true , but we know that way before guildwars was on top on that list

and we also know , it will be no time before eve gets back up ... sooo

Who says I want GW on top? I'd rather have EVE on top then GW, where at least I know EVE is an MMORPG, GW is not. If it is true that an EVE player is creating new accounts to hype EVE, and I say IF, then your not doing any better then that person is. the ratings are already screwed up enough as it is without hoards of GW fanbois giving the game 10's and other games 1's.

and nice going, calling all WoW players 11 years old, which is pretty rich, comming from a GW player.

Well, EVE is good to some people. I've only tried it once, and I didn't care for the feel of it. And I agree with you on the giving games 10s and others 1s thing, it's very annoying. The only game I've given a 10 to is Vanguard: Saga of Heroes....because to me, it deserves a 10. I don't think I've given a 1 to anything except Ogre Island and that was just so it had a rating.

But FYI GW IS an MMORPG. There's tons of people that play it, it's online, you get gear and a character and skills for roleplaying, and it's a game. See....MMORPG. But you're right though, there's more litle kids playing GW because it's free than little kids playing WoW.

Ya gotta agree though that there's definitely something wrong with the rating system if EVE is staying on top most the time, because it's actually NOT that popular nowadays. If anything should be on top it should be WoW only because there's tons of people that play it and rate it, obviously someone is messing with the rating system.

that would make it an ONRPG, not an MMORPG. your not playing with a massive amount of people, you either playing alone or with a small group. you can't play with more, hence its not an MMORPG.

    Although

    Edit:
Ive just checked the number on the first page, and its almost been 12
hours since this thread has been posted, and there are over 3000 more
accounts registered on the site. So your looking at 250 accounts per
hour, or around 1 account being registered every 15 seconds. Obviously
a handfull will be serious registrants on another note, laods of these
registrations are coming from a site called 126.com which from my
google search appears to be a chinese site (most of the rgistration
    e-mails are *something*@126.com)

    Which
likely means it's a RMT site that is just pre-registering an assload of
accounts in order to forum spam their crap. I pity the MMORPG mods when
    that happens.

So what if it's not mmorpg? It shouldn't be on mmorpg.com then, you think, right? Just get over it. Many people like playing GW. Sure there are lot's of immature people but there are lot's of immature pople in every mmorpg. At least GW tried to do things differently that I can't say about many mmorpgs out there.

so, just because 7 million people play WoW, it has to be rated #1? look mate, MMORPG rating is not a measure of number of players or even economic succes. it is suposedly a raing of 8 variables that want to rate the quality of the game.

saying that WoW should be #1 because many people play is like saying that Titanic is the best movie ever and should be #1 on every rating.

    now, for your pleasure:

    World of Warcraft MMORPG's rating = 8.1   World of Warcraft User's rating = 8.1   user's hype = +0.0

    EVE Online MMORPG's rating = 8.4   EVE Online User's rating = 8.3    user's hype = -0.1

so, no multiple account conspiracy here. if anything, there are multiple account holders pushing EVE's rating below the oficial site rating. it is just that EVE Online is a better game than WoW.

I used to play eve about 2 years and I remember seeing often threads like "eve is losing rating at mmorpg and is #2, go vote it". In fact I remember all hype on eve forums when eve was still not #1 rated here but getting close to it and people asking everyone go vote eve. Everytime if someone said something different like asking stop rallying people to vote there then he must have been idiot.

EVE fanbois are here on this site to stay and you can bet if there ever is vote of any sort where eve is nominated that eve fanbois will rally on their forums and come make new accounts to vote. I remember even dev sort of "rallied" people to vote when there was that best mmorpg award long ago here as he make sticky thread about it and it was on their front page news that eve was nominated.

They should purge all old account ratings, like if account have been created 3months ago, havent logged then clear all votings from that account (keep account, but delete its ratings). Or ratings go away if once account lose that minimal rating what is required for vote (and raise the bar a little). Would be intresting to see what top ranking would look like then. image

The rating system seems ok to me. Can you tell wich of the top ones are more popular then the others? No. Can you tell what the most popular MMO's are? Yeah. I can't think of a way to make it any better even if you raise the level required to "hype", just because people post a million times doesn't mean they are any more qualified than the next guy. Just means they post more.

    Yeah,
great example there, the original poster is pretty much the only one
telling people to go vote for the game and the rest of the thread is
people talking about guildwars or telling him to STFU cause no-one
cares about the rating on here.

Need to rally people to vote second round too (as regular mmorpg.com readers they might forget).

EvE wins on MMORPG.com (literally ganked by eve fanbois).

And there is lot more. Couldnt bother searching older threads.

Our good friends at MMORPG.COM are running a 2005 Readers Choice Award
and EVE Online is nominated in few of the categories there. So if you
want to vote then please do so, we certainly would be grateful.

Since when does the above constitute asking the players to vote, that says "if you want".

I bet that most of these who are telling how much GW suck did come here to vote for their favorite game ever and while at it rank GW low as possible to make eve get rank #1 faster. Did you look my other links or are you continue deny that eve fanbois are trying effect eves rating here?

It's still asking for it or he wouldn't have made whole topic (which was sticky long enough to all fanbois to see it). Imagine if WoW dev made such topic about readers choice, do you think any other mmorpg would had change in it then?

Also you cut rest of hes sentence. It said "So if you want to vote then please do so, we certainly would be grateful." I shouldn't had said he was asking, but begging for eve fanbois to vote..

I copied the quote in it's entirety. Saying they would be grateful is
not begging, it's saying they would be grateful for the support.

It was a single post on the forums by Magnus the head of marketing, who
likely received an e-mail from MMORPG.com staff about the awards and he
posted it on the forums for people to see. I know, it's almost a
foreign concept for developers to post on thier own forums but as you
can see it does happen from time to time. More often in EVE than most.

    You
Bet? You mean you ASSUME. There are about 30 active posters from the
EVE forums here and a few hundred more that read but don't post. The
rest of the population could care less about this site. There's been a
total of 4 threads ever created about MMORPG.com awards or rankings.
The first one by Mxmus (Magnus) for the 2005 readers choice awards, the
2 about the 2006 awards, and the one by Valium Summer which was just a
big GW bashing session and a bunch of people telling him to STFU.

4 threads out of the hundreds of thousands of threads on the board. That's hardly a lot

Too funny! But we all knew Eve's ratings where being manipulated, it's just that we never seen proof of it before. That's just lame.

I sleep with a pillow under my gun.

  • The thing that struck me about the whole thing wasn't that GW was above Eve.  It was that GW:Nightfall and Guild Wars are transposed from what they should be.  Most GW players consider Nightfall the best of the three campaigns.

mmorpg.com definitely needs to do something about this.  everytime i refresh the home page its a new member with
    slkdjfs, asdhkj, from askdjf, vantu

we need an admin to delete all 26 year old males within the last couple hours...

They asked to vote for EVE, period. just by the fact they mentioned "we certainly would be grateful" is the exact same thing as asking to vote. stop being so biased.

    RATEINGS DO NOT MATTER!

    Who cares!

It is a shame.   Who do you blame?  MMORPG.com or is it the community of gamers we have become?

I would have to point a finger at us.

It would be a sad day indeed for me if I begin to feel that I have to lie, cheat, and con the gaming community into believing something that is not true all for my own selfish reasons.

I can afford to buy a game that I thought was good because of the skewed polls only to find it trash, but there are others that can not afford it and they are left waiting for that next birthday card with 50 bucks tucked away in it or a christmas present, or maybe it is simply saving 25 bucks a month for the next 2 months again before they can get a different game.

Shame on those of you that are lieing to us.  Remember or not but what goes around comes around.  Karma is timeless and never forgets. image
