Guild Wars Nightfall, A few questions.

SirwalloSirwallo Member Posts: 53
Hi there =) I was reading a poll that was asking which GW was the best
to start and Nightfall won by far, so maybe I will buy Guild Wars this
week or the next after I format C, but there are a few questions that
are numbling my mind, well I will shot'em for you, hope you awnser ^^.

1) If I buy GW:Nightfall will I'm going be able to play with all the
professions? Or only the 2 that Nightfall ADD to the original game?

2) With Nightfall what content of the other two GW will I loose?

3) Do you recommend me, if I like the game VERY much, buying the all three games?

Wow, thank you for reading and thanks in advance for your awnsers, bye ^^.

  • 1) All campaigns can play the 6 core professions.  Factions and Nightfall have 2 extra "homeland" professions.

    2) Each campaign has its own set of unique skills that you miss out on.  Just like Core professions, there is a set of core skills all campaigns share.  Each campaign has its own missions and areas as well.  There may be some features such as Alliance battles for factions or Heroes for nightfall that are campaign specific.  Some features that were campaign specific have been move to core such as crafting material storage.

    3)  If you like the game and can afford it I would get all three, they all have their good parts and the extra skill options are very nice.  Whether you just want to get a PvP unlock or the full PvE campaign is up to you.  But certain kinds of builds are often cross campaign.  You can defintely come up with good skill builds no matter what, though.

    1) All the professions, minus assassin and ritualist, which you have to have Factions for.

    2) The two above mentioned professions, a lot of great PvE play from the original "Prophecies" game, some good PvE, GvG and some PvE stuff from Factions. Of course some eye candy stuff, different looks to characters of the same class, some armor, etc. Nothing you can't live without.

    3) I started with factions, loved it, bought the original, and ended up pre-ording Nightfall. I highly suggest getting all three, but you don't have to do it all at once. It's nice to change between campaigns when you get bored or frustrated in one of them.

    I hope that helps.

if you realy realy like the game , for sure its best to have all 3 chapters and merge all to one acount , that is the way to do it , the world get bigger and bigger and you have all skills possible : professions/items/pve content/pvp content etc etc etc in the game.

My advice if you insist on trying this game, buy Nightfall, play through the story. With the experience in playing you have gained and the skills you have unlocked, try PvP with a PvP only character.

If you find the PvE content worth $50, you may also want to buy the other chapters. I don't think the PvE content is worth the cost, but others may decide differently.

If you enjoy PvP alot, decide if you enjoy it enough to buy one or more of the PvP unlock packs instead of the full chapters. No PvE content from those chapters, but you gain access to the chapter classes, plus you unlock all the skills assosciated with that chapter (core and any chapter classes also supported) for your PvP only characters.

It all comes down to cost to play vs. your enjoyment of the game.

If you are primarily a PvE player, this game does NOT offer good value for the buck, just forget about it.

If you like both PvE and PvP, buy Nightfall and exhaust your PvE and PvP content options as much as possible before deciding to buy anything else. It's easy to get enthused by the game early on and want to spend more money to unlock the other chapters, but it's also easy to find yourself sitting there a month or two later with a LOT of buyers remorse.

If you are primarily a PvP player, forget about the full chapters and consider the unlock packs. Play enough PvP with what ever your original purchase was to be sure you want to invest in the game, then buy the unlock packs. The incentive to earn faction points will be gone, so either be sure you enjoy the arena play enough to do so with no real ingame reward, or find a good Guild vs. Guild focused guild to join and participate in the guild ladder ranking system.

The game was barely (if at all) an mmorpg before recent changes, now it clearly has slipped beyond any tenuous claim to that title. There is still a game some people will enjoy here, but it's appeal has narrowed and if you are looking for an MMORPG, this game is not it!

I don't agree with fiontar. There are propably more pve players then pvp players in GW. PvE part in NF greatly improved compared to other chapters.

There is not enough PvE content, nor a strong enough PvE community, for the game to be worth much for a PvE MMORPG fan. PvE and PvP used to support each other in this game, when you ran out of PvE content (which can happen very quickly), you can enjoy PvP. When you need a break from PvP, you could replay PvE content to benefit your PvP options. With recent changes, playing PvE to support PvP play is pointless.

Everyone's milage will vary, which is why I recommend that a new player wanting to try the game start with Nightfall and play through it exhaustively, so they can decide if it was worth the money or not, BEFORE buying anything else for the game.

I would still, however, stand by my general suggestion that a PvE MMORPGer, with little or no interest in PvP, is not going to find much here. A lot less content than a good solo RPG, a lot less to explore than an MMORPG and no real PvE community to speak of. PvP IS the end game and is easily, if not preferably, completely seperated from the PvE side of the game.

I'm going to have to disagree with fiontar on one small point. A normal PvE MMORPG'er that's used to massive grind fests and a huge amount of crafting/selling character skills probably won't get much out of the PvE in Guild Wars. But, for someone like me that transfered from console gaming to GW there's more than enough to satisfy me. Like he said, everyone's milage will vary.

I find that the best way to enjoy the PvE game is to stop and smell the roses, take the random quests you get, read the dialouge, PUG a bit even if you're in a good guild. If you blaze through the game you run out of content REAL fast and then you're stuck with "just" the high end content or rolling another character.

    Good responces on this thread....

Id like to add only this, if you do end up buying 2 or more campaigns
(factions and/or prophecies) then MAKE SURE you add their keys through
the GAME CLIENT and NOT through the website. If you add those keys
through the website, you create a NEW account, which will NOT share
storage with characters on your other account and will not be in the
guild your other account is in (all characters from the same account
will be in the same guild it seems)

If you add your key through the game client, you will raise maximum
character slots AND all your characters will share storage so it will
make your new char's life a bit easier. I just bout factions and
nightfall, I made a mistake and added nightfall through the website so
now i cant share storage, which means i start with zero money and no
items i collected while leveling other char from the other account. Im
currently in talks with CSRs but their responces are somewhat slow
(been 2 days since last update from CSRep)

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I brought my Necro to Elona and took the Heroes, went to Cantha and took the Hero, and finally to Tyria and took the Hero.

I'll be playing to get the Protector titles from the first 2 chapters, then off to Nightfall campaign.

As for me, it's all about the minions, if a chapter doesn't have a new minion...I may not get it.

    Ready for GW2!!!

I played EQ1 for 6 years. It's safe to say I was used to the massive grind and was initially disappointed when I hit the 20 level cap. I wondered if that was what the game was all about. I didn't play for awhile and then came back to discover Guild Wars wide lateral depth and I now much prefer it over the old lvl and item grind from my EQ days. There's plenty to do in PvE . Ascension, quests, open maps for newer chars, unlock skills. Explore other continents. Craft armors. Experiment with builds, change secondary professions etc.
