"Nick Parkinson, aka Glip the Gnome, Community Manager for Sigil Games Online, announced that Sigil expects to begin Beta 5 (otherwise known as open beta) in early January. This means that fans who picked up pre-order boxes to gain open beta access to Vanguard will likely find themselves in the game soon. It also means the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) covering the release of Vanguard information from beta will likely be lifted."

- but you need to subscribe to fileplanet to get access to it (although I think you can cancel your subscription after the first payment is made - make sure you get your download and beta key emailed to you first though, which is to be sent when open beta begins in January.)



Open Beta estimates say 4th January start date, this has been confirmed by SOE tech support phone service too.

Well its to be exspected with the world of warcraft expasion coming in less then 3 weeks.I cant see any wow players makeing the jump if they already enjoy it.

This is very exciting, although a guildie of mine has made numerous posts about how unfun Vanguard is (without breaking the NDA, of course ). But I don't really trust him that much haha. I wanna get a hands on feel for the game, so open beta is going to be fantastic.



Especially with my new 8800GTS. MMMMMM. Exciting.

They need to seriously rethink about having a open beta in January. February or maybe early March would be a better time frame IMHO.

I just think it's way too early for open beta. There is no way this will be 100% finished product on releas day. I think they just want to ship it out ASAP, take money and then fix it with patches.

I don't know... I think they are rushing it way too much.

You have no idea what you are talking about. A bad open beta will bring about a bigger challenge to over come once the real launch comes. No press is always better then bad press and a bad open beta will bring about a lot of bad press to overcome.

 Sounds like 99% of all MMORPG releases to me! Sounds to me like Vanguard will be EQ3 with a few little extras, but good luck to those who pre-ordered and I doubt you'll need a supercomputer to run Vanguard.

Really ? So can you compare something like DnL with it's craptacular release to WoW ?? How about WoW's release to EQ2's release ? Or what about Auto Assault or DnDO ? A bad release can hurt your numbers and move you from being a contender to just a niche MMO.

They still need some time to get it done. The game has come quite far since it first hit beta, but there is still stuff to do, still quite alot to polish and fix. Stuff like pvp is basically totally untested/nonexistent. The first beta pvp server launched 21 of December I believe. So it looks like you won't get any "real" pvp until sometime after the release. It will be kinda like Wow at release pvp wise.



And a open beta usually means that they have the final release client ready, with only minor changes being made to the game until release. With the focus on stress testing the servers.

i think it might be a case of "blinded by love to our own product" constatly talking about how it WILL BE rather than taking a hard look at what they actually got

Have you acually played the game? do you know what state the game is in? if you are not breaking the NDA you have no clue at all, you always have to be so godamn negative about everything. just wait and see, im not saying it will be great. Hay man I want this game to be big just as much as you want... If not even more. And I'm only passing judment on the videos and screen shots I've seen. And what I saw... It's far from "next big one."

First let me tell you what I don't like.

-Official website. It's crap. Lacks any usefull info. There is FAQ. But is that the best they can do? Check WoW website. Full of info on races, calsses, proffesions, lore and so on. And you don't have to read 50 pages of plain text to get the idea.
-Animation in every single video I've seen is rubbish. Not polished at all and full of gliches. So even if I get uber PC I will still suffer due the crap animation. And you wanna tell me they gonna fix all of those animations in 1 month? Please.
-The world looks... Bleeched? Is that the word? It lacks any kind of colors, it lacks life... I mean it's fircking fantasy game, throw in some colors for god's sake.
-Could be raid-fest.

And due the crapish website I can not say what else I don't like. I've seem some talk about big cities and stuff... Where are they? Give me SS! And please not the one in the desert, not impressed at all.

And now stuff that I do like.
-Devs. They are not some no-name losers like those newbs that made DnL. So that gives me hope that game will be good.
-Crafting. Ever since SWG I've been looking for this. Meaningfull crafting.
-Player housing. You can't have MMO without player housing.
-World loot and crafted items are suppose to be same when it comes to strenght. So I guess we could talk about player driven economy.
-Big world. I just hope it will not be empty.

And due the crapish website I can not say what else I do like.

Will they make it in 1 month time? No way. It will be bug colony and it will smash all the chanches of this game becoming big.

OMG player housing we all love to sit in a meaningless house in an Online game... I have been playing MMOs for 10+ years now and player housing is beyond meaningless.  If you are gonna waste time in some stupid house instead of leveling up, pvp or killing people I am not sure what you are paying for... if you want player housing lol go play the sims.

I wouldn't worry about the state of the game. Sigil devs are professionals they aren't Farlan or Codemasters. When the game is released in early to mid February it will be polished.

All you anti-vanbois will be playing this game within months of it's release. You can only hold out so long.

I agree. Unless you have nearly endless storage and can put up crafting tools there then it's pointless. I do like Guildhalls though. EQ1 has rather nice guildhalls these days.

So... Siting in online house is meaningless and it's waste of time for you. But PvPing for 7h, rading for 8h for some virtual items that will enlarge your e-penis is not waste of time?

If player housing is there why not exploiut it and have some fun. I enjoy RPing, player housing is great feature for me and I can't wait to set up a shop in mine. We are not the clones, we all have our own idea of fun.

I love to PvP too, I even love to riad a dungeon once or twice, but I hate to do all that 50x times so I could get a new item witch will make me "better". Sorry. For me, that's a waste of time.

Just my humble opinion.

How can a game not be ready for open BETA. It's still BETA. That means NOT RELEASED.

Cry if/when they release it full glitches, keyword RELEASE.
