I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.

So it was just a Fool's joke, then?
If they do an EQ3, I hope they set it 250 to 500 years before the first game. There was nothing like the initial geography. With the awesome Kithicor Forest and the racial starting areas, and EQ3 could be a great hit.
Just take the original geography and make it bigger, fuller, better. Maybe change up the dungeons a tad bit, but just a little.

I don't think they need it. Vanguard will be fine for many years to come.
People are so afraid of change. I liked EQ2's world it was a much different world then EQ1. EQ2 the world was shattered, cultures mingled and races were forced to put asides their differences to rebuild their shattered lands. I loved the fact I could be any race/class combo and not be confined to tired old stereotypes.
Why go back to the same old world again it was done we don't need it again. If they ever do an EQ3 it's better if they made a world radically different again. I guess people like nostalgia, but it gets old quick.

Basically becuase eq1's numbers are larger then eq2's numbers. Also people have stuck with eq1 longer then eq2. Eq1 was so horrible to level in though ............. wonder why people still stay there then over eq2 even casual people like myself?
People dont fear the change, they fear bad change ............... they fear spending money on a game that is not worth it.

I think people stay in EQ1 because of the game world. The original world of Norrath was a world of cultures and racial starting cities. Travelling was partly to see what was over the next horizon, and not always just to grind and level. EQ1's world was beautiful and enchanting, and not just "more undead over the next hill" like EQ2.
"A city with inhabitants is a culture. A city overrun by undead is just another dungeon."
that was a major part of it yes, while traveling could be a pain at times ......... during that travel you had no idea what you would run across. Maybe run into an old tower and think to yourself ......... what is this place for and go check it out you then explore the area and go swim into the lake ........... you find an underwater tunnel!!! you snoop around further to find a dark elf witch and decide to kill her ............ wow she puts up a fight, gonna have to " think " about this kill.
In eq1 even though i hated the leveling, just too slow ......... and some of the other timesinks of the game ......... it slowed everyone down. Made people stop and notice what was going on around them. The world seemed more alive becuase it simply was.
Modern MMO's are just that MMO's, the rpg element is only halfassed in putting roleplaying servers so the users can attribute that aspect of the game.
Another thing why eq1 attracts me more then eq2 is the skill it took to play, every mob was a different fight, needed diff tactics, spells, ect to beat ............. eq2 on the otherhand every mob can be taken on the same way, toe to toe ......... blah it gets old after 70 levels of that.
Eq1 team work meant teamwork, there was no competition of the dps seeing who could pull aggro to look cool, they did that in eq1 there reputation would not allow them to get groups very easy.
Eq1 was a true social game, filled with lore, many discoveries, mature people, and there was always something to aspire too. My necro spent a few weeks just casually killing undead in LGuk just for a quest to have a clicky crown that transformed her into a wood elf. Oh this was great becuase well, faction mattered in eq1 and illusions did help alter faction.
Eq2 was just a major letdown for me and many others according to thier testimonials ......... everything that was great about eq1 didnt make it into eq2 ......... why? all eq2 seems to feel like a basic dungeon crawl in a dead world ..............
To be honest, I really wouldnt be suprized if SOE has a small team creating the basis and skeliton of EQ3. Afterall, it takes what, 5-7 years to complete a decent MMORPG now a days? If my assumption is true, EQ3 will come out around 2013.... Sounds about right.
i think this nails it on the head.

well said. After reading your post, I feel like starting up again in EQ1. Thanks for the inspiration. No game, to date, matches EQ1's feel or allure.
