SWG my fav mmorpg so far

After playing SWG for several years. I can honestly say that it was my favorite mmorpg I ever played. Now I am not claiming anything here other then that. I have played multi on line games ever since the early 90's. I paid for subs. for several years at a time for many games. I have also beta tested many.

Any way. If you are new to SWG. You may enjoy the game as you would not know the difference. After having so much fun with it myself. I do recommend that any whom has not, do try it at least.

Of coarse, that would be like stabbing your fellow gamer in the back in favor of greed and unethical business..but hey, you might like it..

    Just my opinion.

    Several years?

how can you say you've played for several years and then say it's your favorite game without delineating between the different versions. PreCU, CU, and NGE are completely separate games. It's like saying I've played UO, EQ, and WoW and it's my favorite game. It just doesn't make sense.
  • Lai'AhnaLai'Ahna Member Posts: 126
Simply because I enjoyed all the expansions that increased the fun for me. Space was the best for me. The added yacht and speeder for preorder were very nice too. I realize that many are angry about the jedi's being nerfed. It was unavoidable because of Lucas making such a stink over that being a class at all.  You should be happy for the time you did get to do it. It will not come back. End of story. Things change and we must move on.

I loved all the fluff, 3 size houses (especial the buy and drop method of building them). Guild halls, even malls (player made of course). I had a wonderful time decorating. It was great to have so much storage space for all the stuff I wanted.

More aspects I enjoyed was the Player built cities, (Including town halls, fuel stations, med center, and even a bank. Not to mention trainers to be placed in cities by the players).  Low lag, Fantasic 2D graphics. Lots of great characters to choose from to play (My fav was a wookie). Lots of quests even if they were repetitive (Even for noncombat classes). The auction system and player owned shops! Geeze, they did so many things right from my view point. I could go on but, I think that is enough.

Being unhappy is sad. That is not my problem. Why should what I like bother any one? I have not flamed any for what I disagreed with.

I'm glad you're happy with SWG but I wouldn't get too comfy with it. With the dwindling population I wouldn't be surprised if SOE pulls up SWG's tents and cuts their loses. It's a dying game and the prognosis for it is grim.

That's fine by me. I already moved on. Besides, I'm sure they have made their money as well for it by now. ;)

if you like the NGE that's fine. That's your opinion. But it doesn't make sense to say swg is your favorite game with the premise that you've played it for several years. There are 3 completely different games over that period of time. They have huge differences. They can't all be your favorite, especially with the mmorpg experience that you have. Are you promoting the NGE or the CU or preCU?
  • Wildcat84Wildcat84 Member Posts: 2,304

SWG WAS my favorite game, and the best MMO ever made. Up until 11/15/05 that is. They strung me a long for another 10 months with broken promise after broken promise before I finally gave up.

The NGE is a total POS. Hardly anything works right, they are still "fixing by nerfing", and expertise is a complete joke, not at all a valid replacement for the old skill system.

Add to this the fact that they've not added one iota of content to the game for CL90 players since the one off Restuss debacle, nor have they fixed any of the other broken content (DWB, Warren, Geo Caves, Fort Tusken) to make them at all enjoyable again.

Simply put, there is a very good reason why SWG is the most hated MMO out there by former players, has won almost all of the "MMOWTF" awards, and is very unlikely to emerge from early 2007 alive. Betrayal. SOE and the dev team have time and time again stabbed in the back everyone who has ever been a customer. And they will continue to do so.

    I can only agree...

SWG was my true mmorpg-love when I would harvest my crops in the deserts of tatooine without seeing a lightsaber around every corner!

My naive little mind still hopes that SOE will allow us the former joy we had...but that is only a fool's hope

annxii , I know the feeling. Once you've played SWG, you begin to expect a lot from a mmorpg. That is why I have spent the past year going from beta to beta to beta... Still looking for that game! If anyone knows of one along the same caliber as SWG. SPILL IT!

Think how it will effect others after how it has effected so many all ready. If they try it that is. ;) Only thing is, they can not try the old one that was so much fun.

This is what I was confused about,

"I do recommend that any whom has not, do try it at least."

This is in present tense. You must not know what they've done to the game you left. Basically it doesn't exist anymore. It's a completely different game and that's not exaggerating.
  • Lai'AhnaLai'Ahna Member Posts: 126
No I guess I do not know what they did to SWG since I left. I was only hoping that with enough people trying it, and wanting the same things as the rest of us. Guess to much may have changed for that now.

Oh well, :sigh: on with looking for that game. It just has to be out there some where. Star Trek Maybe? I haven't looked at that one yet. Think I'll take a peek at it now.

Lol yes... do not listen to the majority of players that play it... listen to the small amount that do.

Hell, in fact let the product speak for itself:

OH WAIT WE CAN!!!!!!!  THANK YOU MMORPG MMO AWARDS OF 2006!!!!!!!

Let's have a look shall we????

(now then, these were taken from more MMO gamers then SWG has people playing right now... so yeah um....)

    LEAST FUN:

    STAR WARS GALAXIES

Star Wars has no trouble beating out the other games nominated in this field taking 37% of the votes when compared to Dark and Light (16%) and RF Online (11%). Obviously our voters are still a tad bit upset over the giant overhaul of the combat and class system last year. It is more fun than picking the fleas off a Wookie or potty-training an Ewok? Who knows, but I’m not in hurry to experience any of the three anytime soon.

    MOST DESOLATE:

    STAR WARS GALAXIES

Once again, the majority spoke and gave SWG another dubious award gaining 51% of the votes for this category. Coming in at second place was Dark and Light (23%) followed by Dark Age of Camelot (9%) at a distant third. In my introduction to the voting last week I suggested giving preference to game whose population had dropped rapidly rather than a game that never had the big numbers so I’m not too surprised at this outcome. Maybe by this time next year, everyone will be over it, or playing a new Star Wars game.

WORST USE OF A POPULAR IP OR LICENSE:

    STAR WARS GALAXIES

Seeing a trend here? With 63% of the votes, Star Wars beat out Dungeons and Dragons Online (37%) and The Matrix Online (4%) for the worst of the MMOG conversions. I’m pretty sure that no permanent damage was done to the franchise, but for most of the voters SWG betrayed the original concept of the movie, much like the newest Trilogy did. DDO has fallen pretty far from last year when it won “Most Anticipated for 2006”. Shows how much you can trust award votes.

    MOST SHAMELESS DEVELOPER:

    SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT

With a staggering 77% of the votes SOE won in a blowout and the next closest was Dark and Light’s very own NP Cube (16%) and Turbine (3%). What can you say? When the gibbering hordes have spoken all you can do it stand aside and watch them play ‘Pin the Punk Card’. Keep your chin up Sony, at least the PS3 works great right?

MOST LIKELY TO BE CANCELLED IN 2007:

    STAR WARS GALAXIES

Star Wars wins its fourth award tonight in a close fought battle of bargain-bin hopefuls taking 29% of the votes edging out it’s faithful runner up Dark and Light (17%) and Archlord (15%). The voters continued to vent their rage on their favorite meat puppet and SWG beat out other games on the chopping block with less than a tenth of their subscribers. I can only hope that by the time next year’s awards roll around we won’t have to look at any of the games that received votes here.

    BIGGEST STINKER:

    STAR WARS GALAXIES

For some reason space opera games seem to win all the awards, good or bad here. Once again, Star Wars crapped its way past the competition gaining 40% of the overall votes. In a close second Dark and Light claimed 29% followed by Dungeons and Dragons Online (10%). This year the old school Pre-CU/NGE gangstas came out in ‘force’ and sent a message. Are they just Rebel scum without a cause? Will something good ever come of this franchise? Will I ever stop causing trouble by provoking die-hard fans? Difficult to answer, these questions are...uncertain the future is.

I loved it. SWG was my favorite game of all time.

That's why I am so bitter, and frankly, now WANT to see the thing fail miserably and everyone who had any part in the NGE relegated to working at McDonalds.

    Why?

    Revenge.

I really REALLY hate and despise John Smedley and the whole bunch.

I want them to be the poster children for what never to do with a game.

So far, I think that is happening. Every other MMO developer out there is being quick to claim that they will NEVER "do a NGE". And they have to make these statements, because players are ASKING them that question.

I have 21 days free on multiple accounts. I played for 4 hours this evening. Even free it's overpriced.

Hell, they could make the game FREE and I doubt they get 100K players again...

    Why?

    THE NGE SUCKS.

It's a pathetic design, piss poorly executed. It's a crap game that is not fun.

Whats ironic here, is that everything Lai'Ahna liked before she quit the game a year ago was all part of the original game and vision, aka Pre-CU game.

All that she liked is now things that Helios and his ilk is looking to get rid off heh.

She is right however, about having people try SWG, then they'll see how far it has fallen (If we as Exile-SWG'ers inform them of what the game used to be), putting "Happy go Lucky Kiwi" Obraik to shame

I like Lai'anhi is still searching for a game that provides us with what we had in SWG, and I like Lai'Anhi comes up empty...still searching. Just like Bissrok, just like wildcat, just like about everyone else here "Happy Go Lucky Kiwi" Obraik not counted).

When will we find a game that offers us what SWG had? Hell if I know, because everyone and their momma of developers seem to want to clone WoW and make shallow "whack whack whack-amole combat wombat games".

I played SWG since beta and loved it. It was such an innovative and complex game. You never got bored because there was so much to do. I'd recommened it to anybody who hasn't played it. But pre-NGE subscribers won't find much left of the game they loved.

If thats all you have then you are getting desperate man... you need some new ideas.

(YES, see there is the factor of a MMO being well..... SOMEWHAT FREAKING SUCCESSFUL to base your future and time within it)

See, I like to know that what Im getting into has promise, does well, has a large player base, has people that enjoy it on a large scale like I would, is not marked as a failure, is somthing that I think will be around a while and is worth my trouble learning with hopes of it not being ripped or changed from underneath me.

See Obriak sometimes a product needs to stand on it's own feet before people jump into it... it should be a DECENT product at least before you invest one dime into it.

All this does is show people exactly what the majority thinks of it... You do not go from 350k subs to maybe 10k by doing the right thing there smart guy..... you just don't.

People need to be educated on this BEFORE THEY GIVE THEM ONE DIME, not after.... after just helps SOE make a buck before it dies.... we need to NIP THE PEOPLE AS THE ENTER THE FRONT DOOR..

Thank goodness, it looks like we did well this year.... grats to all that spread the truth about this product... we may see the game fail even more this year if it lasts.
