If even fanbois can't post the threads anymore, then what is this world comming to!?
At any rate, its a good idea. More players means more fun, and with the low quality free to play titles around the market so far, ArchLord stands a good chance.
This is entertaining. I shouldve put money on this way back when i said this game wont last very long being releeased in its current state.

Originally posted by tigris67 I read the whoile thread and it didn't give me any reasons as to why it went Free? any one want to fill me in?
I don't think the reasons were given because they may have been negative things that forced this decision, such as a very low subscription base. It was mentioned that they wanted more players, and making the game free will probably bring new players in. I have a feeling that Codemasters is starting to do something like what other companies with multiple games out are doing - taking losses on one game while covering those losses with a more successful one in their lineup. However, being the publishers and not the game developers, I don't really understand how it all works. Anyway, another free game is a good thing. I still won't buy the boxed game until it's on the bargain shelves, though.
A few months ago I did a thing where I played a few MMOs for a month as if I was a total MMO newbie and then explained which one would have gotten my subscription money if it had been a trial. I did L2, DDO, and AL. I wound up picking L2 because its production quality was high and I had a good time. I really wanted to like AL (it was in the final weeks of its beta) but it had too many translation errors and bugs at the time and could not stack up to L2 (which is very polished for an import MMO that isn't FFXI).
I have been thinking about doing the same thing with the free MMOs. I would pick a few and approach them like a totally new player would then write up which one I would stay with. This could give me a chance to revisit AL and see how it turned out after release. Maybe Shadowbane, AL, and another. Might wait for 2Moons and 9 Dragons (why is it that 2Moons doesnt get a space and 9 Dragons does?).

It has nothing to do with quality, Cash shops are getting used more and more. I wrote a thing about it in my blog, you might be intrested.
facts dont need backup my friend
As much as i hate agreeing with gameloading..
What facts show that freegames are bad? Just seems like nonsense.. maybe you should go back inline with the players who assume all korean games suck, and world of warcraft is innovative.
The game was decent.. but it had item shop written all over it. If the game went free, with item shop to begin with it would probably be doing much better.

MMORPG = Mostly Men Online Roleplaying Girls

2 reasons:
1: The game was doing horrible. There was a serious lack of subscribers, the world was pretty empty
2: Cash shops are hot these days. We see games like Maple Story and Silkroad outperform some p2p games by far.

dont make my say I told you so?
You told me what? o.o

Well obviously Archlord didn't went F2P because it was a very good and popular game.

Yeah, but games not doing to well has nothing to do with quality. look at the Saga of Ryzom, fine game, bankrupt. E&B, fine game, closed down.
Sick today. Could not go to school. I need something to do.
Ah, wait...you actually need to buy the shit game in order to play it for free?!
What a scam!

I never played it.. But I can understand how that game would have poor business.
For one, there are only 3 races and like, 9 classes. Yay for diversity.
For two, it's one of those click to move games. Clicking to move takes away immersion, as well as encoumbers pvp, imo.
Clicking to Move is one of, if not the MAIN reason Korean games are generally thought of as crap.
