wouldnt work, takes too long to learn even the basics of this game.

a free deal is in the works, but getting the game up t opar is more important to them

  • GorukhaGorukha Member Posts: 1,441

after 24 hours of beinging logged on yes, but not 1 day. Why you think so many ppl came here and complained about it being impossible to play?

Not only that but a 1 day free trial would ruin the economy. The Devs are going to make an area, of unknown size, and free trial players are going to be restricted within that area. Particiapants will be able to enter be free trialers will bot be able to leave, but they will get the full effect needed.

This is just my opinion of what they are going to do but from things i have read this is more then likely the path they are going to take.

As stated in many other threads here, in RV it takes quite awhile to learn how things work and to appreciate the open-ended sandbox that it is.  Also, when your character starts out he is a slave, utterly without skills, with barely enough vigor to walk 100 meters, defenseless, and except for tasks which must be performed for his master, pretty much directionless.  A person just hopping in on a free trial to play for one evening only is probably not one who will stick around.  In my experience, it took several weeks of playing maybe 20 hours a week to get my character skilled up in some areas to then be able to enjoy the game and be able to contribute to the community.  Took me that long also to train up a little in combat so I could join the town militia when the barbarians raided the town.

I guess RedBedLam could modify the game to make it more appealing to first timers trying it out but then that might take away from the sense of accomplishment you get over many months afterward as you slowly master many skills and are able to do so much more and can craft and fight at a much higher level.

I meant 24 in game hours, since AtiTD did a similar thing offering something like that.  24 in game time should give people enough time to figure out if they like the game or not.

No, they deff need longer then that, many particapants were thinking 1 week in game.

i would go so far as to give people one month for free.

give them time to be well and truly hooked on the game, then ask them to pay a one time fee.

or even treat them like they treated us testers, give us credit for money spent in the VERM...

It should have a free trial,  I wanna try it badly, However, afeter dnl, I kind don't want to waste my money on somthing I might not play.

35 dollar, one time fee, don't like it always come back after the next patch. Eventually it iwll get to a point where you like it. If you don't spend your money in game then you cna get a refund. Might take a week to get it back but you will get it back.

$35 for a game that isn't done? Will eventually get to a point you like it? Please. There's a good PR campaign. "Buy our game. Eventually you will like it!". Why bother to buy the game just to shelve it until it gets enough patches to call itself "finished"? Because you can get your money back a week or so later? Why give them any money? Force them to actually make a complete game and earn their money like developers are supposed to do. I'm not flaming you, Virtus. It just pisses me off that we apparently have one more company making people pay to play a beta. And people that are willing to do so are the reason the companies do it. I thought RV was going to be something different when it was first announced. Maybe if they make enough money from people buying their beta game, they may finish it someday. I'll try it then.

never said you had to shelve it. Just said If you don't like it shelve it. Thats what 3000 some people have done. RV is something diffrent.

The Trial will be free once they make it. Right now they have bigger fish to fry. The updates are in and they are very quickly solving all the issues. Now that hte server is stable I think things will be moving alot more quickly.

    Updates

5 within 8 days, we arn't used to that image

As for keeping it in beta

Your right, they need the money, but it is a small company and they have hearts of gold

If they kept it in Beta tll they were done it wouldn't be out till 2009ish, if not later. (there is currently enough in game content to keep you busy untill next updates)

    EDIT

I don't think people realize why a free trial for this game is so hard. Let me try to some it up.

RV is based around an economics model. Everyone who goes into game and buys, sells, and trades objects  affects the  economics of the the game, no matter how slight it might  be. They also take natural resources from a source with limited resources, thus a new mine will have to be built sooner then was expected.

What RB is doing is going to make it so that ppl on free trials cannot affect the ingame economics. Instead they will have thier own econmics sytstem, ghost object or something, they will not beable to access particpant mines but they can get to these "ghost resources".

As for restrictions, you will not be able to travel very far, IDK, nbot much has been said about it from them, just that they are planning one for the future.

Here, here brother!  The server stability was horrible at release, then got MUCH better, but then slipped some the past few weeks.  Last night, after processing the last patch, I logged on first try and experienced ZERO lag.  There is now 900 square kilometers of playable land, several new towns, villages, and forts ready to be populated, and animals roaming the countryside and I did not experience a single second of lag the whole time I was online.  Hopefully this was not just a fluke and RBL has really got a handle on the server stability.  I think RV lost a lot of new players who didn't stick around long enough to really experience the game because of lag and game crashes.

    Too true.

Reading this thread is like listening to a sales pitch for one of those pyramid scams. The players of RV keep trying to sucker more and more players into buying the game that they know they'll hate, in the hopes that eventually RedBedlam will make enough money to give them the next patch.

Every other game out there has trees/animals/properly-named-NPCs. I'm not going to play a game that doesn't have these things, because FINISHED games SHOULD have them, and UNFINISHED games shouldn't be asking me to pay them to put these things in at a later date. It may seem to you RV players that this is a very minor thing, but allowing it to continue by ignoring it will cause more damage than it prevents.

There's good reason that you aren't used to it. Nobody else does it.

If they had enough content to do 5 full patches within a week, it should have been added in the original release, or at the very least all at once in a larger patch. Spreading it out over time and making a big fuss over stupid things like tree placement and animal spawns just gives more propaganda for people like you to throw around as if it really means something.

I think you are either, 1) totally missing Virtus’s pint or 2) trying to piss people off. Either way demonstrates your intelligence, and to be honest, I am quite glad you hate the game, I am also quite glad to be so vocal about it. Because anyone who will take your word for it is no someone I want playing my game. I am glad we have so many people trying to get people to TRY the game, because we do have growth, some people like this game, and the people who don’t sometimes go out and become perfect advertisements like you.

No other game out there has to deal with things in anywhere near the scale that this game is. I want you to ask yourself how large Europe is, hell go look up the area of the roman empire, and add about 10% or perhaps a little more (in the end it may be closer to 50 to 100% larger than Rome ever was) and you will have an idea how large the idea is. The game world is one to one scale mapped from satellite images of Europe. Right now we have a small budget, and so a small number of servers (I think we only have about 6 machines for all 900Sq Km) as the game grows, more players will join, and more income will allow for more servers. It will grow slowly, so keep it up we have time to filter the good people out of the internet. We at least will see an end to the “Eternal September” in our little corner of the ‘net.

They didn’t have that much content to add at startup. They didn’t have that content until they added it. the reason we have had a lot of updates was two fold, first they didn’t have enough people to properly test, hopefully they learned their lesson when they asked the some community members to help out internally, second there are only five developers and each of them works in his own specialty so each has his own projects he does, sometimes they overlap. Hell KFR is the company prez but works 18 hours a day and is taking community questions and answering them at 3 AM my time (-7GMT…). These guys work hard, so when they finish a project they release it. we just had several guys finish at once. And I got news for you, more of them are finishing their projects as we speak.

And of course, very little fuss was put up over tree placement ,hell some of the texture placement is just plane crazy. No one cares. It was the existence of trees in the wilderness which was an issue. And again few people care about animal spawns, hell they don’t even require a server restart. KFR just logs in and walks over pulls the animal out of his inventory and drops it there, now its spawn point is set. It takes time but for most people he has already finished. Until you have some hardcore experience in this game you will not notice a lack of NPCs. Though I am sure everyone would wish for more, its not required by the economy or the system.

So at the very least if your going to bash the game, pull your head out of your ass first. There is plenty to bash, but right now you look like a Mule trying to get more people to join the game.

Yes people love to hear me talk about how unfinished the game is.  I guess when you advertise Worlds Crappiest (Put anything Here) it becomes a tourist attraction lol.

Also you admitting the game has no auto spawning is a bold move.  It's kinda realistic RP wise. Gods walking around dropping animals out of their pouches LOLarious. Intelligent design exists,  in this game at least :)

I dont hate the game, I hate the fact you were in over your head and decided to release this game anyways.

WOW! dude, seriously, get new eyes.

    READ MY TEXT!!!

THERE IS NO AUTO SPAWNS BECAUSE THE AUTO SPAWNS NEED TO BE PLACED. ONCE THE AUTO SPAWNS ARE PLACED THERE WILL BE AUTO SPAWNS!!

need me to use smaller words?

  • JetJonJetJon Member Posts: 31

there are auto spawns. its simply the nature of programming that the code has to be written at some point. no computer can do it for you, if yours can i will personaly destroy it as a danger to the human race.

the spawns are set, so lthere are now animals in game.

  • GorukhaGorukha Member Posts: 1,441
Are the auto spawns placed yet ?

So, when are they going from alpha to beta? Do they have any time-frame at all, or are they using the tried-and-true method of "When it's done" so they can get all the money they can from an unfinished game?

  • JetJonJetJon Member Posts: 31

    leave.

thats what you need to do.

    becasue THIS GAME WILL NEVER
BE FINNISHED! it is a constantly evolving sandbox style game, by nature
it can never be finished, nor can it ever be beaten or maxed. it is an
    open end sandbox.

Okay, let me rephrase: when will it have all of the things it said it would have upon release? When will it have all of it's spawns, items, graphics, etc.? And who the hell are you to tell anyone to leave? I'll tell ya now: nobody. And if you think your feeble attempts at insults which you seem to like throwing in your posts (such as telling people they are not intelligent, idiots, etc.), further alienating YOUR game as you put it from the people with money. Where's your name on the credits? Where's your cut of the monthly intake? Exactly. This isn't your game, it belongs to the devs who have suckered you into paying to play an alpha, almost beta, game. So the next time you get this sudden urge to think you are somehow above and beyond the average member at this site, look in the mirror and remember the little man you are.

  • VirtusVirtus Member Posts: 492
We aren't going to make you leave, we just arn't going to respond to your posts.

My last response to both of you

Goruhka or w/e: they are in dumbshit, read jet's post again, telling yeah, get new eyes

Whats your face above me: I believe all the objects that they said would be in are now in not 100% sure though.

  • ZorvanZorvan Member CommonPosts: 8,912

Well, I guess that says all that needs to be said as far as JetJon. Let me know when he comes out from behind your skirt, Virtus. As far as this game goes, if you like paying for alpha/beta code then by all means do so. But don't sucker people who may not know what they are getting into just because you don't wanna be alone in your mistakes. "Whats your face above me"--that was real original. What happened, you lose your book of mama jokes?::::07:: Whatever. Lube up and enjoy some more of your game. Peace::::02::

  • GorukhaGorukha Member Posts: 1,441
100% ? Arent alot of the skill trees not in the game yet ?
