Will Vangaurds kill EQ1?

I'm just curiose because I just restarted playing EQ1 again. I'm pretty fed up with WoW. Unfortunantly with EQ I have to start over from scratch but I don't mind if its just to kill some time until Vangaurds is released. Why I'm asking is because when I started playing EQ again I see that there are next to no newbies anymore. I'm on Emarr/Morrel-Thuel. Even with the server merges the newbie zones still seem barren. In the tutorial zone there are some players but I think some are either alts or old players like me returning, but now my warrior is lvl 15 and out of the tutorial. Not only were servers merged but some old zones were merged to. Anyways, I'm just posting this here because it seems that there are alot of old school eq1 players like myself who are interested in playing Vanguards. Not everyone but alot. I would also like to ask what are you playing while you wait for Vanguards? Still playing WoW? Or even EQ2? Or would you think about going back to EQ1 until this game comes out? When this game comes out, and if its as good as people say, do you think everyone will just drop EQ1 and move to Vanguards? I'm sure this topic has been braught up many times before.

It could take alot of people from eq1 only time will tell, but i think the people who play wow or eq2 will not be affected to bad in fact i think vanguard is going to help eq2 because people who buy the station pass can play both games and they are going to be different with different game styles. Eq2 is more casual and vanguard is going to be more hardcore. I will probably play both just depends on how much time i have. if i have like 30 mins i will log on eq2 and do a few quest or if i have a couple hours i will log on vanguard :)

I don't think anything could kill EQ1, for that will always be the basis for all other mmos, and I don't think I could ever leave eq1 even if I go and play other mmos... But vanguard looks awsome, but still wont leave EQ1...

Vanguard possess much more content then EQ1 or 2. It wouldn't surprise me if many start out on the Station Pass from EQ1 or 2, and then drop it just to play Vanguard.

I short, yes, I do believe Vanguard will "kill" EQ. It will be there for years to come, but Vanguard will decimate it's population. The only way EQ will ever increase in pop again will be to turn to a free game with pay for expansions, which very well could happen soon if SOE were looking at the big picture.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

EQ1 is dying on its own.  According to stats published by Massive Magazine, EQ has lost over half its subscribers in the last 1-2 years.  They are quickly headed in the direction to fall below 100,000 subscribers.  Personally I think all the 1st-gen MMOs will die out within the next 1-3 years (unless they completely re-design and modernize themselves).  Vanguard is likely to pull a lot of people from both EQ and EQ2.  It's similar in style and graphics to EQ2, but it seems to be offering a lot more depth.  I hope it turns out to be as good as all the claims they make.

    Hopefully.....

Maybe if it can wipe out EQ1 and 2  it can get a big enough player base to survive until WOW finally dies and its population spreads out to other MMOs.

EQ2 is not going to die, not all people like corpse runs and slow leveling, Eq2 and Vanguard are competely diff games if anything eq2 is more like wow then anything just a little more depth and more to do. I think alot of u have not played eq2 recently to see how different it is. Anyway vanguard may kill eq1 but i can and would bet it will not hurt eq2.

hmmm if I were to wager I'd bet $1,000 to a $1 that Vanguard will take 30% of EQ II players right off the bat. But then again one has to ignore the hype of Vanguard and play the ole wait and see ploy.

i would take that bet :) because i bet alot of people who play vanguard and some might get dissapointed will come to eq2. so it works both ways. Not to mention u have to have a dang awesome computer to play it so that will hurt it some cause not everyone has a highend gaming machine.

SOE doesn't make Vanguard and are not in charge of tweaking the ingame performance..

It's kinda hard to "kill" a MMORPG, look at AC1, with its 400-500 players on each given server a night during primetime, Turbine still claims they are making money and they want to keep that game going.  So with that in mind, lol, let's try not to ask the question "will such-and-such kill such-and-such".  It's very hard to kill a MMORPG, unless your definition of a "kill" means sub-100,000 subscribers.  But I never understand that anyway, because if people are having fun, and the company is willing to keep it going, then I don't see how anyone can consider a game "dead".  EQ1 has been slowly losing subscribers, but it's not dead nor do I think it'll die due to Vanguard.

As for Vanguard, give it time, the game performance has increased by a lot comparing from beta to beta.  Never know how well they can tweak the game by the time it goes to beta 5.  Plus stress test is during beta 5 anyway, that's when a flood of pre-order people will be joining the game, and it's the stage they'll determine how many players they want to have per server.
