The entire MMO world would benefit from putting it's foot down on shlock like this.  Thankyou, that is all.

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

LMAO.... too funny, but I have to second the motion.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Even though most players dislike Dark and Light cause they fooled the players of the bad graphic engine, and false movie things, it's not removing off the list unless they do something against mmorpg.com, just like what Mourning Online did.

I don't see why there should be a problem removing a game from the list
if it's deemed not good enough to be there.  Of course, that would
be up to whoever makes those sorts of decisions here.  Maybe they
know something we don't?  If I were that person, however, DnL
would be just about at the top of my ditch list.

Considering even MMORPG.com has done an expose' on the travisity known as DnL I agree that at this point it would be wise to just dump it all together.

They sure as hell never qualified for the massive amount of players online part, they barely had enough people online to qualify as multiplayer,so how the hell do you figure that? lol

ABSOLUTELY NOT... this is a horrible idea guys. This is one of the most popular sites for mmo info and people come here regularily to check up on a game before they play it.

Having DnL on this site hurts it way more then if it were to be removed. Anyone that comes to this site and subscribes to DnL despite the horrid reviews and the horde of hate threads, deserves to have their money taken. For others, it serves as a warning.

  • ZorvanZorvan Member CommonPosts: 8,912

They can remove the game info and links without removing the forums. The advertising of it as a game is what we want removed, not the forums. It needs to be taken off the list of games section. And an editorial needs to be written by the staff here explaining why and placed in a prominent area of the DnL forums as well as in news and general discussion. Let the few remaining fanboi's try to spin it then.

no, this site is the only place people are going to hear about D&L. The only reason I even know about most of these games is from this site.  If they take it off this site, nobody will know that this game even exists. Which will be good.

if you put up that argument then the game list will become half of what it is now. there are tons of games that suck but are still on the list. that doesnt mean they get removed. Unless the devs do something wrong with mmorpg.com they will not get blacklisted.

The difference is that those other games haven't done the things DnL has. We're not talking about it's graphics suck or it's gameplay sucks, we are talking about blatant theft and fraud. And these customers/players that have been victimized by Farlan and co. are members of this site, therefore the devs ARE doing something to mmorpg.com= defrauding, stealing, and generally trashing mmorpg.com's customers.

  • tubelighttubelight Member UncommonPosts: 276
www.mmorpg.com is an outlet for thrashing dumb and fraudulent MMO companies. Just because a company cheats its customers mmorpg.com does not get hurt. MMORPG.com can actually hurt the company by posting a news article on the homepage and the company would never see another new player ever.

I feel maybe the list should become half of what it is now.  I feel mmorpg.com should be a site for consumer advocacy; and I think they should achieve this by depriving the garbage projects out there even a simple mention of their name.

I'm tired of watching a bunch of developers, producers, and publishers take the gamers in this market for a ride.  So many of them are guilty of it- and somebody needs to stand up to them.

2006 wasn't just "a bad year" for MMORPGs; it's a signal of decline.

I agree that this is what mmorpg.com should do. But it still needs to be removed as far as advertising it. And when someone searches the gamelist, not the forum list, they are shown screenshots, links to the game, etc., as well as the devs and remaining fanbois can come boost the ratings in the hype area if they wished. That's what needs to be removed. The forum needs to remain. But, at the very least, an official declaration from mmorpg.com denouncing it as the POS it is without worrying about Farlan's feelings would be an excellent start to getting rid of these fraudsters once and for all. There are plenty of pieces of evidence of their misdeeds in the forums to have enough to state as fact against DnL without fear of Farlan being able to sue. Anyway, tubelight, we may be coming from different outlooks, but I think we are both on the same page as far as DnL itself is concerned, so here's to hoping at least SOMETHING can be done::::20::

P.S. I know there's arguments for taking an active route to consumer advocacy by bad mouthing the products you deem inferior; but there's several issues with this that make it less attractive than simply shunning them.

It takes energy to generate bad press.  Instead of expending energy into bad press- you use it to highlight the worthy products.  Those who make worthy products benefit from the business of good press- who go on to make more quality products; raising the bar- and ultimately put the bad guys out of business and everybody wins.

Also- bad press creates controversy.  Controversy creates legal issues.  And one or the other create attention.  I'm reminded here of the expression that any kind of press is "good" press.

lol if they cleaned up the game list and removed all the subpar released games.  It would be so much shorter.  I don't even mean games that suck, but games that are down right horrible.  Here is what the list:

    • A Tale in the Desert III
    • Archlord
    • Anarchy Online
    • Asheron's Call
    • Auto Assault
    • Battleground Europe: WWII Online
    • City of Heroes
    • City of Villians
    • Dark Age of Camelot
    • Dungeons and Dragons Online
    • Eve Online
    • Everquest
    • Everquest 2
    • Final Fantasy XI
    • FLYFF
    • Guild Wars
    • Guild Wars: Factions
    • Guild Wars: Nightfall
    • Hero Online
    • Knight Online
    • Legend of Mir 3
    • Legend of Mir: Three Heroes
    • Lineage
    • Lineage II
    • Maple Story
    • MU Online
    • Phantasy Star Universe
    • Priston Tale
    • Ragnarok Online
    • Rakion
    • Ran Online
    • Rappelz
    • ROSE Online
    • Runescape
    • Ryzom
    • Second Life
    • Shot Online
    • SilkRoad Online
    • Space Cowboy
    • Star Wars Galaxies
    • The Matrix Online
    • The Sims Online
    • THERE
    • Toontown Online
    • Trickster Online
    • Ultima Online
    • Worlds of Warcraft

As you can see the list is so much shorter, and still most of those games suck.  If they even take it further and make the list only of descent games, then it would be shorter then 10.

lol...lets not try to run mmorpg.com out of business :P but still mmorpg.com has very less number of games on the list. for example visit www.mmosite.com they have sooo many games that its not even funny :P

ps: i read yesterday that DnL cheated its customers by charging them for the game even though most had cancelled their accts :o

  • SigneSigne Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,524
I don't see how removing games which have dodgy business practices or
have conducted themselves in an unethical manner would "run mmorpg.com
out of business."  If anything, I should think it would render
them more credible as a legitimate source of information.  I'm not
saying they shouldn't write about these games, as long as it tells the
whole story, good and bad.  In fact, the more people know, the
easier it is for them to avoid deception.  I just think that some
game companies have proven themselves unworthy of any sort of
recommendation... even a bad rating is too good for some.  Anyway,
it's my personal opinion and I wouldn't even attempt to tell MMORPG.com
    how to run their business.

  • IdesofMarchIdesofMarch Member Posts: 1,164

There are a lot of games on the list that are downright awful, but that's one of the reasons this site exists. To provide a place where people can usually get unbiased views or opinions to help them make a decision on a game. We the consumers hold the final judgment in what survives on the list and what does not. If we don't pay for low quality games and we pass them by for something deserving of our time and money, then those games will die out and developers/publishers will realize that it's time to step up their game. That's a whole other discussion though.

I say keep it on the list if you're going to keep half of the games you currently have up. I just accept that the game list isn't exactly a treasure trove, and I have to watch my step for broken glass. But I do think that for players who don't take the time I do to read up on all the various upcoming MMO's out there, that the requirements for a game in development to be placed on the game list should be raised.

While I might agree with you, IdesofMarch, about not removing games are
"downright awful", I think that when one is fraught with deception,
such as Mourning and DnL, it's rather different.  The company
which owns DnL is engaging in acts that I would consider beyond
unethical.  In fact, they seem to be committing acts that sound
illegal to me.  (disclaimer:  I'm NOT a lawyer!)  I'm
not sure they belong on a list of games where people go to find
legitimate entertainment.  When I said "not worthy", I didn't mean
the quality of the game... I meant something more like  integrity.
I wouldn't put John Karr on my list of babysitters, either.

Of course, it's not a big deal or anything.  It's just a list of
games, not an endorsement.  No where does MMORPG.com encourage
people to subscribe to these sorts of games and have allowed numerous
threads to continue which specifically talk about how some of these
games... DnL, Mourning, Horizons... are treading on slippy ground
legally.  At the end of the day, whether or not people refer to
the list to find a game, they should do a bit of research on their own
before they hand over their credit information.  It's not MMORPGs
job to police MMOs.  If your old enough to have a credit card,
you're old enough to protect yourself from scammers.
