i used to play DAOC when it first came out, and I just saw and bought the 5th anniversary edition for 20 bucks. It comes with all the expansions so I figured that'd be a good way for me to jump right back in with everything. I know to play on a classic server, but my question is about the two classes I used to play. I never got them to 50, but hunter and skald were really good at pvp - great quick damage and hit and run tactics. Tank classes used to be little fun to play at RvR because they had no ranged damage and would have to sit outside keeps and do nothing while waiting for the gates to be knocked down. Now, this was years ago.
So I'm wondering, does RvR still go with the ranged classes having the most fun, and the melee having to sit around and wait a lot? And are the hunter and skald of midgard still really great? Those are the classes I plan on remaking, though of course I'll try the new mauler as well.

Hm any midgard class that is really good at pvp, or are they all pretty balanced now? When the game first came out there were definate under-and-over powered classes, but by this point they might all be good choices. I'm not one to play a class only because it's powerful, but if one that I'm already interested in is already good, then I might check that out.
Thanks for any info. I just want to know a little of what I'm getting into since I haven't tested the waters in 3-4 years. (Last time I played was with Shrouded Isles)
live life, rock hard.
In the early BG's which are centered around keep taking/defending it seems tanks have less fun... but in CV when 8 mans and open field combat prevail then the tanks seem to come into their own. Sure, its still a ranged caster's game, but some melee seem to do quite well and have fun (just dont expect to solo much)
