Update Game Information

kymekyme Member Posts: 411

I have said this before. www.mmorpg.com is misleading mmorpg-players. The reviews, screens and ratings pertain to the pre-cu and cu versions of swg. This site needs to be maintained if it is going to give any valueable or trustworthy information. The effort involved to purge old screenshots, reviews and reset the ratings is trivial. This site is not representing what the current verision of swg is. By leaving this information there about a game that doesn't exist anymore is lying. You are giving a misleading impression of this game and that is lying.

Maybe they should archive them seperate since some people still like looking at them.

Since you posted this message in the "SWG VETERAN Refuge" tells me you are simply trying to get people upset. Go and post your topic in the CURRENT SWG forum where you obviously belong.

I would have to say yes the old reviews, and rateings in the least need to be purged. I cannot argue that they need to make new ones though. Right at this point SWG is firmly in sunset mode. I am sure the execs would argue the point though at some point you have to be critical. At this point it really is up to SOE/LA to prove not just say, but prove that SWG is not a title in sunset. That is a legitimate question, and until it is answered the product is not worthy of official review or rateing. There is no valid reason to review a dead game. There is even less reason to list it.

I think there needs to be a review of what games should be listed on this site, or atleast in which context they should be listed. I am not just picking on SWG. The Matrix Online is another example of a truely dead game. You cannot even buy this game off store shelves anymore, and even right after launch this game had a luke cold population. I can only imagine it is far worse at this point.

I am not sure whether these types of games should be removed from consideration since they are still playable, supported, and available. Though I definately feal they do not belong in the released column. With all the new games comeing, and perhaps even console support in the near future. Now would be a good time to start setting up a archived area. Explicitly for games on the way out. People who visit this board should know up front if a game they are looking at is viable for prolonged play.

SWG always raises questions, but is it a viable game anymore? I think most members of this site would argue its not worthy of consideration. This sites forums alone reflect that this is a game that was, and not a game that is, or will be in the future. Once members decide to talk about a game in the past tense that is a indication that the game is a relic. Once a game is a relic its only value is in historical review. That alone is proof that the game should be listed in some sense as archived.

The state of SWG is pretty obvious. A dead game with mediocre developement. A poor support staff. No real future developements in the work. Not only is there no expansion in confirmed developement, but the last expansion was cancelled. Before that the last expansion suffered a terrible financial flop resulting in mass refunds. The player population by latest reports provided by community members are ridiculously small. The game is in a confessed Beta state. Which implies incomplete.

I would hate to think the only criteria for listing on this site as a valid game is a press release.

Once a game is pay-to-play, I would categorize that as a released product. The archive section is interesting, but really not necessary. As long as a game has at least one subscriber, then it is not yet retired.

What do people use this site for? To research games? When I buy my next mmorpg I will look at the reviews, screenshots, ratings and forums. This site is providing misleading information. How is a new player to know what reviews, screenshots, ratings and forums are no longer relevant. The information needs to be purged.

Of course the decision is not mine to make, however I believe the task of purging old information would be trivial and only better this site.

The OP is not trolling. He is making a pretty valid point about a hypothical situation of a MMO gamer coming to MMORPG.com to learn about SWG and deciding whether to play it.  The section in this site on SWG is chock full of original ratings from Pre - CU when the game was more popular/populous and therefore probably has a higher overall rating than it would garner nowadays.  It also has screen shots from TKA, CH, and other play facets that flat out don't exist anymore.

I agree that the info in MMORPG.com is likely innaccurate at this point, but I doubt that this website has enough editorial staff to go through each game, even games as controversial as SWG, and ferret out old or superceded info.  Players debating on spending their hard earned scratch probably do not have to search too hard to get negative press/reviews of Post NGE SWG...  Lol.

    Maybe you missed this:

    SWG Veteran Refuge
A place for disgruntled former and current SWG players to talk about the game that was and the game that now is, as well as for newcomers who are curious about the issues surrounding the changes that this game has undergone. *Note, MMORPG.com RoC will still be enforced.

    mmorpg should update info better.

But i guess not many game publishers would come here and advertise, if mmorpg put out negative publicity.

so mmorpg has a clear interest in telling us positive things about games.

    brgds
