My theory is this. They cleaned up the bots a bit, then launched a free 14-day trial for a bit, this is right after c5 came out, then they are coming out with interlude and I have a feeling the bots will be back the way it was in a few months. D

I think Cryomatrix's assessment is accurate. They seem to be enforcing the TOS right now. I can't figure out if NCsoft is just an unethical company or they just had a lapse in judgement in allowing botting for so long. I guess time will tell.

What a wonderful, well writen and insightful post. No L2 is still the only MMO with bots. No other game has them. You should really try one of the pure games listed on the left there. Any one of them is clean, wholesome and bot free.
I know this may be a shock after all you did say you played L2 from OPEN BETA UNTIL 2 MONTHS AGO so you might not be aware of the current state of all the other wonderful games out there.

Did you play eq1? With all the xp needed for levels and AA, all the flagging needed to be able to do certain raidzones? I dare to say that eq1 has more grind then l2.

But people who don't really understand the game only see the grind.

I can't say I know of any other game that allows you to do that. Maybe Eve.
Now, unfotunatley, the only way to get higher in level is an ever increasing grind. That is where you get many people hating the game. Also the economy is brutal. Can't stand the economy though I know of players who love it because they like the wheeling and dealing.
As far as the bots? Once again, all major, popular games have bots. And what is more, they have enough to satisfy their populations (of players who buy online currency). So games like WoW for instance have mahy more bots than L2 (NA) will ever have. More servers, more people, more bots.
L2 doesn't have instances, so you see them. The good news (and anyone who actually plays can attest to this) the servers have been having major bot bans. Server populations have dropped significantly because the bots are being wiped out as soon as they are found. Of course, the bad thing about this is that the bot companies keep tryhing to make new higher lvl bots so they can farm in the higher lvl areas. Because of this there is an inundation of bots in the starter towns. And that won't look good to new players.

I loved the economy, it was a good challenge, but i beat it and thus no challenge left. The grind wasn't worth the benefit to me. Thus I quit L2 mainly because there was nothing left in the game for me to accomplish or nothing left worth accomplishing.
EVE is a more robust game than L2 in almost every facet, the problem with EVE that I'm facing now that I'm playing it, is that it is kind of boring and slow, then again i'm not in a corporation and i haven't been playing much. I assume in a few months when I get into EVE i'll like it and get over the fact that it is slow.

This game is mostly made for korean peple. You have to remember this when you play it. If you want a game that was made for NA/euro people go play wow.

Your an L2 Fan boi and I understand where your coming from, but it appears I have vastly more gaming experience than you do obviously, and find its just easier to go play a game that is one ALOT more fun, and has an even playing field. So, no you wont be seeing me back in game, and even if I did come back I doupt you would be able to go to the same spots I do anyway.

Your right i do love the game. I have been playing it from open beta, but i also played other games. You probably have more experiance, but its not nice to call some game crap. I do agree that ncsoft is not doing a good job. But i dont think that bots and farmers are the problem, they are there because of the problem that is alredy there.

I am not so sure L2 is the "true" premium grindfest, but it seems to be viewed as one. When I first started researching this game, i kept hearing the same thing over and over again. Grind + bots.
You ask about WoW, it's shitty end-game, shitty community, and easier than masturbating.
I haven't played enough games to say that L2 has the worst grind ever or is close to a horrible grind. But I will say that the game contains 2 grinds in one.
Grind for leveling and a grind for money making.
Even though most people circumvent the second grind, the economy is a grind in and of itself and the leveling is a grind. I managed to do both in a 5 month period, but i played roughly 40 hours a week if not more. I'm not sure how one would define the grind, but then again, when I look at it, i wasn't even 25% of the way to lvl 78 and I was lvl 70.
So how is L2 a premium grind fest?

You'd need to reach a level of 61+ and be able to afford top A grade in Lineage 2, imo to not be considered a punching bag. (Yes I know Torak took out some B graders with his C grade characer (YAWN LOL)).
I know in WoW by lvl 55 with my green/blue items I was taking on level 60's. I was a gank-master hunter specced for archery, so basically, if i got a pre-emptive strike most classes were dead, except for the epicced-out characters. That only took me like 150-200 hours or so.
EVE may take me several months to not be a punching bag, but then again, i don't even need to play to achieve that .
Disclaimer: we can argue night and day over when we can decide when a character has reached a stage of import or that they can actually do something and not be a bitch. I just put it at A grade becaues of the PvP bonus and the fact that sieges seem to be filled with a huge proportion of 61+ characters.
Other games differ on how long it takes to be of some import, but I'd say that Lineage 2 may take a long time in reference to other games. Of course it is a function of how old the game is as well.

I'm currently playing a diablo 2 mod on single player and EVE (somewhat). I'm not coming back to Lineage 2. I can't see myself playing the game it has nothing left for me to do. I didn't leave the game because I hated it or I got fed up with the bots or this or that, I left the game because I accomplished my goals and the only goals left to me were.
1. hit lvl 75 and go further 2. try to do something globally and focus on the shit Sovrath was talking about
and the first goal wasn't worth it to me, i needed roughly 250-350 hours perhaps to hit lvl 75 and then what? I go down to lvl 40 and do it all over again with an archer? I like the idea of subclassing, but I wasn't having fun leveling.
and the second goal, it wasn't worth it to me. I don't enjoy politicking a world where the people reached their station via illegitimate means. The politics in L2 aren't that robust to really be entertaining to me.
Also, I wasn't having fun anymore. Also, my video game testosterone is decreasing mightily, I'm just looking for other things to do rather than play video games I guess.
I'll make a bet with you Torak. If I come back to Lineage 2, I'll go on your Teon server and personally ebay you your Top A grade. When I mean come back, i mean to play, not to killl everyone i hate and then sell my gear to get adena to sell on ebay, which I may do lol.

I hate to say this but why not transfer your funds from one server to another? Its gonna cost you half but you can get one of those nasty, evil currency sites to do it. I've known of a few people who have done it. The bad part, like I said is it cost you half. Move 100 million and you get 50 million on the new server. Thats all you really need for a start though.

Yeah I'm a fanboi its cool lol. Everyone has a favorite game, this one is mine. I never suger coat it though. Don't misunderstand, I agree there are alot of other excellent games. I'm an MMO fanboi actually. I've tried most of them and lot have many good things, most do things better then L2 in different ways.
Here, I just enjoy the freedom of action, the awsome world and my clannies. At the end of the day, thats what counts in my eyes. WoW might be a better game all around but have you ever really had to deal with that community??? Lord have mercy....

The thing is, gaining money in Lineage 2 is received the same way by gaining XP. However this doesn't make the grind worse in any way. Grinding is slaying mobs, if its for gaining XP or for gaining money, you will have to kill mobs. This is the same in just about every MMORPG out there. Sure it might take VERY long in L2 to reach high levels, longer then in other games. But once you reach that high level in other games...what is there to do? You can do the same raids over & over again...the same (often pointless) pvp...OR you can create a new character, doing it all over again. This is why the grind is simply the same as in other MMO's.

As far as not playing L2, well, if you are not having fun, you are not having fun. No reason to put yourself through all the work to end up in a place where you don't want to be.

I'll answer your question.
I am not so sure L2 is the "true" premium grindfest, but it seems to be viewed as one. When I first started researching this game, i kept hearing the same thing over and over again. Grind + bots.
You ask about WoW, it's shitty end-game, shitty community, and easier than masturbating.
I haven't played enough games to say that L2 has the worst grind ever or is close to a horrible grind. But I will say that the game contains 2 grinds in one.
Grind for leveling and a grind for money making.
Even though most people circumvent the second grind, the economy is a grind in and of itself and the leveling is a grind. I managed to do both in a 5 month period, but i played roughly 40 hours a week if not more. I'm not sure how one would define the grind, but then again, when I look at it, i wasn't even 25% of the way to lvl 78 and I was lvl 70.
So how is L2 a premium grind fest?

How is it worse than other MMORPG's?
- Well, I think gear is rather important in Lineage 2, so having money is paramount, which emphasizes the monetary grind.
I'd think for someone playing Lineage 2 legitimately that the time it would take to achieve a certain status of some import, let's say the ability to not be a punching bag in global PvP, may take longer than most games. You'd need to reach a level of 61+ and be able to afford top A grade in Lineage 2, imo to not be considered a punching bag. (Yes I know Torak took out some B graders with his C grade characer (YAWN LOL)).
I know in WoW by lvl 55 with my green/blue items I was taking on level 60's. I was a gank-master hunter specced for archery, so basically, if i got a pre-emptive strike most classes were dead, except for the epicced-out characters. That only took me like 150-200 hours or so.
EVE may take me several months to not be a punching bag, but then again, i don't even need to play to achieve that
Disclaimer: we can argue night and day over when we can decide when a character has reached a stage of import or that they can actually do something and not be a bitch. I just put it at A grade becaues of the PvP bonus and the fact that sieges seem to be filled with a huge proportion of 61+ characters.
Other games differ on how long it takes to be of some import, but I'd say that Lineage 2 may take a long time in reference to other games. Of course it is a function of how old the game is as well.

I hate to say this but why not transfer your funds from one server to another? Its gonna cost you half but you can get one of those nasty, evil currency sites to do it. I've known of a few people who have done it. The bad part, like I said is it cost you half. Move 100 million and you get 50 million on the new server. Thats all you really need for a start though.

Yeah I'm a fanboi its cool lol. Everyone has a favorite game, this one is mine. I never suger coat it though. Don't misunderstand, I agree there are alot of other excellent games. I'm an MMO fanboi actually. I've tried most of them and lot have many good things, most do things better then L2 in different ways.
Here, I just enjoy the freedom of action, the awsome world and my clannies. At the end of the day, thats what counts in my eyes. WoW might be a better game all around but have you ever really had to deal with that community??? Lord have mercy....

The thing is, gaining money in Lineage 2 is received the same way by gaining XP. However this doesn't make the grind worse in any way. Grinding is slaying mobs, if its for gaining XP or for gaining money, you will have to kill mobs. This is the same in just about every MMORPG out there. Sure it might take VERY long in L2 to reach high levels, longer then in other games. But once you reach that high level in other games...what is there to do? You can do the same raids over & over again...the same (often pointless) pvp...OR you can create a new character, doing it all over again. This is why the grind is simply the same as in other MMO's.
Nah... I try to stay away from places like that.
As far as not playing L2, well, if you are not having fun, you are not having fun. No reason to put yourself through all the work to end up in a place where you don't want to be.
