in Final Fantasy XI
I'm thinking about returning, after playing FFXI about 2-3 years ago. Would I still have my old toons from before I quit? I've heard someone say that they delete your toons after 3 months after canceling?(though that didn't make much since) image

    By now, your character has long sense been deleted.

    Any idea why they delete characters that we payed for? It kinda makes me mad, I'm defently not gonna go back and start all over.

    My guess cost and  the way the game was written..what level was your character?

    46WM and 3 other classes lv30+.

    How much could keeping a character on file actialy cost? Plenty of free mmo's do it, if not every mmo.

    Heres the thing not everyone pays attention to. They dont just go up and delete your character right at the 3 month mark. Its just that its guranteed to be there for 3 months. Ive quit and come back many times once for over 9 months and my character was still there when i decided to give it another try. So what i would say is since playonline is free go on and check if you can purchase the ID that your char was on it might still be there but the thing is its not guranteed.

    Thats because After the first Return to Vana'diel program it was changed to 1 Year. But as the OP stated he played 2-3 Years ago. His characters are long since delted.

    FFXI is the first MMORPG that SE has ever done, So they don't have a lot of the things other MMORPG's have. Such as moving characters accross servers, Sage Sundi never concidered this untill somone mentioned it during an interview.

    So if I quit in March of this year would they keep the char alive for 1 year or still just 3 months??

    This may not be true, if you are coming back for the first time, your toon should be there thanks to the return home event. Also now i believe that instead of 3 months its a year... As long as you have your old keys you should be alive.

    I hear the best way to keep your account w/o paying the monthly is to keep a tetra master account

    Well Im not entirely sure that was because of the return home program. The 9 month long period of time i was speaking about was from march 2004 - december 2004. If im not mistaken that program wasnt innacted until june of 2005. I may be wrong though I'll have to look into it. All im saying is why not give it a try it MIGHT still be there.

    The only way to log in and see is through the game? Can't find any where on their site to log in, no forums?

    Probably not, 2-3 years is a long time to have your toons sitting there.  I'm sure they've been deleted by now.

    Yeah, I really don't think they'd still be there but you can always check.  Maybe they got overlooked?

    from what i heard your characters stay with SE but just all your in game equipment and items get deleted...I do know someone on my server that was able to log onto their account but was stripped all his loot, which is probably the hardest thing for SE to keep hold of if you think of it.


    Here's a lockpick, it might be hand if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

    Sounds more like his account was stolen while he was away, and stripped. Incrediblly, Its happend quite a few times.

    Yeah... SE completely wipes out your account after about 3 months (i think) of not paying.
