Any alternative to Eve?

AralisAralis Member UncommonPosts: 2

Now that CCP have given up even pretending to run Eve fairly - are there any alternatives?

What I'm looking for is an open ended, large scale game.  Must be run consistently and must give a lot of player freedom.  pvp must be meaningful and there must be room for large scale strategic play.

(Eve has all that except they make stupid, unfair and random changes to the rules - and they don't even tell you!  I'm sick to death of it.  (They won't even comment afterwards when caught out.  Player communication is non-existent.))

Are there even any such games on the horizon.  Science fiction would be preferred but not essential.

What specifically are you miffed about?  What change did CCP make?

EVE pretty much is unique in many of the ways you describe.  I would recommend taking a look at Lineage II, which also features a lot of player freedom, meaningful PvP and large scale politics and strategic play between the powerful guilds ... but it's  very, very different game from EVE.

The only games with meaningful PvP are Anarchy Online, Lineage 2,
Shadowbane, and Dark Age of Camelot. Only the middle two are FFA in the
sense that Eve is. I wouldn't really consider either to be as large
scale considering the online players in a given server is only a
    fraction of what Eve offers.

As far as being on the horizon - Age of Conan is your best bet. Darkfall too but its horizon is a little more...distant.

Darkfall's horizon is just that, you walk closer to it and it stays the same distance away.

    Oh no. Not Aralis :(

    What happend? :(

Sadly, there isn't really anything out there. All these games are quite Carebear and don't really offer much in the ways of warfare.

Star Trek Online might be something to look for though. I don't know how much PVP it's going to offer and it won't be out for quite awhile.

Really, most games out are just that GAMES. Where as games like EVE and TDZK focused more around the community driving the world, rather than AI and programs. (If you hadn't noticed, TDZK is quite dead too. Last few times I checked it was 18/1998 Online)

    Star Trek Online
    Darkfall
    Fallen Earth
    Age of Conan
    Pirates of the Burning Sea
^There's all the games you might want to look into. Sadly, none of them have any definite dates yet.

Oh yeah and.... Can I have some of your stuff? :) I'm still poor, if you hadn't noticed.... I never paid back that 25mil. lmmfao.

Edit: And if I know your taste in games like I think I do... Don't waste your money on WoW, Auto Assault, Dark and Light, EQ/EQII, FFXI, Guild Wars, Matrix, Roma, or Star Wars.

You might like Saga of Ryzom however. They have a free trial, which I never got passed. It's not my kinda game. You MIGHT enjoy it and it might be worth a look.
