would have chosen to refer to it as Classic.

"I am pleased to advise that" - advise should be announce.

And the OP says to check the forums for information on transfering characters. I think the information is on the main site, and not on the forums.

These little things bother me, because someone went to good lengths to make this rumor sound legitimate.

The first two were screen caps from a Europe computer.

The one miagisan was taken here in the states.

Can someone get us a screencap from today?

SW:G is used as a abbreviation for the game in the early days, but is also used even these days in press stories. This seems to be a professional acronym for the title.

tillamook - I have been searching high and low for an instance of this.

I would really appreciate it if you could provide a link.

The only person I have seen that uses this frequently is Ransom73.  Not saying by any means that he had anything to do with this rumor.

I live relatively close to Portland, OR.. so West Coast USA.

I have station access on my EQ2 account so I pulled up the SWG launcher.

The two Japanese servers are still listed.. show as offline with a distance of:  7.

If the other US pic is from East Coast.. I would assume the servers are still in Japan.

If they are still located there.. it would seem odd...  If its just a error that makes them appear I guess that makes sense.  Altho I really don't know why those two servers could show up even from an error.

Then again if they are doing something with them.. it seems odd just the same that they are still located where it seems they are...

Lets just say that the servers are up in california, but the setting that specifies location is hard coded.

    Like in the DB
    Location = Japan

Then it would still show relatively long distance when it was actually close.

Now if the SWG Client uses ping or tracert to determine distance, then it means that they are definetly located away from the states.

maybe it's the game server that is telling the log in server that they are that far still when in fact they are located here in the US.

    The thing is -

Before the Japan servers were taken offline - they required a completely different client and a different install.  A lot like how the the Test Center and Live used to run.  Japan servers had there own install folder, and launchpad.  Japan servers would not be on the available servers list unless you were running the Japan launchpad. I know cause i had a character on a Japanese server.

The Japanese servers showed up on a consistent basis once they made all the changes to the lauchpad - the changes that made it possible to run different versions of the game from the same client.

This is very possible if the location is hard-coded.  The more i think of it - A ping or tracert would be horrible to use to dtermine distance.

This is true. You only got the Jap servers if you selected the Jap LP.

ANYONE: IS THIS VERIFIED???? If this is, combined with the emails I've gotten today, this could be something big...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

    Yes..

I knew that the Japanese servers never showed up in my list before.

I just find it odd that.. they would show up even with the launchpad changes... if they were not connected in some way.

Also the hardcoded location thing would make sense.

Only two questions I have are:

    1) If they aren't really there.. as in were diconnected .. why do they show.

    2) The fun part.. if they are there.. regardless of location what are they doing with them.

I don't care how pissed off at SOE I am.. I already have station access to play EQ2 that I don't really like.. and I don't see any MMO including the beta's I'm in.. upcoming that I want to play.

So if they did pop up a classic server or two.. I'd be there for a bit anyway.

Maybe they are just going to put the servers up with the NGE.

The load is too great on the other servers and something has to be done to deal with great demand that will come with the release of Complete.

In regards to the "PreCU" vs "Classic" comment:

I think there is some ambigouity as to whether classic means PreNGE or PreCU.  While CU changed a ton, SWG still retained the "classic control" mechanisms it had prior to the CU.  Since the quasi-fps style of gameplay of the NGE changed that control scheme dramatically many people may equate "Classic" with any rendition of SWG prior to the NGE.

The term PreCU gives a specific version of SWG that SOE would revert to and avoids the ambigouity of the "classic" label.

That's my tinfoil hat version =)
