Originally posted by Aelfinn Yes and no, item looting is out, but there is something known as blood money. Blood money is used to purchase items specifically made for PvP, the only way to get more of it, is by looting it from fallen players. As to alliances, its player choice FFA, the endgame revolves around sieging and defending guild cities. Its a mixture of skill base and level base, theoretically, a skilled enough player could still defeat one 30-40 levels above him, maybe even with a wider gap if the higher up guy was particularly incompetent. Lustmord, its called realistic graphics Thrakk, AoC's combat system is a directional base, you have to aim every spell, you must direct each swing of your weapon, no autoattack and go to sleep here.
Shame about the no item looting - but hey, blood money is better than nothing. Hopefully there will be some other penalty in death though - i don't like fighting the same person i just killed (or who just killed) me 30 seconds later.
Other than that, it sounds great! Thanks for the reply, i will have to keep an eye on this one

Im having a look at all the games mentioned in this thread too, cant wait to try them. Everquest 2 was hyped to China and back, but when I tried it, meh. So wont point out a winner yet.
Yea, EQ2 was a real downer for me and my crew. No big shocker with $OE I guess... That is the single biggest thing that scares me about Vanguard: Brad McQuad. If EQ2 was his idea of fun, I wouldn't touch Vanguard with a 10 foot pole. It was so bleh...and at around 30 one friend quit, so 30-40+ I tried to duo with the only guy left and that turned out to be about 20% of the content we wanted to do.
I hate large raids and forced grouping all the time, everywhere. I like playing with 1-4 friends...if I feel like I'm missing out heavily in a game with that play style, I just won't play.

I wish Aion was coming out in 2007. I know they said beta was sometime in 2007 but I wonder if that is also for the western market or if the western market will have to wait 6 months or so.
Quite frankly, the only mmo I like for the future is Aion. LOTRO intrigues me but I have my doubts. I would love it if I was wrong (and I am a true believer in making up my own mind, no matter what other people say as I have my own personal benchmarks for what makes a satisfying gameplay experience).
Conan just isn't doing it for me. I liked the books but I prefer games where my avatar can be sleek and otherworldly (and yes, I play a lot of elves) as opposed to barbaric and unwashed.
Warhammer just doesn't speak to me at all. Neither does Vanguard.
I guess I'm not into game hopping. I really feel that in order to truly experience these games you need to "be there". That some sort of commitment is needed.
I have been playing Lineage 2 for about 3 years now. I love so many things about it but in the end it just isn't doing it. I suppose the next update will be the telling factor as to whether or not I continue.
We'll see.

Thats the exact reason why I am excited about Conan.
Somehow I'm not quite believing we get to chop each other's heads off during PvP in Conan. I'm not entirely sure I'd even want my head chopped off... even if it IS only a game.

Certain countries, including Germany, have laws against players being decapped in virtual reality. So, unless FC works in some kind of toggle based on where you are, it will be limited to PvE.

Also, and nobody mentioned it before, I'm looking forward to what David Perry can make out of that asian grind-o-matic mmorpg in 2Moons (got decapitations too).

AoC Best PvP I think
Vangaurd Most freedom
GaH Great graphics
WaR Dont know much about it
In terms of PVP there is only one: Darkfall Online (if it comes out in 2007)
there is no other game that promises what Darkfall promises, AoC and War are carebear games compared to it.

all others will bow down.

Huxley
vanguard
age of conan
pirates of the burning sea
Won't be 2007, they've only recently begun production for those two. They will definately be late 2008, early 2009.
Edit: Typo
I'll be definitly checking those two out later on!
But for next year... Warhammer online baby
Aion
Pirates of the Burning sea
Warhammer online
Darkfall, because it's the only game that comes even close to what MMORPGs could be.
Warhammer Online, because I'm the biggest goddamn warhammer fan evah.
Conan, because it has the best graphical look so far.
One thing in common with all of these 3 is of course that they are PvP games. PvE focused games I don't even consider real MMORPGs.

Great game, was specially fun when you made a sync decapitating move and both players cut off the head of the other at the same time
