So... I can go to Horde Territory and kill a lvl 5 if I'm lvl 60 now AND take his stuff?
Look at the word Ganking. Look at the words "Gank" and "Ganked"

Gank is also used in relation to Player vs. Player games where a group of 2 or more people gang up and kill another player, especially if they have an unfair advantage over the person being killed, and is an abbreviation for Gang Kill. Popularised by the MMORPG Ultima Online, it is now often used in any situation where the person being killed is at a significant disadvantage to the person killing, as in "That jerk just ganked me!". The term has evolved in MMORPGs so that a player can be "ganked" by one other player if that other player is of such significantly higher level that the ganked player has no realistic chance to beat the ganker, or even escape with his life, regardless of skill.
The word ganking has a diffrent meaning in MMORPGS then it does In real life. Ganking has nothing to do with playerlooting.

But that still doesn't explain the "Sorry for your loss" at the end. lol
I guess I shall explain that to you as well then.
Its a well known video. In real life, a WoW player died, and her friends and guild members decided to hold an ingame funeral, and those players crashed the funeral. "Sorry for your loss" is refering to the fact they(friends & Guild members) lost a friend/guildmember because the girl died in real life.
The fact Serenity Now crashed the funeral caused quite an uproar. They claimed they were "just trying to encourage pvp" and later were "sorry for the grief they caused". Then they release video titles like "So we Pwned this Funeral LOL", which shows how really sorry they are.
They rationalized it with "it's a pvp server" argument. Apparently they cannot distinguish between real life and a game. They made things worse not only by attacking the mourners, but then bragging about it after the fact.
Some said that they shouldn't of held a funeral on the pvp server. Well I attended an ingame funeral years back in EQ1, so you hold it on the server the person played on. Either you go to his/her favorite spot or some place that is scenic for such an event.
Another sad instance of the anonimity of the internet at work.

She constantly used to talk trash on the forums and I guess some people hold grudges even after death....
Its not like this was some little sweet innocent little girl that didn't cause any problems or ruffle any feathers... She was a **** talker and drama queen as were a few of her buddies.
While it might not have been something that I would have done. Honestly I can't say she didn't have it comming.

If this chick really was a drama queen and "had it coming", what better way to wipe the slate clean than fake your own death?
It was probably a guy anyways. He started masquerading as a girl early on and it went way out of hand. Once people started poking holes in his fake identity it was time to call it quits. Time to cut losses and turn all that hate into pity.
If anyone has read Richard Bartle's book "Designing Virtual Worlds", you'll notice that this story follows almost perfectly to his outline for identifying a fake online personality.

I would have done the same thing as Serenity Now. A huge funeral on a PVP server? come on, what the hell are you thinking, there's going to be ganking. Why dont you just wear a huge fucking sign saying "KILLMENOW"...ugh.
Okay, i probably wouldnt have done the same thing that Serenity Now did. But i find it hilarious, and i like what they did. Brutality is one thing i want to see more in a MMO.
Though its ok if you call me fucked up, or whatnot. I agree its a pretty shitty thing, and completely morally wrong lol. But i do think there needs to be more backstabbing and slaughter in MMO's.

Tinybina I can't believe you just said that someone deserved to die for their gameply in a video game? I hope I misunderstood that statement, no words can convey how asinine a statement that would be if true. It's a game, if I had someone trash-talking me on the forums I wouldn't take it personal especially to that degree. If Serenity Now did, they are even more immature that I gave them credit for or have zero self-esteem.
I don't care if the deceased was the biggest drama queen in Internet Gaming History, obviously she had enough people to care about her to warrant a funeral for her Real Life Death. What Serenity Now did was deplorable, reagardless of any percieved (justified or not) character flaws of the deceased. They crossed the line of ingame "roleplaying" and real life common decency. Essentially what you are saying that if a friend of yours is an a**hole that it would be ok for me to come and disrupt his funeral, cuz he was an a**hole after all?

As far as my friend your enemy statement... Let me put it to you like this.. If Bin laden dies im sure there will be those around him that will mourn him, but there will also be others out their that would love to dig him up and chop him to pieces or something like that.
Same can be said of Muderors, Politicians, Heads of State, and yes trash talkers. Not everyone is loved and some people make real bad enemys of people. Just because one of my enemys dies, doesnt mean my hate for him will.. Same can be said for alot of people.. Thats just the way it is for some, we can't all be hollier then thou and walk around on water and ****.

..i think Tiny just meant a beatdown and a few corpsecamps in the game. Or a Guild KOS thing.
Not dying in real life, that'd be extreme extreme. I dont wish that on any person in a game i hate. I'll just kick their ass in the game (and sometimes that backfires xD), and all is well. Move on.
And if that person had it coming, then by all means kill everyone allied to her/him lol. Add a little RPing to it.
I don't mind if someone quotes me, but please Tinybina quote the whole sentence so the meaning is clear. I said I thought your statment implied that and I hope I misunderstood it.

Again I cannot see comparing a WoW player who may or may not have been a "drama queen" to real life militants, in your example Bin Laden. He is responsible for real life killing as opposed to a person playing a video game who did pvp. I also can't see how (or why) you are equating heads of state, politicians and murderers with a pvp gamer?
What Serenity Now did was wrong and they are trying to hide behind "roleplaying" and "pvp server" arguments. They could of diffused the issue quickly had they sincerely apologized and WoW life would go on. Yet, they (and those supporting them) flamed the WoW forums. They posted videos showing what they did, like they were proud of it. Their actions after the incident were almost as bad as the incident itself.
Oh and although there are a few players that I can't stand, I would never wish the player to die. Nor would I crash a funeral ingame in honor of them. I may take exceptions to his/her pvp shenanigans, but that wouldn't give me the right to be... well... beyond disrespectful.

ok, I am seeing from the people angry at Serenity that you can't be big fans of a game like Shadowbane. I think if it had happened in that game no one wouldve said anything because that stuff is expected there. But because it happened in happy fluffy bunny land (WoW) everyone is up in arms.
