I don't think you're going to find something quite like that out there now. In Guild Wars your pet is one you go and find for yourself and it levels along with you. DAoC has some pretty interesting pet classes as well but you don't go off and find you're own. What you're looking for is something pertty specific though and I don't have a ton of experience with pet classes since I usually play heroes but from the way it sounds GW is your best bet for something like that. Rangers get a specific line of spells/abilities made specifically for you and your pet.

I would love that too, however I think your best bet is to build a time machine so you can go back and play SWG.  Man I miss BE/CT

Hero Online has a very good pet system along the lines you are looking for. Unfortunately, that is pretty much its only strong point.

World of Warcraft if you must have animals that you can find out in the wild...

Anarchy Online and City of Villians for just plain games that have good pet classes.

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

City of heroes/villains have pretty ok pet classes, but they're "summoned" and not "trained". They're also not "pet" pets, but in the form of thugs, robots, aliens, zombies, ninjas, that sorta thing.

You can raise pets in Lineage 2, but it's very very hard and takes a ton of money and time, you need to be established in the economy to even think about it. The trained pets are mostly utility (novelty, transport, healing, etc) but there are pet classes which have some unique abilities through summoned pets. The pet classes are also able to use their pet-related abilities on trained pets.

World of Warcraft, Hunter class, exactly as you have described you wish.

A good game til you reach lvl 55 or so, then the flawed PvP and forced raiding ruins it.

Daoc has by far the most and funniest pet classes to play imho. but then again daoc is getting old and dieing slowly, so it would not be a good choice

I have said this before, but I think a MMO game -- could actually be like old SWGs system alone.

(However) then I thought of all the nicknames that would come with it...

Like "Pokemon" Online or  "The Poke ball kids Online" then I kinda change my mine..( heh )

Beast Master ONLINE!!!   there ya go..

SWG was very very special with that system back then,  I was a CH and Ranger for my first profs.. no doubt it was a great experience in a game.  Of course this is gone to now due to the NGE crap.

I do think that there could be a game of nothing but pets and owners doing battles but it just sounds so Pokemonish that I am not sure what to think.
