Sony Online Entertainment and Sigil Games Online today announced the arrival of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes pre-order boxes in select retailers. The boxes should be available starting December 5th, depending on the retailer.
The culmination of years of work in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes would not have been possible without its strong community support. In the homestretch before launch, the pre-order program is a perfect way to gear up for the impending release, and gain access to a few goodies as well.
The pre-order box includes the following:
You can pick your pre-order boxes at the following retailers GameStop, Best Buy, Frys as well as a few other valued retailers.
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes immerses players in a rich, seamless fantasy world filled with mystery and intrigue. The only limits are your own in the world of Telon, where the adventurous can choose from multiple paths of exploration within the three spheres of advancement, Adventuring, Crafting, and Diplomacy. Players can delve into the mysteries of Telon, and embark upon quests to slay monstrous beasts locked deep inside rugged mountain ranges. Those with a quick mind can use diplomacy to convince kings to move armies and change the course of history. With player-crafted boats, flying mounts, and customizable player housing, Vanguard offers players a world of their own choosing.

*Sniff* I wish they would wait a little longer.
Vanguard has been in prodution for so long, and they have yet to make money of it, afaik, i suppose it is a good idea, but if they plan on release (launch) soon, next month or whatever, i predict that it will be the same as the EQ2 launch, all over again. :-/ People will get bitter and angry.
I am hoping the best for Sigil, and maybe this way will make a much more smoother launch for the game, have some people come in early, and then release it to everyone.
Can't wait to play the damm game, so i won't complain anymore, i just hope it is something new, and not a remake of EQ or WoW.
Content is - B-Q
What the hell this means?
They set the release date or what
When is launch than ?

Money IS an issue but they just don't seem to learn that releasing games early actually costs them money in the end.
But this sure as hell smells like a launch announcement to me.
And as i said it before.
Sony would do anything to launch Vanguard before Burning Crusade hits the shelves.
Doing otherwise would mean losing big chunk of potential customers : people that played WoW , got bored, looked for another MMO but didnt find any good enough, bored looking for something to buy,
1. Ok there is a new game called Vanguard
or
2. Ah Burning Crusade is out. Ok lets give WOW another shot
And once you start playing a MMO , most tend to stick to it.
So it will literally be a very important issue at Sony HQ

There IS a tentative release date of January 29th in some of the retail stores. But we all know that these change about 99% of the time.
Here's the deal: Burning Crusade was scheduled to come out before Thanksgiving (Nov.) but was pushed back because they wanted to beta test it a little more. Riiiiiiight. Think about it, you get 10 more levels, some new zones and more instances- should take about 2-3 months for a top knotch guild to burn through this (JUST in time for Vanguard release).
So Blizzard pushed back (my own opinion) Burning Crusade to have people looking at the expansion instead of a new game. So why not drown out the competition? You can make more money that way. Release date is set for the 17th while Vanguard's release date is set for the 29th. Makes sense to me.
So all of you fellow gamers out there have a choice- pick up the expansion and come into Vanguard later (if you are interested) or just go straight to Vanguard. Personally, I cancelled my Burning Crusade subscription because of the price $39.99- no way I'm paying that much for an expansion (DAoC had better expansions for HALF the price) when I can wait and spend $10 more to get a NEW gaming experience. I can wait.
A 2-4 week open beta is likely. World of Warcrafts was 2 weeks, right? I bet it helped them pound out TONS of problems. VG better have a solid open beta or else their release will be just as laggy and DC filled.
I also hope that VG plans well for the initial load. This means having enough servers for people to disperse amognst.
The forums on VG.com also need a HUGE revamp. WoW did forums right, VG will hopefully work off of their example.
I am officially a VG fanboi, I wish them many luckies. :P
I don't really agree with what some of you are saying about the timing and strategy of sales/pre-orders. A pre-order box is something ordinary for a mmorpg these days. Heck, most games, regardless of genre, have pre-orders and even pre-order boxes available before launch.
I don't think Blizzard or Sigil/SOE are fussing with release dates in order to gain the upper hand. These two companies currenty have excellent mmos out, and I think they are trying to compete with eachother in terms of their respective games' content and fun, not on when it will be released.
Its my opinion that Blizzard is taking more time to fine tune and perhaps add more content, and I think that Sigil needs a lot more time before releasing Vanguard: SoH, but that's not to say that I disagree with a pre-order box. For fans like me, it's a welcome thing.
And from what I've heard 70% of the beta testers are unhappy about the state of the game as of now. SWG anyone?
YOU KNOW THAT I LOVE CAKE
Its not 70% its more like 80% most of the guild are not playing anymore but im still doing my job and testing in vanguard. Seem more and more players are leaving couse its feeling more like everquest I. That's the path their heading now, we dont like it so what's the point of use if their not even listening to use (the testers).
My collector edition pre order was cancelled new is LoTR.
Once the game goes open u will see a big difference the dev are always on giving aswers they know who they need to impress. (the testers)
LOTR...lol

always nice to see a troll doing his chores...
once you've finished here, come and clean my room
The client is pretty huge, think several MMO installs combined.
Haven't logged into beta for over 3 months, so can't say how its doing.
When I was playing, it was hard to find anyone to group with, but if you did the levels came very quickly...maybe most of the player base max leveled and burned out?
Exactly. It took 6 expansions for me to leave EQ, about 4 or 5 issues to leave CoH, EQ2...2 expansions, I'm not even going to try Burning Crusade, never tried Guild Wars additions.
I think many of us are starting to see the mmorpg formula and getting bored with it sooner and sooner, if they are smart, they should know it won't take long for people to bore of BC and move on. That would be the best time to release Vanguard, and if the timing is right, they will have the market hooked.
Besides, that gives them more time to polish and insures a strong release in numbers and in game performance which should equal longevity.
Well if you've the option why not log in again and take another look.
I've been watching this for a short time compared to most but even I've seen alot of changes in that timeframe.
Currently Playing: GW2
Currently Following: Elder Scrolls Online
Games in my wake: Anarchy Online, Archlord (beta), Asherons Call, Asherons Call 2, City of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot (SI to Catacombs), DDO, EVE Online, EverQuest II (beta), Guild Wars, Horizons, Lineage II,LORTO, Rift, RF Online (beta), RYL, Saga of Ryzon, Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard, WAR, WoW
The game is a clone, a clone of WoW, which was a clone of EQ1, but without the cartoony graphics.
It lacks immersion and playability. And the combat is horrible.
Hoped for so much, but it just didnt deliver.
However, SOE have now loaned Sigil some of their EQ2 developers for the next 6 months, so hopefully they will be able to turn it around somewhat. But, you know your going badly wrong if you have to resort to having SOE take over your development!!
