Everquest2 Graphics issue!

Hello, Just bought Everquest2: Echoes of Fawdyer (which includes all the games) and after installing and created the account? starting up the game I have a problem. First of all I thought it was because the graphic setting were low but I checked it out and found that the setting were correct! ?????

I checked the resolution and that was correct so why does it look all bad? I played the trial and it looked fine so why is it liked this? The weirdiest thing of all is that I can turn the Graphic Settings to max and it looks exactly the same and theres no performace interference?

It basically looks weird, the characters look very pixelixed?

Can anyone help me with this? makes no sense? I have tried full screen and window mode but still the same! character models don't look right and all... Theres two links to picks I took below? Please help!

  • I would ask on the official forums but for some reason they don't allow me to post topics. I have vaiirified my email address three times now but still keeps asking me to do that.

Try turning on AA and AF.  There is no control for this in the game so you need to set it up in your video drivers, the exact procedure differs from card to card.

  • I've done that but it still doesn't look right, very pixelized! it makes no sense that I can turn everything up to extreme quality! something can't be right! even though I do have a 7800GS  Graphics card?

I'm afraid to say I don't see any issues with those screenshots. Possibly a larger version would help. Plus, something outside of character selection window might be a little easier to judge.

  • I know, it's hard to excplain but from a distance the character look very pixelized on my screen, it doesn't make sense especially considering that I could only have medium settings on the trial? how come I can know have maximum on the same game?

I currently don't want to make a full character yet because if I don't like it I would have wasted my in-game CHopter thing! if you know what I mean!

Very strange. I see whats wrong. It looks like the characters are on low settings and they're not. I don't think it's the game, it's your video card. Try updating the drivers.

What video card do you have btw? If it's an older one, that might be the problem. Or it might not. If nothing works, maybe you should talk to the manufacturer.

  • it's not that old, it's an nvidia 7800GS and it seemed to work fine for me when I played the Trial? so whats wrong now?
  • I'm currently reinstalling the game to see if that fixes it!

I had the same problem when installing the game for my wife.  Also, after the release of EOF, soe did something to their video drivers, or the "default" setting for your display.  Here is what i did to fix the problem.

-Even though my drivers were up to par, i still downloaded and installed my video card drivers again

-When in game, click the EQ2 button, Options, Display - then click the DEFAULTS button on the bottom.  It will ask you if you want this resolution, hit YES.  After it saves, then go back in and ONLY change your resolution to what you want.  I use 1280 x 9something 75Hz.

-afte you have done this, then and only then change your video settings to your desired display.  Extreme Performance, High Performance, Balanced, High Quality, Extreme Quality.

-accept your changes then log out of EQ2, reboot and log back in.

This worked great for me when i did this, and have had no problems since.  SOE is always changing or 'tweaking" their UI, so the DEFAULT is always diffrent, or so it seems.  I always reset my display setting to DEFAULT weekly, then simply change my resolution afterwards.  always seems to work.

-EDIT:  This also works when im having problems with lag...just follow the same steps and it works fine!  Hope this helps you out.

  • thanks for that Zandwarf, I'll inform you if it worked in a hour or two when I have time to try it out! hope it works.

I will download my drivers again and install them.

    Thanks again for the information.

No problem bud, and im almost positive that will fix your problem.  Good luck, and let us know if your still having problems.  I might have to resort to my "SOE Fixes For Dummies" manual, but im sure we will get it fixed =/
  • I'll have to get a copy of that ''SOE Fixes For Dummies'' manual, see if it as anything about fixing Star Wars Galaxies..... :-)

Oh one more thing, how did you get that EQ2 Player signature, is it part of the extra add-ons you can get for a price?
  • hey Zandwarf, did what you said and worked perfectly, best of all I can play the game on max settings..... never thought I could do that.

Anyway, thanks a lot. Where would we be without the ''SOE Fixes For Dummies'' Manual.....

    Glad i could help!

As for the signature, you can pick one up if you have a EQ2 account here EQ2 SIGNATURE

Just select Charecters, Then Forum Signatures

It will ask you to sign in, then it will give you a link.  Just past the link in your signature box here a mmorpg.com and change the <> that eq2 adds in to [ and ]
