neither is metal. Whether you think Metal is music or not, it requires more skill to compose and to play. If you disagree then it's probably because you know jack about music. I'm not a fan of metal, but I agree. Rap is not music, it's just people talking fast on a beat that can be produced on a computer in 5 minutes. I think some of you don't know anything about what your talking about, nor know what exactly the word "music" means. I can make music typing on my keyboard. Hip-Hop is music, Rap is music, and metal is music. So they it's not just becuase you dislike it is pure iggnorance. I don't know, but maybe you (one of you) should try to figure out the difference between Rap and Hip-Hop and the culture. I would tell you, but sometimes people don't listen.
Oh yeah, if real beats are recoreded and "composed", that's music. If your phone plays out a polytone song, thats music. If something is lyricly written out and sung with a nice beat, some instruments, or some good ol beatboxing then that's music.
Personally I think the world would be a better place if rap music in general never existed. Then again I've never heard any rap music with any sort of depth or with anything requiring what I consider to be talent. Then again I've never really researched it past the crap pumped out of the mainstream, so I may not be 100% correct here, so I'll just say (with certainty) the world would be a better place without mainstream rap music

Lol. Don't like Hip-Hop aye.Actually I just got 2Pac - Pac's Life the other day. Pretty decent. As for fav group. For me i'll have to say Bone Thugs N Harmony. A close 2nd would be Naughty By Nature.
Agreed. I myself aren't a fan of Hip-Hop either. Give me some good Rock or Pop ANyway, if i had to choose my favorite Hip-Hop group, then i'd choose SnaKey's choices, for the same reason.

Never said hip-hop wasn't music(if you were referring to me that is). Technically, anything that can be transscripted to musical notation would classify as music. And knowing how notation works, just about everything can. What I'm saying though, is that the Hip hop I've heard is always just a pretty simple beat made with either a drumset or with generic computer sounds and then you mix it with repeated and simple computer effects. Just about everybody can do that. Not everybody can compose nor play "Master of Puppets" or "Ironman" to mention a few of the classics.
I'd like to know how much people like 50 cent know about actual music and tones. Can he write/compose musical notation on his music? If he needs anything changed would he say "I think we need cresendo on the whole 58th bar with an accent on the last 1/8 note"? or would he say "Sounds like crap" and then he goes to the mixers to tell em do something about it?

In order to find that out about 50 cent, you would need to do research. One of the things about rap is that it used to be called the "poor man's music". Just as much as Solitare was called "the lonly man's game". No one had instruments so people made a beat and it was more of a lyrical thing than something to focus on a beat. I'm pretty sure there is a composer behind most singers and that goes for every singer without a band. Think about that, there are more singers in many genre's that don't have a band yet they have someone to produce their music.
Some people don't have the talent, some don't have the money, some don't have the time. See you can't pin down somthing such as that without thinking about the bigger picture. I'm sure artist have a say in what they like and what should be changed. You can't spit to somthing you don't like, you can't sing to somthing you don't like, you can't rock out to somthing you don't like. Actually a lot of people don't know what is generated and what isn't.
To even put it in another way, think about video games, Sure game developers such has Besthda(sp?) didn't compose the music for Oblivion, yet they hired a composer to do it for them and give it his point of view so if it's good they both can flow with it. I understand you, but you got to think a little deeper about the situation. Unlike Flava Flav (who knows how to compose his own music, he plays the piano), I'm pretty sure 50 isn't much of a creator in the art of using an instrument, but don't take my word for it, becuase I have no clue.

And this is actually the problem I have with the modern popular music. Behind the singer there's a producer telling the composer what to create, and a composer telling the singer what to sing. Music isn't really personal anymore, which is why, at least I think, everything sounds so bland and just out of the mill. Music on MTV is far more about image than talent, since with todays technology everybody can seem to have talent. To truly tell something with a song, wouldn't you have to have create the song yourself? At least create like the basis for the song, and the let the other composers add details?
Music is missing it's soul. I'm pretty sure Solitare didn't have this problem, since they didn't have MTV backing their ass, as long as they keep their image.
"Some people don't have the talent, some don't have the money, some don't have the time."
If you want to create music you don't have to be rich. If you don't have time nor the talent, I honestly think you shouldn't create music, because then it's just a job. A job you can't do well in my opinion. I'm fairly sure people like 50 Cent can have a say in what should be on his albums. But I'm also fairly sure he doesn't actually compose it. It's more like he writes what he would like and then somebody transforms that into hip-hop. If he doesn't like it, he should be able to say what he doesn't like.
I'm seeing the big picture here. I'm seeing how many people actually have a say in 50 Cents music. I'm seeing how 50 Cent is just a front figure. If they don't need him anymore, they can take anyone off the street and help him make music.
Bethesda doesn't need to be able to compose music because it isn't their job. Their job is to create a game, which is why they can easily have composers create music for them without loosing their image, simply because it's not their job. Furthermore a game is "composed" by several teams/persons:
Game Designers Programmers Project Leaders Sound Creaters 3D modellers Story Writers Game Artist
It's most likely the Game Artists and Game Designers that agree on what kind of music that should be implemented. At the end, what Bethesda is presenting is a game, which is product mixed by a lot of things. 50 Cent should be presenting his music and not himself.
Its true that alot of people don't realize that rap and hip hop are not the same thing. They are two types of styles and unfortunatly rap is usually the one pushed by mainstream radio. Its also true that alot of rap really has no depth or message to it but that can be said about all genre of music. If your looking for depth and a message then I suggest listening to artist like Common. He is one of my favorites and has alot of depth to his rhymes like the one song he did that sounds like he is talking about a woman but is really talking about hip hop and everything that has happened to it over the years.
For anyone to say that any type of music is not music just because they don't listen to it is immature and need to realize that the world doesn't revolve around what they think. All types of music is enjoyed by someone and if not, it wouldn't exist. Grow up an stop being so damn self centered.
What's the difference between Rap and Hip Hop then?
With respect to Fifty Sents, he makes the music the way he wants, and then his manager sends a copy out on spec to a shed load of producers who all remix it and the record company then prints the ones they like best.
