Originally posted by Rayx0r Originally posted by Awakened Originally posted by Rayx0r Ive known several people to work computer retail I remember buying the x-box when it came out through an employee EB who was a friend of mine and having him "specially reserve" one for me. What happens is that the employees buy these things even before they give them to the pre-orders whether or not they put money down on them. chances are they got enough PS3's, but the computer nerds at the shop bought them and the ones that didnt gave their friends a "special reserve". I mean, after all.. these kids work in PC game retail. Theyre gamers just like us. If you had their job, wouldnt you feel that you deserved that pre-order PS3 more then some customer? and by all means im not justifying whats going on, I think its BS. But if I still had this friend in retail PC games, I would have expected the same "friend" treatment.
This isn't acceptable in any legit retailer FYI, they literally fire people for this.
and as it should be! i would hope people would get fired for this..
although, what if the people who do the firing.. are the people doing the deed?
Gamestop here in Frederick, Maryland (I dunno if anywhere else) has said they will fire employees that do this and has went as far to restrict sales of units to employees until after Dec 31st. This only goes for the store they work at.. If they want to go wait in line at another game stop, they're welcomed to.
Originally posted by Novaseeker I've come to believe that this "undersupply" tactic is a marketing technique for consoles. By keeping them rare, they keep demand high, and they also limit the number of units that are in circulation until there is more software to support them.
There's really no other possibility. It's not as if Sony, if they wished to do so, would not be capable of building 1 million consoles and shipping them rapidly to North America. That they only shipped about 100,000 happened on purpose. It's not an accident.
Oh yes they pretend it's an accident, but I'm sorry, I just don't believe it. It happens EVERY time a console is put out by just about EVERY company. They are clearly doing pretty much just what you say.
That is totaly insane! When i went out to get my Game Cube (worst thing i have ever done), i got in line about 12th from the front, and they had 3 lines going at the same time, the guy in frount of me had the bright idea that he would save every pany (and i do mean pany's) he got tell this momnet, so he had hundereds of pany roll's. It took the casher 20min just to count it all, by the time i was next in line they were all out of the consol. I was about to lose it when the casher replyed, " I'm sorry sir, we only had 48 sytems shiped to this store"! Gurrrrr
PC gaming FTW!
But deep down i still love my consols, just wish the compeny were not such a bunch of rep offs.
A.) you can get 2 very differnt game consuls, the best game or two for ea. and an extra controler for each. TRUE
B.) its system setup makes it a pain to develop for, thus games more annoying to develope for and upset devs=bad games(buggier, less gets in for deadline, more expesive) And Still The PS2 Haqve the best games out there today, Yes it takes more talent to develop for PS2/3 But The great games are worth it
C.) blue ray disks while holding more data take much longer to load. if sony doesn't pull some fancy junk(making it harder to develope for), the game will take 20-30 mins to load. 20-30 mins to load? Do you have a PS3 to confirm this? I say BS!
D.) blue ray is locked down by sony, making it a bad format. and from sony's history their previous locked down formats have never gotten anywhere.(technically shouldn't hurt the system, but it annoys me) Thats also True
E.) sony has reduced the number of systems in my cryptic future site, as they know its buggy and by reducing the # of systems there are less to replace/fix. Anothe BS from you! They just couldn't produce enough, just that.
F.) they are going to allow you to have a key board and mouse... bye bye shooters and the only point for playing them on the consul.... the controler limits you in ways, and the people you are playing with. ???? I for one like the Idea of ussing a Keyboard and mouse, FPS just don't play right with a joystick.
G.) the only game that you can't find similar else where would be final fantasy, and possiabley the metal gear/suicide gear And yet, Those are the balance between getting a PS3 and a 360, MGS by itself is well worth the money for the PS3. Also heavely sword is looking pretty good.
Unfortunatelly The 360 failed in japan, The best games(rpgs at least) comes from japan, With soo very little numbers in there, I don't see any great games comiing for the 360 from japan(only Blue dragon, But thats pretty much paid by MS.)
Who says 360 failed in japan?? I keep hearing that its picking up in Japan and the east quite well.
Everything I read, from the BBC to game sites, reported that the 360 sales were very sluggish at the launch. It doesn't seem to be as popular as other consoles in Japan and no where near as popular as it is in the US and Britain. It's probably not fair to say it "failed" but it didn't do very well. Maybe it's doing better now... don't know. I can't imagine that it would do well compared to the PS3 or Wii in Japan especially.
#1 what does the PS3 have to do with MMO's? Isnt this a site to discuss MMO's!?!?!?
#2 What more can you expect from Sony. A company that undercuts it's own Blu Ray technology that other manufacturers are making by putting it in the (relatively compared cheap) PS3 at 600 where they are charging 1000?
#3 This is the same company whose division SOE killed one of the most beloved MMO's on the marked in Star Wars Galaxies.
So again I say....This surprises you! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
I am getting a Wii cause it isn't trying to compete with my PC......I played the PS3 yesterday for the first time, amazing graphics for a console, will it compete with my PC? Never.
Thank you Nintendo for redeeming yourself after the gamecube and Sony can bite it. They are going to loose millions on the console launch ( which is common as it is usually made up witihin the first year in rights and games and what not) and if the blue ray looses to HD DVD....... talk about a money pit. No one deserves it more.

Why are you guys paying $600 for a PS3. I would get and X360 or preorder a Wii even save some money for the new Nvidia 8800.
