I picked up a copy of Massive magazine a week ago. Its a brand spanken new magazine. Theres an article in it thats got some goodies on Vanguard:Saga of Heroes. I quote "The atraction of Vanguard is very simple:Its old school online role-playing from the guy who gave you the original Everquest. Brad McQuaid is the reason the game has a lot of people giddy with anticipation. Brads the guy who specializes in tropes that are challenging(some would say sadistically so); the master of the corpse drag; the apostle of the death penalty;the champion of the"If it doesnt hurt to get it, its not worth anything' style of game design. While saying that sigil wants to avoid tedium, Mcquaid is very clear on one thing: He thinks curent games are to easy. Vanguards apeal, then, is largely to those who agree, who view World of Warcraft as MMO lite, and who react violently to every player aid added to games like everquest 2."
This title is rocking! Some one said its going to take up 30 gigs! Thats half my laptops hardrive. Ah well maybee ill just have to deleate some useless system processes or my "ALL PROGRAMS" folder or better yet some of those pesky drivers people are always refering too. Altho I cant complain much seemings how these new 1 terabyte hard drivers are aviailbe now for fairly cheap. For people that dont know 1 terabyte is the equal to 1024 gigabytes as stated in only the best site/url/addy on the internet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page.
A terabyte (derived from the prefix tera-) is a measurement term for data storage capacity equal to 1024 gigabytes, i.e. one trillion (short scale) bytes. It is commonly abbreviated TB.
The number of bytes in a terabyte often varies in common usage originating from a discrepancy between the tradition to use binary prefixes for computer memory and the SI standard.
According to the SI standard, a terabyte (TB) contains
According to traditional usage for computer memory a terabyte contains
It is recommended to use the term tebibyte (TiB) for this latter amount.
The capacities of computer storage devices are traditionally advertised using their SI standard values.
You accualy paid to read that?
Uhh, I clicked on the second link here and I became very sad.. actually it ruined my day XD. Seriously tho.. I downloaded it and its horrid. The characters were crappy looking, the armor the weapons the mobs... all crappy lookng.. not to mention the fire magic the mage cast looked like spitballs from mario brothers or something XD. The background looked good, almost like a picture or something, but I'd prefer the character movement and abilities and spells and stuff look better. If this is what you poor EQ people have had to put up with, I feel for ya, looks like this game could have been made in 1990.. which is why it saddens me.. this is really the only upcoming game im looking forward to besides Darkfall and Trials of Accention, neither of which will actually ever be released.
Sometimes I hate that I played FFXI, it has ruined so many other games for me, because it spoiled me. It's seriously just awsome, everything I could want in a game.. its just that after 3 years of playing, I'd like a lil bit of a mix up. What I really wish is that SE would just come out with like FFXIII or somthing, that would be awsome. I dunno what to do now, I got FFXI back to hold me off til Vanguard came out.. but I'm not playing something I think is poorly made. If I have a cool sword, I want it to look cool.. same with armore and definatly mobs. If I cast a fire spell.. dont throw a damn fireball that is just a orange blob at the mob XD. I hope someone tells me that its just because they are not finished or somtning along those lines, because I would not enjoy a game I dont like to look at... Mario Brothers was fun, but after so many spit balls I would just jump on thier heads XD.
Alot appears to have changed during B3.
Currently Playing: GW2
Currently Following: Elder Scrolls Online
Games in my wake: Anarchy Online, Archlord (beta), Asherons Call, Asherons Call 2, City of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot (SI to Catacombs), DDO, EVE Online, EverQuest II (beta), Guild Wars, Horizons, Lineage II,LORTO, Rift, RF Online (beta), RYL, Saga of Ryzon, Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard, WAR, WoW
Who can belive that this is actualy going to take up 30 gigs! Thats insane. Has there been any previous title that takes up half of this. Iv yet to see it if there has. Wow takes up nearly 4 gigs.. and SWG if i remeber correctly took like 2 and some change. Im not sure what kinda content there is that requires 30 gigs of space altho I did get a chance to check out some xtreamly tricked out beta content not to long ago right here on this forum and the level of detail is outstanding. 30 gigs outstanding iv yet to determine!
Stop listening to people who have no idea what they are talking about.

As far as your issues with anything over 10g.. well.. I don't know what to tell you fella. You don't need to be a statistics expert or CS major to understand that as video games advance they tend to take up more disc space. If you aren't prepared to handle this reality, perhaps you should look for a new hobby.. because it will only get worse for you. I promise.
or.. you could always play Maple Story. I hear the client is a very reasonable size.

I supose all the terabyte hardrives being sold are giving reason for more hardrive space to be taken up in softwares. But I only have a Laptop hardrive, not these mamoth server raid Hard drives.
18 or 30 gigs...its all the same...who can link me a game thats over 10 ?
and the problem with this is?
Or it could mean bloated code that runs like garbage.
Won't know till the game hits the shelves. Or until the NDA is lifted, and people start posting reviews, videos, etc.
The size of video game clients has been growing steadily for over 3 decades now.
If your setup can not handle a game.
The problem is with your setup.
Not with the game.
Don't get me wrong.
I would love to never have to upgrade my system.
But when the time comes to upgrade.
I will do it the dignified and emotionally mature way.
No threads.
Good luck to you in the future of Gaming.

We will know when the game hits shelves and not before.

Well, you seemed pretty certain that 10 tons of code = good. I was simply pointing out that it could also be bad.
As to not knowing until the game hits the shelves, well, I believe I said that already. Though truthfully some of us will know before then, but that's neither here nor there.
I think you might be reading into whatever certainties I may or may not hold.
And 'some' of 'us' know how large a beta client is as opposed to a retail client. And how a debugging code differs from a retail code. And 'some' of 'us' could explain it better to you if 'some' of 'us' weren't explicitly bound by a very serious and binding NDA, but that my friend - truly is - neither here nor there.
I'd love to continue this discussion when it becomes appropriate to do so.
cheers.

How about you actually read this guys post instead of picking on him. Hes not complaining about his crappy laptop, he is commenting that he thinks this is the first game that will use more than 10 gig of disk space.
LotRO will tank. Well, relative to what the expectations are for the LotR IP.
It's DDO with an overmap.
Vanguard will not really be competing with WoW. Yes, there are some mmo vets that will leave WoW for the new shiney. Moreso the high end raid guilds, in all likelyhood. Will they stick around? Some, yes. The vast majority of the WoW players, those for whom WoW is their first game? Not so much. A few that really got hooked on the MMO thing might migrate over due to word of mouth. But the bulk of them haven't heard of Vanguard, AoC, WAR, or probably even the games that preceded them. And in all likelyhood, they don't care, either. They picked up WoW based on the Blizzard/Warcraft brand, and most likely because a friend(s) played it.
If there's a game out right now that needs to worry about losing it's playerbase, it's EQ2. Alot of EQ Live refugees landed there, hoping to find a next gen EQ, but were dissapointed. I think Vangaurd is going to be a big draw for them. AoC, and Warhammer will be WoWs big competition more than anything.
And Eve will keep chugging along, unknown to the world as always.
