Doing two polls out of curiousity, this is my first one. What do you prefer for movement in an MMORPG? This is a heated debate among the people I know, and I'm just wondering what the community thinks as a whole. I, personally, am in favor of the point and click approach, but I know there are many people out there who love WASD.

WASD easily
However, option four is almost a reality, they've already had multiple sucessfull tests in which subjects were able to manipulate a cursor on a computer through a device designed to pick up brain wave patterns.
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

But as player I prefer WASD
Guild Wars 2 is my religion
I prefer WASD.
feels more immersive.
But I feel both options should be available.
I use the Fang Gamepad, so I guess I vote for WASD
course, I got to wear my special shirt for those WASD games, provided by Jinx.com. It helps me know where to go
your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
So many topics have passed on about this.
*yawn*
If you're going to be "hardcore" about WASD, why not just insist that all MMORPG have an option for a Dual Shock or XBox 360 controller? Come to think of it, that might be a wise move. Most people "get" console controlers. This might be a good way to further grow the genre.
WASD was chosen cause it is shaped like the arrow keys and allows for the most buttons to be near the fingers to make it easier. ESDF is also used by some people but WASD is the famous setup. The arrow keys only get shift and control, and those are a stretch, WASD has pretty much the whole left side of the keyboard worth of keys, plus your hand it kept close to the letters to make little burst of typing easier.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
WASD for me.
Point and click drives me nuts... Im playing NWN2 at the moment and my biggest gripe would be charcter movement. WASD doesnt really work as its too jerky and innacurate and left clicking to move invariably means you will miss clicking a target in combat and run right by it costing valuable seconds and often the battle...
FPS controls work best I think.

may not impact the gameplay for YOU but it would for someone like me. I
have tried point and click games and I won't play them. Perhaps for
some amazing game I could get over it but for the most part I won't
even bother.
It is too frustrating a control scheme for me, too limiting, less
responsive, less immersive etc. Its significant enough of difference to
me I tend to shy away from even trying pnc MMORPGs unless they get rave
reviews (other genres it works a bit better).
WASD for 1st person games and point and click for top-down and/or isometric games.
I'm sure I've answered this before many times before. This forum is a turgid recylcing bin of rehashed and repeated topics. Nature of the beast.
I have this theory that your movement preference is based on what games
you've played in the past. Before i got into MMOs, i played RTS games
almost exclusively and so point and click has always been my movement
interface of choice. But i think that people who have more of a FPS or
console background would choose WASD.
You could point and click in the first Wolfenstein? Never knew that...
