Does anyone see this coming?

I was just thinking about this the other day. I saw a post here regarding people opinions on a Harry Potter MMO. I researched and discovered this idea has been attempted twice, both times by EA (or related to EA), under the name Hogwarts online, then to Harry Potter Online. The title was scratched in 2005.

I was thinking about this and then it dawned on me that PERHAPS the folks down at EA did this for marketing reasons? Perhaps wait till the release (Or near the release of) the very last Potter movie, that way they can market it at the same time. Just a thought I had.

Very true it is story driven, but then again so it LoTR and now LOTRO is all about story. And yea, I dont think it would stop EA, as long as they are milking the money, and there is quite a lot of money to milked from a Harry Potter MMO.

Developers seem to mistake story and universe.

LotR and Harry Potter are great stories, but there is just not enough universe and atmosphere there to create a semi-unique experience for each player.

I thought Rowling wouldn't sell the rights to her universe to make an MMO?

Difference between Harry Potter and Star Wars is that Star Wars has more then just one look at that univerise. There are the moveis for Starwars of course. But then there are lot and lots of books the devle in it more. Right now all Harry Potter has is an unfinshed book seris focusing on mainly one boy and his friends.

Maybe after the seris is done and maybe if they do more novels set in the Harry Potter universe, but not at Hogwarts it would be possible.

    ROFLMFAO!!!!!!

Read the books man! LOTR has pretty much the biggest, deepest, universe of anything ever written.  Tolkein STARTED with the Elven languages, and then wrote the Silmarillion (a freaking history textbook on Middle-Earth) to explain the history of the Elves.

I agree with the above. Tolkien created a whole universe, added history, family tree's, dates and events that happened before LOTR. He created languages!!! I think the LOTR universe is very deep...

But I agree that the Potter universe is very narrow and is about one boy and his friends...but I am sure that whatever team (if any) trys tackling this, they will get around that obstacle.

I concede on the LotR part, it has history and universe but it is all spread out over a large timeline, and most MMORPGs are set at one point in time (even if they don't stay true to that time line, yea I'm looking at you SWG).
