Is it fair that Guild Wars is listed and ranked 3 times?

in The Pub at MMORPG.COM

It is 1 online world, with the basic game and 2 expansions.

If we would say for example that you dont have to buy WoW to play Burning Crusade, would you consider this 2 different games then?

I think not ...

Edit :

Another question to think about :

What if SOE repackages their EQ into "EQ classic + Expansions X" and does this 12 times, 1 for each expansion.

Then they would have 12 standalone games? Then they would have to be listed and rated 12 times here?

And technically each Guild Wars game DOES need the same base game. The only difference is that in this case the base game and expansions are integrated as 1.

    If I didn't need WoW to play BC then I would onsider them as 2 different games..
    We already had like gazilion threads about this..

    I dont think GW should be on the list at all because 1. its blows, 2. its not a real mmo, 3.it blows

    I asked if you didnt have to BUY it ...

    You still use all the same game design code from guild wars in the expansions.

    If they for example include WoW for free in the Burning Crusade package ...

    Yes it is fair, deal with it.  Does it matter, do you actually pay attention to the rankings?  Seriously...it is not that important.  Do you think someone is going to buy 1 game over another because it is ranked with an 8.3 and not an 8.2 on mmorpg.com?

    Do you guys here in the pub ever argue about anything else besides GW vs WoW or Wow vs EQ(II)?

    Guild Wars in the rank  list is just fair, it has quite a large population and the graphics are good and the its no subscription.. don't need to spend my scarce bucks. lol

    To me this not about WoW vs GW or whatever.

    to me it is about a fair ranking system.

    And yes, the ranking does influence me for trying out new games.

    It is why I tried out Eve Online.

    btw, I play EvE online atm, not WoW.

    I accepted that Guild Wars is ranked a long time ago, but why 3 times for the same game ( same online world )

    Now if the 3 Guild Wars expansions would have been played on seperate serves, well THEN it would have been a whole different story.

    But it isnt, it is the same game.

    It's not a argument about WoW/EQ/GW. It's just silly to list them 3 times. It's the same game just different expansions.

    Why don't we have 12 listings for EQ1, 3 for EQ2, and soon to be 2 for WoW? Cause it's a dumb idea and whomever thought up this for GW needs to rethink it and put them all in one.

    Okay I just checked the list for wich games would have been in the top 7 if guild wars was only listed once.

    It is Phantasy Star Universe (okay knew that one already)

    and Eudemons ... ??? I never heard of this game, and still it is ranked so high, prolly something I should check out ...

    Now if we didnt had this discussion, I wouldnt have gone and check the list and would never have heard of the game eudemons ...

    Another thing to think about, how will guild wars be remembered? as 3 seperate games or as 1 game?

    If everyone is honest, all would say as 1 game ...

    Guild Wars has been released in 3 seperate chapters. When you create a character you choose a campaign top play with that character, so they're not necessarily like normal expansions in other games.

    people voted for it.

    and i guess they voted which chapter they like most

    I have no problem with it been listed for each different release, however, on the "top X MMOs", only the highest value should be taken into account, the lowest values should be ignored.

     

    Otherwise having a TOP X become useless, where in fact, you have a top2.  If someone dislike any of the 3 versions of GW, there are little chance that another version is going to appeal them, since they are quite similar.

     

    I mean, if I do a TOP X best strategic games and it read as...

     

    1- Civ IV   95%

    2- GalCiv 2  93%

    3- CiV IV: Warlords 92%

    4- CiV IV: *new expansion coming soon, so I don't want to invent a title*  90%

    5- GalCiv 90%

    6- Cilisation III

     

    and so on...

     

    It is unfair for original games such as Total War, Massive Assault and more...which definitely deserve to be put between the best version and any expansion of the franchise...

    It's rather simple to me, each GW game can be played w/o either of the other 2 so yes they should be listed seperately.

    I dont really know if I consider it fair or unfair, I dont really tend to pay attention to rankings. I simply look at game trailers and screenshots, read up on the story lines, and if it sounds like something I'd be interested in, I play it regardless of what its ranked on this site or any other. While a rank may influence your purchase, really you should just try things for yourself and decide upon what YOU like for yourself.

    It's the same game, just list the main release and remove the 2 xpacs so that there is room to add 2 other games to provide better information for visitors to the site.

    Average out the 3 ratings if you must.

    GW is cool enough to b listed 3 times, thats y all 3 games r on the top 7.
