My friend is finaly joining the beta so I might do some PK hunting with him to extract some revenge. But what I'm really wanting to see in the pvp aspect of the game is the clan wars and seiges and such. When will that come about? Not just a random killing spree.
Lineage 2 is good even in the close beta stage. (better then most retail games of the moment). Devs said that close beta has less then 1/3 of the content it will have in retail. Not to mention the free addons it will offer twice a year for free (also smaller or bigger patches with important updates beside bug fixing). I hate games that make u pay for an addon. The montly fee should be enough... getting greedy scares customers. anyway... best graphics i've seen so far in a mmorpg, best music i've heard so far in a mmorpg. (bill brown rox http://billbrownmusic.com/ ). very well balanced classes, great pvp system, great party system, best npc AI i ever saw. Sure u can say it has some bugs but its closed beta.. they didnt patch anything yet. I find the game excelent and worth playing so i will surely play it in realease. (sorry for the bad english im still learning).
Well I've been playing in the closed beta of L2 and have decided to cancel my FFXI subscription. I haven't been having fun in FFXI recently for NUMEROUS reasons, which have been hit on by several converts on this site, and can't justify paying for a game I don't enjoy 100%. I HATE being forced to group and this game has given me release. That, by far, is the number 1 reason I dropped FFXI.
Is it worth it??? Well it's only Prelude in Beta testing so IMHO it's already better for me.
I have played both FFXI and Im in the L2 beta, have been in it for some time now.
And I choose L2 over FFXI anytime, I have several reasons.
I don't like the job swapping in FFXI, I prefer to have one class.
Better fighting system.
Nicer enviroment to run around in and cooler mobs.
Etc.

You guy's have convinced me. I'll install the lineage 2 beta I downloaded yesterday....and if I get bored I'll install the FFX whatever I bought 2 months ago and never took out of the box (was enamored with Horizons and holding out hope for AC2 at the time).

Ive tried Lineage 2, in both korean beta and us beta, and to be honest, im not impressed.
Ups:
Great graphics
Great sound
Smooth (not that laggy)
Downs:
Horrible chat system
Lacking pvp
Point and click combat (diablo style)
Movement is akward (probably better with FPS view in the open beta)
Crafting? Huh?
Role playing? No thanks, let me munch some more quests and phat items.
Nah, I'll be waiting for a better game to come up, a realistic real life game or near futuristic, with roleplaying beein a important part of the game. Let the actual intteraction between people be the crackpipe, not the timesinks and farming.

I see this complaint for so many games and it irritates me. Roleplaying is word that means a million different things to a million differnet people. Webster's dictionary defintion for roleplaying is: "An instance or situation in which one deliberately acts out or assumes a particular character or role".
For me L2 if fine with roleplaying. Going along with my race's (Dark Elf) hatred for elves and human, we confront all of them that enter our "realm". Asking such things as "What business have you here?" or "Do not foul our lands with your presence, begone!". You have to MAKE the game what you want it. If you want a game that leads you by the hand to roleplay, it isn't going to happen.
