Anyone have any ideas?

I just recently moved into my new apartment and ordered cable internet.  Now, when I'm on the internet everything is all fine and dandy.  Then when I go to download torrents using say, Azuerus or Bitlord, my internet connection always goes bad after a few minutes and I have to restart my pc to get it back to normal.

SO... anyone know what the heck is going on?

Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.

I'm assuming Torrents worked before you moved?  When you moved, did you change location forcing you to change cable companies?  Also, is it just with Torrents?  Have you tried going to download other large files outside of Torrents?  If not, go download the AO Free client or something thats a couple hundred megs and see if that works for you.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

I just tested it and even with normal large files my modem seems to be freezing up.  I unplugged my modem when it happened and then plugged it back in and then it ran fine again.  What can I do to prevent this from happening?  The modem itself is literally 2 days old.

Did you buy the modem or are you leasing it from your cable company?  If you bought it, check the vendor site for a firmware upgrade on it.  If you're leasing it, contact your cable company, explain your problem and see if they will check the firmware/replace it for you.

The modem came with the service.  I've called them and the techs are stumped.  I'm thinking either a faulty modem or limited bandwith (which is bullshit).
