duel etiquette

PrecursorPrecursor Member UncommonPosts: 150

So, I resub to WoW yesterday out of boredom. Never played for longer than a month or two so I really can't say I know what is going on at any given point of time in this game. I log on, poke around with a quest or two and call it a day. Don't really care about battlegrounds, loot, instances, nor the games pvp system. WoW's a casual thing for me. Something to pass time.

Anyway, I reroll a n00b elf druid and set about my business of wasting a few hours. An hour or so passes before I start getting these duel requests from seemmingly the entire hive of elf-land. After the eighth or ninth one I give up and accept. A little bit into it the other guy runs off. I laugh and mosey off. To my misfortune, the same dude spots me again and pulls out another duel. *sigh*. So off we go again, except this time he starts yapping halfway through about how I'm a puss becuase I'm healing myself, and I'm a bad player... yadda yadda. Whatever. I defeat the guy and run off to continue my excursion into the log of quests I have.

So, before I go any further into WoW, what is standard etiquette for these goofy duels that everyone is so keen on throwing at me? Am I naughty for healing in a duel? And what puprose do these duels in WoW have other than whats appears to be just another form of weiner wavings and pissing contests?

the etiquette is that it is considered rude to /duel somebody without even a small introduction like "hi! wanna duel?" before. same as for party invitation.

The good news is you must have hit a particularly bas streaks because in my experience i do get challenged sometimes, especially in lowbie areas, but after a decline or two, the guy just wander off.

There is an auto-decline mod somewhere by the way

Duels are meant to increase class skill, increase survival rates, and increase confidence in active combat. However, it can go the other way too depending on how you go about it. I always challenged people who had a chance to win against me because I knew it would make me better at PvP. And yeah, many turned me down. I rack this up to the fact there are quite a few bad winners running around scaring people away from this aspect of the game. I'm not saying you should accept fights you cannot win, but atleast think it over before you tag decline.

Dueling to me is just for fun.  I've had my 52 rogue duel a 60 tier 2 warrior before.  I knew full well that I was gonna get creamed but I had fun whittling him down to about 70% health.  image

If they spam duel requests that is actually a reportable offense.  Usually though I would just put them on ignore if they wouldn't stop when I asked.
