Has anything at all been changed to make FFXI better or to pursuade me to come back to it? Yeah Its a really simple question but who could blame me?

You should start by stating why you left.

Good point. I left because of the controls and because I got lost alot, and forced grouping was an all time bad.

What Race and Class were you, you might want to try different combinations to fit your liking. Also forced grouping is a lil bit of a pain at first but once you get around the mid-level range, you know everyone around you (even us introverts) There are boring and frustrating times, but I siggest to take a break, and play when you feel like.

I would have to say, don't start again.  ALOT of ppl I know have left the game and it's EXTREMELY hard to get into lvls 35+ unless you have the time to sit and wait for a couple hours for an invite.

I say no, dont do it.  I cant say why due to the NDA's but I know of games coming out that are much better.  FF's grouping and controls still make people wanna quit.

I used to hate getting parties from levels 10-25... Call me crazy, but it seems the higher the level the more parties there are, which means better chances of getting in. I'm also a warrior, possibly the worst class for partying and i haven't waited any longer than 15 minutes now. As for the controls, they just take a week or so to learn then it is a whole new game your playing.

One thing i find is most people quit because the lower levels are the most boring. Now that i am level 30 so much has opened up to me. Flying airships, riding chocobos everywhere, great community to help you, and the partying is much more fun at higher levels just because there is cooler spells and whatnot, you start getting into renkai's with your PT.

Anyways, totally up to you Kiamde. But if you do join, my server is lakshmi image

Arg these idiots who say, wait until level 30 and the game starts getting fun...  Thats so retarded, who wants to waste 30 levels of boredom just to start enjoying a game.  I've seen people say this on almost every FF board.  A game should be exciting from the beginning or at least by lvl 10-15, once past the tutorials or beginning stages.  Seriously, if someone tells you, "well the game kida sucks for the first 30 lvl's" thats really not going to interest anyone.

I agree.  Why waste time playing through 30 boring levels for the possibility of a fun job after that?!  My main character is a lvl 36 white mage, 17 black mage, 15 thief and 9 beastmaster and I've been playing since the game's release.  I've been doing the SAME thing for the last 36 levels as a white mage...it's no different.  And having to wait for parties and being forced to party, which is one of the number one reasons people leave the game (polls taken on other gaming sites), is not feasible for a good portion of the MMORPG community.

I am on Fairy. I met two nice people my level and we have been grouping alot through the hard levels. I learned how to fish and I learned the controls in about 1 hour, not one week.

Oh, so you're the token forum jackass...I'll make note of that.  I'm a white mage BECAUSE I'm forced to party.  I made the best of a bad situation.  The only job that has a chance at soloing worthwhile mobs is the beastmaster.  And to preempt a witty comeback, if you're able to easily get parties at later levels, you're damn lucky or I'm unlucky.

if you left because of the controls you should just stop playing video games.

I like the controls. The camera is my only beef. The macros are cool as well.

The camera view was changed not too long ago.  I don't know when you quit but if it was before then, it's different and honestly a pain in the ass.  I was used to right clicking my mouse and scrolling to change views.  You can still do that but now if you take the mouse pointer to the side of the screen, it changes your view.  To me that was a pain because I mainly used keyboard to play and if I knocked my mouse by accident, wooosh, my screen went all nuts. No big deal though.

I quit FFXI this past month.  Not because of the controls (because honestly they're easy to get used to).  I quit because it got boring.  I had a level 36 whm, 23 blm, 15 thf (for farming), and some other jobs I tried out.  It just seemed like the same old thing every time I logged on.  Look for a party (which wasn't hard being a whm) or do some of the hard quests or go farming for gil.  The only thing that changed was a few added spells and a different place to level.  Seeing the same mobs over and over just with different names and maybe a few extra attacks, was boring.

If controls and the camera were your reason for qutting, I'd say try it out again.  If you don't get bored easily, you might enjoy the game for a long time.

Yep, just cancelled my subscription this morning.  I'm beta testing two games and won't have time to play boring FFXI.  It was fun for a short while then it turned into a chore and then a bore.

Yeah I'm sorry you're just finding that out and you just got the game.  You'll find that after lvl 10 you really need to start grouping in order to gain xp.  In FFXI, the higher lvl you become, the harder it becomes to defeat that "easy prey" mob when playing solo.  Eventually you won't even be able to fight a "not worthwhile" (no xp) mob and live to talk about it.

The game is great just not my style.  And you're right, it's MUCH better when you experience a new game with an open mind.

    Have fun. image

Man I've been gone for a while, but I have to say in my opinion those that complain about FFXI being boring when leveling are being unfair and pessimistic. ALL games suffer from the leveling treadmill. That's just the way it goes. And those who expect to wowed and pampered when playing FFXI for a month or less, get real. There are no happy go lucky babysitters out there that are gonna hold your hand and walk you through the game. This includes the cheap-azzes that play for the free month then cancel and believe that any opinion from them WOULD actually matter. That's like watching a movie 1/4 of the way through and trying to give a credible review. NOT!

What you should expect realistically is a challenge, something that is different than standard "American" mmorpgs. And go in with an open mind. I mean anyone here can tell the difference between a rpg done by American devs and one done by Japanese ones. Standard stuff here. It's like a eating foods cooked by your mom and food cooked by your friend's mom. Even if your friend's mom food taste better, you don't wanna let your friend know that his mom has "showed up" yours.....

And hell it's all food anyway, so it's all just a matter of OPINION. So f--- what ya heard. Grab a fork and enjoy the freakin movie.

If you pay 50 bucks for a game and they give you a free month's worth of play, it had better be fun for that month. Why would you start paying monthly fees in the hopes that it would get good? Cancelling after a month isn't being a cheap-azz, as you so intelligently stated, it's being smart. As for the fork/movie metaphor: t's like watching 1/4 of a BAD movie after paying and learning that the movie theater is going to charge you to see the rest. No. I don't think so. Also, how is it RADICALLY different from American MMORPGs. Do tell, please. Seems like a cookie cutter EQ clone to me...

I started to have technical difficulties after 1 of the patches..I havn't bothered to return to the game yet.

I originally started a dark knight/warrior which was lots of fun, and I lvled him up to level 54. Finding parties continued to be very difficult. So I started again and created a Bard/White Mage. He's up to level 27. Melee jobs are always much more common than the healers and the bards so if you go as a warrior type job you will always have a tough time to find a party. When I switched over to being a bard I have absalutely no wait time waiting for parties. In fact I was usually in parties and still recieving invites from desprate people hoping I would join their party instead. It's not like you have to start a new character or anything to start a new job.. as anyone who has played FFXI will know.

The part that really bothered me.. and the reason I havn't returned yet is the fact I have to go through the same old process all over again.. Sure this time I can do different spells and have a different aspect of gameplay.. but you go through the same boring/tiresome mobs, and the same boring and tiresome leveling areas, as everyone was always flocking to just the main areas. I havn't cancelled my account yet but only because I found a good group of people and formed a Linkshell(guild) with them.

LOL this game is boring from the first 10-25 lvls???

lvl10- were better armour and better looking weapons

lvl20- get to go on a chocobo(quest) ...and go to qufium to fight giants

lvl25- Get to go on a airship to go to kazham....extremely good place to get exp and fast partying

lvl30+ - wearing better armour..more JP people are recognizing you...more they like you...the more stuff they will give to you...

also if you cant find any parties then your a total loser...i found 10 parties in one day when i was lvl 10... you guys are just to F*@#&ing lazy to search for a party..
