Well, I am really excited about it. But there IS another nautical/pirate MMO you know. It's called Voyage Century... They are actually starting their open beta on Friday. Check out www.voyagecenturyonline.com/beta
Oh, wow. I've never heard of that before (and i'm a pretty big mmoer), but it looks cool! Thanks for that tip. Looking forward to two (count em, 2) pirate mmos now!
Yeah I'm psyched. I have allways loved Pirate games, they are just so appealing. I mean come on what is more entertaining; running through dungeons over and over, or sailing the sea plundering citys/towns and selling the loot illegally to other pirates or towns? It's a total no brainer.
I must admit, the idea of captaining a pirate ship sounds very appealing. The question is, will the game have any depth or is it just a one-trick pony with a gimmick that has no staying power? Unless it can offer some real substance a pirate can sink his brittle teeth in, I suspect the ship will go down to Davy Jones' locker.
Just to say i have just finished the `ALPHA STAGE` of VoyageCentury Online. It would take me over 20 pages on here to even scratch the surface of what you can do in this game,It truly is an amazing game. Closed Beta starts on Friday Dec 22nd 12pm (EST) , So head on over to www.voyagecenturyonline.com/beta/ and register for the beta.
No I am not excited about Pirates of the Burning Vaporeware that has been in development since what 86?.....

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

nah, think I saw it first time 2001, but I doubt it will be launched ever, has taken to long.
I have also beta tested Voyager Century for 2 weeks, and yes its a really nice game. And it will be released this friday with an open beta with no wipes after beta period.
Vaporware would mean there is no product. PotBS has made -many- appearances at gaming conventions, won quite a few awards, and the response has been positive by anyone who got to play it at these events. The -many- gameplay videos have also looked very nice, and further prove that this product does in fact exist.
In case nobody noticed, it is one of the few games that actually got better over time due to long development times. They did a complete overhaul of their graphics engine and provided many before and after shots to show what they were doing. There is really nothing that would show that they aren't putting effort into their product. If anything, they are putting twice as much effort into their game as most companies out there right now.
A lot of MMORPGs with "vehicles" ex. AutoAssault seem to put the player in a position where all of the action is happening in the "vehicles" and does not include a real system for combating others while walking around as a person. As I do like pirates it is something I might try but am not really interested in.

Just for that, i'm going to apply extra hard for beta and make characters on every ocean with that name. I can even see some guild franchises... Yeah.
