so the server maintance takes 8 hours?

in Final Fantasy XI
that's the question i have, i'm new to the game and try to log today and as soon as i did they told me to log out cause of server maintance. so does it really take 8 hours?

    There reaplaceing the playonline server thats why it's taking 8 hours today =)
