I remember an ISD Member saying that it was in development. I'm not totally sure who ISD are, other than forum mods.... but they do know quite a bit of stuff about the game most players don't.

I played City of Heroes for a while which is a very interesting idea, but has its limits.  I was a little turned off by the lack of items you could acquire as you can in a fantasy world.  For me, I don't care if they keep coming out with fantasy MMOs, I just want them to be good.  When I think of new ideas, I think of new ideas to improve the already popular fantasy world.  How about you?

I wouldn't say that I'm tired of the Fantasy genre. As long as there is a Fantasy themed MMOG out there that I like I will play. I can say that I am ready for a good Sci-Fi MMOG to come along, though. I can only guess that "big time" developers are afraid to vest themselves heavily in a futuristic setting MMOG. Why? Who knows. It sure isn't for a lack of subscribers as the first company to pony up and make said game and distribute it world wide will give birth to the "WoW-killer" that so many people fret about on the various forums out there.

For me, a game that has the diversity of features and options for gameplay that Pre-CU and heck, even CU SWG had has my money. That said, I doubt an existing license project is going to be able to do it. Star Trek Online, while a great idea in spur of the moment thought, will most likely follow the road of SWG. The only way it would be a success is if they listen to Michael Okuda, and ONLY Mr. Okuda. But with what I've seen recently about Perpetual Entertainment and Gods and Heroes, STO might just end up vaporware. Stargate Worlds also deserves mention, but I haven't been keeping tabs on it too much. Maybe I'll start....now

The two existing licenses I think would have a good chance at being MMOGs if made by a company with the budget to see it all the way through are Firefly and Dune. Just make sure $ony or Micro$oft have nothing to do with them and at least two subscriptions are coming from my house and and 8-12 more from my gaming buddies.

Son of a... Last thing I read said nothing was in the works. Low and behold I go over to CCP's official website and read the press release and, while they do not say specifically what, they do point out that

"Conceputalization and early development has begun to bring White Wolf's World of Darlness, one of the world's strongest gaming properties, into the online world."

Go figure. While I'm not a fan of EVE, I certainly would bite on a WOD game.

Im not to happy with Final Fantasy 12. its a good game, dun get me wrong, but, i dont feel im playing a Final Fantasy...

I think they need to make a Final Fantasy that connects all the FF's. kind of like a KIngdom Hearts. but you jump to the other Final Fantasy worlds...and can pick one main charactor from each one to be in your party. perhaps run into Sora even! I love kingdom hearts, how they intertwined everything SO WELL. i would LOVE to see that in Final Fantasy.

imagin, Squall fighting along side Cecil,  Yuna and Locke.

I wouldnt mind seeing a Final Fantasy go "sci fi." if they do it right i suppose, but, i personally love the, "monster is ganna destry world, lets journey to rid of him / main charector has some kinda drama / love story," i personally dont mind that lol.

I'm thinking the same. Warhammer 40K would be awesome. Maybe not bored of fantasy genre but I'm sick of Elves after playing Dark Elf at EQ2 and N. Elf at WoW.

Well Relic are working on a MMORPG so you may get to see that Warhammer 40K MMORPG yet.

Relic being the company that developed the Dawn of War: 40k RTS.

For the other people wanting sci-fi game - Tabula Rasa is in development and should be out sometime next year. For those who care - lead designer is Richard Gariott - the guy behind Ultima Online, and the Ultima RPG's.

I've said it before and i'll say it again,

We need a top Sci Fi MMORPG ... i for one would love to see Shadowrun be that MMORPG.

Give it an M Rating (like conan has) and include alcohol and or drug refrences... there'll be pvp and gun play, katana play, cyberware street sams fighting adepts and shamen... i can see it all now.

Shotgun cyber arm when in a pinch, and for sheer coolness factor.

    My HARDCORE Story

I wouldnt say Im sick of it but I suppose i could honestly say that I am sick of poorly or halfassed attempts at them in hopes of cashing in on the market. Just for it to be fantasy doesnt mean these companies cant be a little more inventive than turning an elf into a night elf or things of that nature. I imagine it would be hard to come up with several completely new races but then again, in most of these games the money we pay doesnt seem to make it to customer service so it may as well be put to use in the originality dept of development. Personally Id love to see a game hit that had absolutely no humans elves goblins orcs dwarves or 'mildly insulting variations' of them. Coming up with something new wouldnt have to mean a deviation from the fantasy genre. Everyone knows the phrase cookie cutter when it comes to these games and we could all think of several games that seem like a few others with minor tweaks, but sadly, I think that nothing major will come over the market until people stop giving their money to the games that come off at best halfassed.

And God when people get a license to a known product, ffs would they please live up to the hype? wouldnt that be nice for a change too?

Tabula rasa ok its si fi but still alot of fantasy in it but not tipical orc elf dwarfs races.

I would like to have a mmoprg where NEANDERTHALS/CROMAGNON EARLY HUMANS raom the world and survive hunting saber tooth tigers or big mammoth strugle agains ice age and explore caves fight bears other tribes maybe that would be nice ?

    I'm a CCP fanboi...

If CCP made an mmorpg based on life in a nursing home...I'd give it a try.

Exciting news to hear they are making a new game.

  • SuitepeeSuitepee Member Posts: 921

Nah,I'm tired of the same old PvE grindfests and no real PvP that the fantasy genre brings though.

However,I'd like to see a zombie genre MMORPG do well and be fun. Like this one sounds; http://www.exanimusthegame.com/

    It'd be so good.

Whatever genre it is, it needs to be far removed from real life, or quests become chores!  As far as clicking and gameplay, there is very little difference between "Kill diseased rats in the forests and bring me 20 rat tails"   to   "pick up 10 piles of laundry and put them in the washing machine". It's because the task if far removed from reality that makes it possible for devs to sell you the former as a 'quest', and get you to pay to play it...

There's a lot of other genres I would enjoy:

    - horror (already mentioned here several times). How about the 'underworld' movies? Vampire and Werewolf factions etc.

    - sci-fi time travel (instead of space travel). You quest and fight by jumping around in time. Devs could come out with different adventure packs: like an ancient-sumerian pack, or a medieval-mongolian pack, or a world-war-2 pack, etc. You run around in time, have to blend in or the natives get restless, lots of different looks, technologies, gameplay etc.

    - espionage, james-bond type stuff. Current day, international spy, factions are kgb, cia, etc. (This genre would be really hard to pull off imo, but popularity of bond type movies is always high... a lot of people would like it i think).

Look a dead horse.....lets beat it...

Yes we are tired of THE SAME fantasy games being released over and over with different titles. I prefer sci fi these days because it is fresh compared to fantasy. The elf dwarf gnome fairy thing is way overdone. There is hardly 2 cents worth of difference from one fantasy MMO to the next. There is only so much you can do with the weaponry of the genre and you are stuck with magic for everything else.

Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.

Fantasy is fine, just perfectly fine with me. I cannot however, stand another game with the same exact characters, more slight variations on the same exact theme, with elves, orcs and goblins.

If someone were to offer a fantasy game without the same Tolkienish theme, and with "realistic" graphics, I am perfectly fine with it, even though I generally prefer science fiction. This is why I'm following Age of Conan, even though it is a low fantasy/mythos setting.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

I agree there are a lot and far too many fantasy based games out there.

They all seem alike in one form or another. When you look at the list you see it is dominated by fantasy, Sci fi and others are far down the list.

As a player of COH and COV it is sad to see that they are still the only MMORPG that covers Superheroes. But there is light with so far as I know there are 2 in the works.

I think what developers have to do is think beyond the cookie cutter and think of a new idea.

I'm bored with fantasy too. I really want to see a Battletech/Mechwarrior MMO.

Tabula Rasa is the most hyped up game I'm waiting for.

No, not tired at all of the fantasy genre.

However, am a little tired of genre-mixing (i.e., having sci-fi blended with fantasy or having jokes to modern pop-references in fantasy-themed games).

But I'll never tire of a well-designed fantasy MMORPG.

    I love fantasy games.

I like them because of the spell effects and cool magic stuff.  Most of the sci-fi games I've played kind of sucked because they were all about guns and boring stuff like that.  Not much spell effects you can do with weapons fire.  AO did pretty good with it, but that's because that was pretty much a sci-fi/fantasy game.

I'm not tiered of fantasy settings. However, I'm sick of shallow, generic copy-paste fantasy settings made up by a game companies soleley for selling their game.

The only fantasy games that spark my interest these days are games based on long-running, deep and well-established settings.Like Age of Conan and Warhammer Online. Where I know there's some meat on the bone and that things are the way they are for a reason (and not just because some Dev thought it was a good idea at the time and then perhaps made up an explenation later).

It's not impossible for me to get into fantasy games where the Developers thamselves have made the setting, but if they don't manage to impress me in some way fairly quickly I loose interest.

  • I'm not really tired of the fantasy games, but i would love to see something gritty. Like a western or post-apocalyptic. Maybe post-apocalyptic/mech, but the mechs rare and are trashed and you have to scavenge for parts. No lasers though, i like bullets and explosives. I like lasers just as much as i do elves. I want it to be dark, bloody, and lawless.

But if i cant have that, how about war wind online. Did anyone play that rts?

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

  • I understand there are games like anarchy online, but they just arent that interesting to me. I want something grittier like how fallout was, but i dont want to see FOOL. Fallen Earth might be able to do it.
  • xephonicsxephonics Member UncommonPosts: 672
lol funny thing is, they are going to make fallout online
