these videos gave me more of a feel for the game than anything i've seen before

i hope they aren't trying to do a carbon copy of the eve systems - eve got real boring for me. there's only so many npc's you can kill, so many roids you can mine, so many trades you can make, before you get brain damage.

dont't get me wrong - i think eve's economy is awesome - but to earn enough money in eve to get decent enough equipment to give me a fighting chance in one of the very short pvp engagments - i have to <see above> for literally days

even though the devs say they have catered for all tastes - will i really be able to transfer some of my skills and friends i have made by playing games like WW2OL and Operation Flashpoint into this game ?  Or will they make money making the new grind - and turn my friends off ?

Just give me enough cash to get a decent rifle - a couple of mags - my buddies on teamspeak and a mission to kill another group of players.  We'll see what this game is made of.

I can only say I'm encouraged by the attitude of the devs to other gameplay issues. They seem to have a solid grasp of what makes for fun gaming and that's what's driving the development.

But I join you in hoping not to see the kind of repetitive time-sinks that so many mmos resort to to keep players playing. What I hope to see instead is a dynamic community where player actions impact on the gameworld. That's the key element that I think is missing from most mmos that would keep players playing without having to resort to mindless time-sinks or dinky player reward systems.

Even if they did have a economy like in Eve the game would have far more stimulus then Eve because your a human. You have alot more to look at and interact with. Generally speaking if they had resources factionally controlled everyone on a faction would have access to the resource in question but the a said guild would glean the most benifits. Mind you thats a subjective view of whats possible.

Precisely how clans and factions interact is one of those key details Icarus don't seem to have touched on. It's clear that faction is important for pvp, but they've also said players can play the game without joining a faction.

Up until I saw these vids and realised that pvp seems entirely faction based I'd assumed that player clans wouldn't be limited to members of a single faction. Now I wouldn't care to bet on that.

Nor have they made any claims about resource collection inside the pvp zones - though given their stated of aim of creating a gameworld where engaging in pvp is completely optional I would assume that resources won't be controllable (unless there are special pvp resources of some kind).

Based on the limited information we have the closest I can imagine to what you've suggested is clans owning land near certain resource areas, making collection easier for them.
